Voigtlander Ultron 21mm f1.8 Aspherical Lens // Shots & Thoughts
I've been using this lens for the past few months and thought I'd do a quick video about my overall thoughts. This Voigtlander 21mm f1.8 lens is such a nice, compact, sturdy and sharp lens to have in your bag. I needed a decently sized wide-angle lens and this was just right for me. In this video you'll see it being used outside in different settings in both full frame and aps-c mode.
One thing I wish I could comment on is how this lens compares to the newer Voigtlander 21mm f1.4 lens. I know that lens doesn't have the attached lens hood, which would make changing the filter all the more easier [I don't mention it in this video, but one of the things that takes time to get used to is the attached lens hood at the top of the lens; you can't take it off, and although it doesn't affect the image at all, sometimes it gets in the way of changing the strength of a VND filter]

Great tests man, loved the viltrox video too. I have the SL2 and am looking at very similar focal lengths for video...I wish L mount had more native lenses however. Also with the SL2 I want to shoot DCI 4k, so trying to factor in the crop is making it hard to guess what focal length might be best.

Thank you brother! I also wish there were more native l-mount lenses haha. And in terms of the crop, that has been one of the more difficult things for me to consider when deciding what lens to shoot with. To full-frame or to slowmo 🤔 If I remember correctly, the SL2 has full-frame 60fps (at least with an external recorder) which sadly the SL2-s does not. Is it when you record internally where it forces you to crop?

@@AaronDanielFilms Yes it does! Unfortunately I don't have an external recorder at the moment, but using the max v90 cards...so weird how the SL2 has that advantage hmm. So it offers UHD in full frame, but if you want full 4k DCI it's in APSC Super 35mm mode, which doesn't really bother me but just trying to get the right focal length is hard. Normally I shoot wide, so the sigma 14-24 would be ideal on full frame but the APSC crop makes it more standard. Tough decisions aye. Love your videos man, you have to be by far the best person using this setup. From what I've seen around youtube, photos and videos on the SL aren't of the best standard, so it's so good to see someone using these cameras properly

@@AaronDanielFilms Good thing is Leica has made some solid firmware updates recently, so fingers crossed we continue to get some improvements down the line

Hope to continue building these test videos alongside your journey too :) Truly tough decisions when weighing full frame vs apsc, especially at these premium *Leica* prices. I'm also hoping the firmware updates tackle these little nuances. We've waited too long just for PreRes Raw already 😅

@@AaronDanielFilms Aye thanks so much Aaron! Would love to see more of these vids so helpful. I'm currently using the 35mm summilux-m so I should really be using that (but again the crop changes it all). Getting ProRes RAW would be so nice, surely we'll get it soon. Have you ever tried adapting Canon FD lenses to the SL? They look great on a digital sensor

Just found your channel. I am probably buying the SL2-s just for video, but am still thinking about the Sony a1. I have almost every Leica lens, so its hard not to stick with Leica.... but that Sony autofocus, hmm.

Haha yes it is a tough decision, especially if autofocus is the priority. I would almost certainly sway towards the Sony if autofocusing is a must. I haven't tried using autofocus on my SL2-s as I currently don't even have lenses to support this, though I know the majority of reviews point towards a sub-par af system on Leica's part (sadly 😅)
