The 83" A80L goes against the 65" X90L. This is a battle of the mid range of Sony's 2023 lineup. In most cases, you'll be able to purchase a larger X90L for the same price as a smaller A80L. This is a classic Oled vs. Led match-up. Both TVs also possess the coveted XR clear processing. Thank you for watching.
Special thanks to Value Electronics, and please consider making your next AV purchase through them valueelectronics.com/#2915 or call them directly at 914 723 3344 and ask for Robert or Wendy and please mention Brian at BRIAN'S TECH THERAPY.
Special thanks to the Amazing Jennifer Gala and her second channel, HDR SUPER CHANNEL, for all her amazing work seen within this video.

Brian - Happy New Year -- thank you so much for this well produced video. This helped me consider an A80L for an in-home audition, after first debuting an X90L in my home (65", in both cases). Your careful comparison over a variety of conditions showed me aspects of both televisions that were new to me. The X90L is a fantastic option, and actually has impressive in-person visual impact that doesn't 100% come across in this video (or others, either). Also, as mentioned by yourself and others, the OLED A80L shows whites far more accurately than some sources would have a buyer believe (I have seen competitive reviewers mention the A80L may not display red tones well, and I can personally attest that reds are vivid and bright). Having experimented with both 55" and 65" at moderate (6-8') viewing distances, I would certainly argue that a larger display may be more impactful than incremental improvements in image, if a potential buyer has the wall space. Definitely a must-audition both of these choices for anyone on the fence for either Sony option here, to identify whether the qualities and cost balance to their benefit. Great work, all around. Best regards, and wishing you increasing channel success -- a.

The blooming is actually pretty good on the X90L, it's not nearly as bad as the X90K blooming was. Sony did some magic considering how few dimming zones they have. Also the lack of pure whites on the OLED is kind of jarring, it makes it look like it hasn't been calibrated

@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPYhey Brian i’m struggling to find settings that I’m satisfied with as far as motion goes on this A80l… It’s like laggy most of the time especially in slow panning shots.. gaming works perfectly. I just can’t seem to get it in that sweet spot for any other content where it’s just smooth motion… debating take back for the x90. Would that have any different motion or is it just a Sony thing ? This is my first upgrade in 10 years and these motion issues become quite distracting . 😕🤷‍♂️ any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

I am looking to go ahead with 65" A80L due to the picture quality (top priority), sound and processing though little doubtful if going for 75" X90L would be better choice in any way. I use TV for OTT streaming totally nothing else right now and though my room is bright in day but I can get dark curtains and most of my TV watching is during night anyway except for Sunday. What would be the better bet if picture quality is top priority? And is the difference in X90L (75") & A80L (65") night and day in terms of picture quality in OTT streaming?? Can't go for 77" A80L due to budget restrictions. And I will be upgrading from a 50" 4K VU LED TV bought 2.5 Yrs back.

Excellent question! Excellent name, by the way. Burn in is much less likely, and I have a video on this dropping in a few days. Now, if that TV is showing the exact same content for that period of time without changing the type of content or channel, you will experience image retention and perhaps burn in after years of use. If you vary the content, you can watch all day and night. If it's the same channel and programming all day every day an led will be a better choice. I hope this helps and thank you so much for watching

The A80L is 50% more than the X90L. So not really both in the same convo. I went with the X90CL for my living room as both price and longevity are (likely) better. I don't have any worries about "burn in" with constant family tv watching. For a future screen for my eventual theater room, I'll look to whatever OLED tech is available then.

Awesome video Brian keep up the great work! Just watching pricing/sales for a basement family room for daily content and home theatre. The choice will be between an 85" X90L or 77" A80L. I read that someone said the X90L was too bright for them in this application but I'd think the picture could be set up to compensate for that? Any thoughts would be great. I tend to like the natural look of the X90L but colors and details do tend to pop on the A80L. It would be great to get some picture calibration settings for both to compensate for any blooming, etc. even though people do see things differently. Cheers!

@InquisitiveEngineer
@InquisitiveEngineer 3 күн бұрын
@@user-nj6rk5xs1m You may have already made your decision, but choosing a size really depends on your space and viewing distance. The space question is mainly a matter of aesthetics-how it looks in the context of the room as a whole-and is very subjective. The viewing distance question-which determines how much of your field of view the image occupies-is easier to figure out, since it's that's just math. There are good size/distance calculators out there to help you, such as the one at RTINGS. In general, you want it to fill at least 30 degrees of your vision horizontally, while 40 degrees is more like an ideal cinema/theater experience. To achieve 40 degrees with your two options, for example, you would sit about 6.5 ft from the 65-in screen and 7.5 ft from the 75-in screen (compared to 9 ft and 10 ft for the more casual 30-degree viewing experience). I've learned all of that today while going down the new-TV rabbit hole myself, and it's been helpful to me just now to think through that "aloud," since I'm thinking about a 75-in TV for my own space. So, hopefully that's helpful for you, too!

