This is a A320, the sidesticks don’t give direct inputs to the control surfaces, they are passed through computers which are designed to keep the aircraft exactly where you positioned it, as such larger inputs are usually needed during landings. Edit: I am not a pilot this is second hand information I have learnt over a couple years.

Control surfaces are less sensitive at low airspeed.

actually, the word “retard” actually means to pull back. when they are landing the plane, by saying “retard” the plane is telling the pilots to reduce throttle. the word “retard” being used to describe a mentally challenged person is just slang.

@@pilotjdb I actually fly the a320, I have over 8,000 hours in fixed wing aircraft. Not once has that ever helped in any airplane that I have ever flown. Doing that at slow speeds does nothing. While you're partially right that control services are less sensitive at slower speeds, what that actually means is that they lag in their effectiveness. A more decisive or exaggerated slow input would make control surfaces more effective, specially with regards to ailerons. Short quick movements like that do absolutely nothing at slow speed on landing except create pilot induced roll movement which can further deteriorate flight control. With regards to the 320 the electric impulse that you're making from the side stick does not work that way. It's not like a conventional yoke or a mechanical input that moves a pulley and crank. The 320 when move the side stick One direction and let it go it auto trims instantly as to not require a another input unless needed. Makes zero sense to move the sidestick One direction and then back the other especially repeatedly. Even on the gustiest of days I've never seen a side stick need to be manipulated like that. That's over control.

"retard" means that the thrust levers must be brought to the IDLE position, on airbus aircraft the autothrust is connected until the final seconds of touchdown.
