HFY is a story/series that takes a “human element” in either humanity or an “other” (race/species or object) that exists in a “setting” (future or other world/universe) with varying levels of culture, technology, society and history that help show in some shape or form the potential good or bad for humanity’s race/culture. In These stories Humans are often referred to as Human, Humanity, Deathworlder, Hellwolder in reference to the human planet of origin , Earth. This planet is seen by most of the universe as a place where only death and chaos can survive.

Humans Are Space Orcs (HASO) or Humans Are (Fantasy Race) Are used as a guide when writing.
In these Stories we normally View humans like the other races view orcs in a Fantasy Novel. We (Humans) share the same characteristics and personalities as orcs. Humans are normally treated as the outsiders and barbarians. Humans tend to be underestimated as well in these stories. Unlike Humanity Feck Yea , these don't always put a positive spin on humans\humanity sometimes looking at the darker side of human and humanity from the perspective of aliens.

The appendix is the nursery and bomb shelter for the gut flora necessary for healthy digestion. The reason it is so difficult to treat an infected appendix is because keeping antibiotics out is its core function.

I never would have thought I'd make a routine of falling asleep to a man telling me sci-fi stories, but here I am😂. Makes for cooler dreams too. Love your work. Take all the time you need to get better without worrying about the channel. We will be here waiting. The voices are in a league of their own.

Same here. Used to fall asleep to the am or fm radio but that was a habit I set aside when my beloved late wife joined me as a bedmate as girlfriend almost 30 years ago and just never picked up again until I discovered ASN.

The human appendix may actually have a use after all. It's dead end pouch shape is ideal for storing a small sample of colon contents. That way if the rest of the colon is flushed empty from severe diarrhea, a small colony of normal bacteria remain to repopulate the colon after the disease is over.

The appendix isnt useless... its a storage unit for bacterial cultures. It stores the good bacteria. When harmful bacteria gets inside thats when it needs to come out.

Humans are peculiar little critters. On one hand we will absolutely wreck you if you push us too hard. But, we'll also go full crazy trying to save other people when we're moved to compassion.

@@geoshark12 Nah, that 'fleet of little ships' was commandeered by the UK navy. The volunteer bit is a myth. There might have been volunteers but most ships were commanded by Navy personnel. So based on the myth but not on the actual 'battle'.

Fun fact. The appendix, as well as most other once believed vestigial organs, does infact play an important role in the body. You can live without it, sure, but it still plays a role. If I remember correctly, ...no... I want to say bile storage, but I think that's the gall badder. Been a long while since I looked at it.

Gall bladder is indeed bile storage and production. The appendix acts as an ark for one's gut flora in the event that the intestines are flushed clean and need to be recolonised.

Give Mr. Rythm something to chew on. I really enjoyed both stories, and the concept that, even though individual humans may not be all that great, we will still do our best to hold ourselves to a higher standard as a group. Also, given the health issues you've had... I'm incredibly impressed at your work. The voice acting is still spot on, and I can't hear a trace of strain or discomfort in your voice. You're a pro, sir. Well done.

Both stories were amazing. But that second one was special. It dispensed several of the sillier tropes in HFY and let humanities true strength shine. Reminded me a lot of the Cajun Navy back when Houston was flooded by a hurricane. Get well, oh great narrator. You bring out the life in many of these stories.

There is a hypothesis that the appendix serves as a repository for the needed gut flora when the digestive system is afflicted with diseases such as cholera. Maybe . . . but it's still a stupid way to go about it, having an organ that stores up infection. Also, since people whose appendices have been removed are perfectly able to go about their lives, as a storage for gut flora the appendix again is useless.
