2 Avalanche high-performance cores. 4 Blizzard high-efficiency cores. Up to 5 Graphics Cores. 16 Neural Engine Cores. Double the system cache to keep it all fed. But, increasingly, it’s the non-big compute core features that are the most interesting: New image signal processor, ISP, including Smart HDR4. New video encode and decode blocks, including hardware acceleration for ProRes 422 video. New display engine for up to 120Hz adaptive refresh. New always-on touch co-processor to adapt that refresh in real-time. All with the best battery life ever delivered on an iPhone… and maybe, just maybe, our first glimpse at what might be coming for M2 and the next generation of Apple Silicon Macs.
This is the A15 Bionic deep dive!

@@PrasadTiruvalluri Bit of a misrepresentation. It was never that specs don’t matter at all, it’s that the number on the page was, and still is, only part of the story. It’s always been Apple’s integration of hardware and optimised software which has set them apart.

@@PrasadTiruvalluri I switched from android to apple after years just a few days ago. To the iPhone 13 to be exact. Why? Because my Oneplus 7T, yes it had flagship specs of its time and arguably better specs than apple however the optimisation apple has managed to achieve in regards to applications, stability and battery completely outweighs the abundance of features I had on an android.

A deep-dive into the neural engine/ML accelerators would be interesting because it's a kind of enigmatic black box. Do programs have to be specifically written to take advantage of them or is the acceleration done automatically? How does the CPU know when to use them? How does it know what code is ML and what is not? How do you know if they're being used? (Particularly on M-series Macs.)

Hi Rene, I have a question that many people in the NFT and collectibles world can't figure out and I thought you would be the perfect person to ask! When your trying to buy NFTs on a countdown drop as soon as the timer hits zero, one of the most important things is your ping speed. I have seen people using Ipad M1 pros for this and it seems to be an advantage with an ethernet adaptor. I'm hesitant to spend $1800 for one of the best Ipad Pros if I can get the same result with the new Ipad Mini and ethernet connection. So we all want to know will the M1 chip be a big advantage when it comes to wired internet connection and app performance or will the new Ipad mini be almost the same for 3 times less the price? Just for information, I have fiber internet 1000 up /1000 down and with wireless, I get 5ms ping and with ethernet adaptor, I get a 2ms ping.
