He did not have to rely on ploys such as fireworks, facial grimaces or running all over the stage, and twisting his body. He used his incredible voice and he delivered. Hey! I was 11 yrs old in 65, and in the middle of "Beatle-mania" at the time; however, I also loved this more ballad-style pop music too... My much older sis hung at a bar off the Sunset Strip, and "the Brothers" (along with Little Richard!) frequently visited after performances nearby. This performance is done on the Andy Williams Show, the explanation is before the song. I'm 68 years old so I was 13 when this performance was done and I watched it on TV. I've been blown away by it every time I heard it (hits were played 10 to 15 times a day, and this was a hit). There's about ten tons on just hit music from the 50's, 60's, and 70's. Some of it is just fun (like, 'Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini'), but much of it is love songs and blues and so much more. Enjoy the adventure!

This is probably my favorite performance of all time. It is perfect. Bobby was what is called a countertenor. He had an unbelievable range spanning several octaves. Those high notes at the end were not falsetto. That was just the top of his range. Could you please react to " Pretty Woman"? I think it's by Roy Orbison. It always makes me feel happy and pretty. They pushed on and by the time they were finished the crowd wouldn't let them leave. Then some one yelled " that was really righteous, brother". I sang this to my wife at our wedding in 1983. She, however she said I murdered it. I'm guessing it's not a song for a baritone, she told me I was of better sticking to my drumming. I thought it was an appropriate song as I was in the Royal Marine Commandos, I had returned from the war for the Falkland Islands when I proposed, and now was shipping out to Sierra Leone two days later, so much for my attempt at being romantic. On the upside she liked me in my Dress Uniform, and having my comrades forming the sword tunnel helped. I must have done something write because we're still together. With 4 children and 7 grandchildren, we got busy on baby's when I was home. I served my Queen and Country for 34 years as a Royal Marine Commandos and Specialist Forces, and then 2 years in hospital, and she stuck by me even though I'm wheelchair bound now. We do actually have a song by Queen called "Your Me Best Friend", a very apt song as she has been my best friend since we were 16.

The husband is serving a long sentence and wrote this in a letter to his young wife who was having an affair with one of the prison guards and looking to leave the country with him. Makes the song so much more emotional in its meaning. With that context in mind listen to the song again, while he may be chains his love for her is not, hence unchained melody.