The A80L does look better in most cases, but for me personally it doesn't justify spending an extra $800 (at the time that I write this the X90L is $1199 and the A80L is $1999 for the 65"). Brian, thank you for this video. I've been thinking of the A80L for my next family room TV. My only concern was brightness during the daytime in a bright room. Your video showed that the A80L looks fine in a bright room and doesn't look dim or washed out. And with it's much greater contrast level it generally looked better than the X90L during daylight. This surprised me , as many on KZfaq say that WOLED (not G3) doesn't do well in a bright room. I need to buy a Sony as all my content is streamed or OTA with an antenna. I do not have a Blu-ray player and I don't game. I knew the A95L would meet my needs, but thanks to you I now know the A80L would also be a very good choice and offer considerable savings too. It's a very tough decision and unfortunately I can only comment on the 85" X93L which beats the X90L easily even without XR clear. Unfortunately I haven't spent Time with the smaller sizes. Call me crazy but I much prefer the X90L look here. It just looks far more natural to me. More saturation doesn't mean better in my humble opinion. I agree with you in regard to gaming, the OLED is just way better there. The only way I agree that burn in isn't a consideration is when one is perfectly fine with repurchasing a new TV when/if burn in occurs. I replaced my last LED TV after 13 years. I simply don't trust an OLED to last me that long. I know there is a camp that drops a few grand every few years on a new TV, for those I can definitely see how burn in isn't a concern whatsoever.

Seeing both in person, the X90L is a fantastic TV and is much closer to OLED than I've seen before for that tech and a stunning TV. Would like to see the X90L vs X93L in this size to see if the X93 is worth the premium at that size. We know the 85” X93L has the AUO panel is more top tier.

Hi Brian, I recently purchased and received my 77A95L from Robert at VE, and got it calibrated thru their services too. It's beautiful. However, I haven't received my calibration report and have been having trouble getting Robert to respond. On the phone he said he will send but hasn't. After posting on avsforum owner's thread, apparently there's several others with the same problem (not received calibration report or not getting responses). We would all appreciate if you can help in this since you are a regular there at VE. Thanks, love your videos.

Got a 65 A80L. Returning it immediately. Dent on top right with dent on screen. No damage to box. Regardless of that. It’s just too dim. X90L’s picture is way more impactful and vibrant. A80L was dull and lifeless and dark. Even with all the brightness settings turned up all the way. It just needs more brightness. It shouldn’t even be on the market like that. also the white blues were just bad. White cnn logo is baby blue. It’s noticeable all over. Awesome blacks. Great viewing angle. Slightly better picture clarity compared to the x90l. But none of that matters when its just too dim. Ill live with x90l and ill see what prices the new 2024 miniled models end up being. I would try the x93l vs the x90l but it still has blooming. But i dont think it has the white cast that x90l has. But it has that weird bottom that juts out when you remove the feet, which I would have to do. And its gold. And way overpriced.

Too bad as the best comparison hands down is the not the X90 vs A80, but rather the X93L versus the A80L. The X93 is superior to the X90L even without Clear Image and is similar in price. I see your answer about the convenience to do so being an issue. I do understand and like your videos, but most buying in this range would look at an X93L.

They are both very good, my friend . In my opinion, the X90L only beats the A80L if the X90L is larger which is your exact scenario. So in short I go X90L if that is a good size for you. I hope this helps and thank you so very much for watching

There is no perfect display or display technology. They all have their pros and cons. You have to decide which areas of performance are most important to you, what formats you plan on viewing, and what screen size and budget is most comfortable for you. The Sony XR-85X90CL fits within my perfect sweet spot for performance, size, and price. Bright room visibility and saturated colors are important to me. I think of the slightly elevated black levels on VA panels the same way I think of the slight hiss on good analog audio recordings. I have my X90L, but there is so much going on with the people I depend on for assistance that I still haven't unpacked or mounted it yet.

Love this comparison, love this vide and the style... Never had more doubts which one to choose than after your video🤐 Glossy panel and windows reflections, washed colours (too dark) and "blue-whites" in some scenes made me thinking A80L (and OLEDs in general) is no go for me, but scenes where 90L dimming is really noticeable and in particular in Elden Ring game showed strenghts of the OLED and I thought OMG this is my next TV, LED looks ugly with Souls-like games; unfortunately looking at the budget I can choose between 65 OLED vs 75/85 LED, having almost 5m from sofa to TV, bright living room with lots of windows choice seems to be obvious to go with bigger, brighter and no so-reflective finish panel.... or wait for '24 models and spend another year with old kd-55xe7005😔

Brian! Outstanding! This is powerful!! I've heard nothing but (mainly) very good things about the X90L. But, now I'm all but sold on the A80L. I look at it this way: If I'm going to have a TV, it might as well be a QUALITY unit that'll serve for at least FOUR years. Over that span, an extra ~$300 is not all that much!

I'm glad you found the video helpful, my friend. The X90L is very good for what it is but it is a mid level led and the a80L is a high end oled. It's most definitely worth the difference in price.

@colinchang1543 excellent question! I do personally feel the A80L is worth the extra money especially if it's the larger 77" over the 75" . I'd sat it's at least $800. better. I hope this helps and thank you for watching

@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY Thank you so much :) This is my first time I've taken interest in TV's and it seems I'm a Sony guy after trialing different brands. My biggest hesitation is the lack of overall brightness and shadow detail with the A80L. I'm wondering if the X93L or Bravia 7 (once the price drops) might be better options for my use case, with wanting more brightness and HDR pop... what are your thoughts?
