What a refreshing video, excellent. Cars these days are all about 0-60 and what they do on paper and a massive shift to auto. I loved ragging through gears in my first few cars and learning to properly have fun in cars with manual box’s, Rev matching and trying to heel and toe! 18 months ago I went into Audi and asked for a new manual s3. Couldn’t build one so I went for one of the last 2 in the country already built and never regretted it, love the car and love having manual fun! Even if I do lose in a drag race... I’ll be smiling!

I own an 8V S3 PFL, 3dr with MT, stock but mods planned, 20k on the clock, OG clutch in place. Hadn't considered needing to uprate the clutch with mods but now something to factor in. Top tip! Top vid too, keep up the good work fella.

I started driving an automatic for a year and a half, however I’ve just recently gone back to manual. Best decision I’ve ever made, it’s just a more enjoyable experience.

There's one advantage I've noticed with manual transmission, knowing which gear you're in. While I'm on track or cutting through traffic (yes call me stupid) I can feel the revs and the engine and with my left hand and slotting gear stick into gear, can subconsciously know which gear I'm in. Whith DSG, I have to say more attention on the gauge cluster to see which gear I'm in. While it is a split second, trust me this makes a huge difference when on track overtaking cars. For the engagement and fun, DSG will never EVER be better than manual transmission.

I feel that manual cars are easier to park because you can control the speed of the maneuver better with the clutch. And if you need to inch forward or backwards slightly you can just use the clutch, you don't need to keep pressing the accelerator then moving over to the break constantly

A lot comes down to how you drive the car too. Lot of people really do abuse a clutch and it won't last. But as far as I am aware, clutches would need replacing between 70,000-80,000 miles on most hot hatches.

I have an audi s3 in manual and stage 1 too and yes the stock clutch is a real shit i allready change under waranty mine at 9320miles and i just learn that the stock clutch came from golf gti... Solution sachs racing clutch Btw really great vid very rare vid where we see someone drive a manual S3 and say all the good things about manual !

Yes mate it's the 2017 model can't really compare it to a s3 but its ideal for my young family i know diesel is abit of a lot down for this kind of channel but it works for me day to day haha

I agree with you bro, I have a a45 and the automatic box is so smooth but I still miss flicking through the gears fully manually with a gear stick on my old polo👍 S3 is lovely btw

Nah man i love driving my skoda over the twinturbo v6 audi from my dad Just because the skoda has a manual Sure its not fast but the fun of ripping through the gears with my right hand is tons of more fun then pulling on a stupid paddle

I got an automatic just when I started to learn revmatching and heel toe or should I say toe toe..... Don't understand how you should do heel toe, that's awkward as hell. I also guess the pedals are to close in Mini.

Tom Ottaway personally i would suggest choosing which part of the world to go for first. As in German or Jap. They’re both as good as each other but offer their own character. A GT86 is more of a raw drivers car imo which is really cool, depends on you tho of course. Then there’s N/A vs Turbo...... I personally couldn’t have anything other than turbo. I know your dilemma bro, every one of us in this comments has the exact same headache every time we change car! 😂

I had a Subaru BRZ and it would run out of breath at the top end. It needed another 30 horses. The balance of the car and the lovely notchy gearbox were great. Horses for courses. Try before you buy. The gt86/BRZ is a grower, its attributes won’t necessarily be obvious on a short test drive.

R.I.P manual hot hatches. They seem to be slowly dying off each iteration. I’d never own auto despite what I keep reading from owners that’d never had auto till they tested one and never went back. I’ll never buy a new hot hatch if I can’t have manual. I’ll just buy old cars.

You were wrong alongside with many other millions who purchase DSGs. And unfortunately that mistake is making manuals extinct. Audi no longer offer manual apart from the A1/S1

bit off topic, how much does trader insurance cost and what are your limitations an allowances with it? can you drive whatever car you like? Any age restrictions?

Hard to get trade insurance under 25 ! Many sports cars are not covered ford rs , subuaru wrx , mitubushi evo .. unless you pay a lot extra extra ! Trade insurance has the dis advantage of paying out trade value if your car is stolen , or not paying out at all sometimes !!!!

Trade insurance will not always pay out in the event of a claim ! Friend had car site , with 50 plus cars £1000 - £20000 .. £13k bmw was stolen at night time on camera from the forecourt . thieves used a jammer / lap top , car was gone in 60 seconds ! His insurance only covered him for theft from home ! He didnt get paid out ! Consider "trade insurance " as a road risk policy for driving any car .. But if you have a car worth X amount , insure it with a normal car policy

no, there's no launch control on manual transmission. it's all about your skill. just try it out - push the clutch down, hold your gas pedal at 3-4k rpm, then release the clutch and feel/find the right point with max power and least burnout. the start is pretty easy, the hard part is to dose the gas right after the start (you'll see what i mean if you try it out).

I do enjoy autos myself, but manuals are a lot more reliable. Dsgs have been known to have a multitude of issues. All dual clutch transmissions are problematic. Zfs are pretty good though

thing is most people don't want the fastest car they want a car which is more fun to drive, obviously dsg is quicker than manual but some people enjiy manual more than automatic

You know how some people can't drive manual? I'm a bit like that with auto, it's a learning experience every time I drive one. Because they aren't always the same. Manual is always three pedals and a stick, I know where they are and they always work same.

Clutches wear when people don't know how to drive.. Sure if you mash the accelerator and slide the clutch every time you pull away.. It's gonna wear. But a stock car with a remap should see a clutch last 150K miles no problems.

I have never destroyed a clutch in my life, and I DRIVE the cars like I should! A good clutch is ruined only when the driving skills are absent.
