I started the program at 48 years old and 5’ 10” 175. Had back problems for the last 30 years obviously not due to weight. Now 195 and 6 months into the program. Zero back issues. My back feels 10x stronger from all the deadlifts and squats.

My back feels 10 times stronger, though measurably, my deadlift is up 50%. Never deadlifted in my life before the program. Deadlift went from 165 to 250 so far. Slower increases now, at 5lb increases every 2 weeks. Rip would tell me I need to gain 15 more lbs of bodyweight to continue to increase. We’ll see. Older = slower increases.

Nah, he ain't a troll. He's constantly making excuses and he's got that whine to his voice, so it's deeply ingrained. He should have listened and started to follow the free advice (well, free except for the cost of his phone call). His doctor warning him about cholesterol was the real cherry on top. That's indeed what doctors say. They know shit and they spew a lot of BS, raking in cash as they do so. I'm surprised the doctor didn't recommend an open-heart surgery to check his cholesterol.

Derek is concerned with his high cholesterol, because he perceives it to be an imminent and high level threat to his health (perhaps he's had cardiac episodes in the past or he's had friends family die from heart attack) . That's why he doesn't dare to eat more robustly. I think explaining to him what high cholesterol means (or rather doesn't mean) would have served him better and encouraged him to be more adventurous in his eating habits. He's looking after himself and just needs a little more understanding.

When I start to lose, that's when my joints give me problems. Yeah I was 160, just shy of 210 now in about a year. Quit chewing dip and learned how to pound food. Didn't worry about how many calories per meal, just made sure to have 3 meals accompanied by at least 2 mason jars (4 cups total) of milk per meal. You can always fit more liquid. 2 cups of milk plus protein powder for a bedtime snack. 20 piece nuggets plus a large chocolate shake a couple times a week helped too. I thought I was a hardgainer. I just had to learn to like food.

At least give the caller some credit for being honest. I just started the program two weeks ago. I'm 5'7.5 and up to 150 pounds from about 143-144. I bought Whey protein and a blender and have two protein shakes a day (whole milk, ice cream, berries, whey protein). I eat two sausage and egg crossaints in the morning (if I get up late) from BK on my way to work (about 40G of protein for $4, can't beat it). Or if I get up early enough 3 eggs, oatmeal, and two glasses of whole milk. I'm just like the caller in that I really hate eating food but I've finally forced myself to eat enough to grow. My numbers are 145X5 on bench, 175X5 on Squat, and 215X5 on Deadlift. I'm aiming for 170-180 pounds. I would like a 1.5X BW bench, 2X Squat, 2.5X Deadlift (as my goal for the time being).

@LTPottenger
@LTPottenger 3 жыл бұрын
Your weight is nothing to do with blood pressure. If you have liver fat you will have high blood pressure, if not, not, it is really that simple. Insulin stimulates the kidney to hold on to sodium and fluids and this is what causes high blood pressure, and chronic high insulin is caused by fatty liver. So you can only get hbp if you eat lots of garbage such as sugar, bread and other processed foods.

@@LTPottenger By what mechanism beyond calories in calories out does processed food lead to excess liver fat? Doesn't genetics determine where fat is stored in the body if there is a caloric excess? I did not say my bloodwork measured insuline, I said my bloodwork is perfect (including numbers that would be off if insulin was chronically high). Not attacking you, just saying that it's hard to believe that different foods could lead to differential fat deposit beyond just caloric excess. Also I eat almost no processed foods or sugary foods so not sure where the problem is.

Coach, I need your help stat. I am 7'11", 137.5 lbs and my bench is stuck at 90 lbs, the most I ever dealifted was just the 1 plate on each side so 135 lbs which is just shy of my bodyweight for a double. Besides gaining weight is there anything else I can do? Can I drink a gallon a urine a day instead of the prescribed whole milk? Can I hop on a different set and rep range for a bit or buy a new book to read? Please advise. Thank you.

Building muscle is a slow process, gaining fat is quick and easy. It takes years of hard work and proper diet to get big and strong. 1-2 pounds gained a month is fine. Body fat does not lift the weight, muscle does.
