A Devastating Look Inside An Abandoned 1940's Arkansas Radio Station. Explore # 108
I have never filmed in the USA before so I was thrilled to get together with ‪@AbandonedAtlasFoundation‬ and head out to Newport, Arkansas, USA and explore. Gage was kind enough to join us and give us a full guided tour of this historic place.
KNBY/KOKR radio station was built in 1949 and abandoned in 2004. So many things are left behind here. The roof has been leaking for years now. Sadly everything that has been left behind is rotting away. For years it operated as an AM station. Years later it operated as an FM station. In 2012 after 8 years the KOKR went back on air in a new building across the street operating as River Country 96.7FM. Thank you Gage for sharing the history of this place and being in the video.
Thank you Gage for showing us around and giving us the history on this place.

Thank you to the ‪@AbandonedAtlasFoundation‬ for letting me tour this amazing site!

About me:
I have been exploring abandoned places since I was a child and now I would like to film the explores and share the videos with you.
My father took me to my first abandoned house when I was 7 years old. I remember going into the house and a old farmer came in and told us "we better watch out as the floors are all rotten and unsafe". Ever since that day I was hooked on exploring abandoned places.
If you have a location you would like to share with me or want me to explore for you please send me an email at abandonedurbexcanada@hotmail.com and I will give you full credit for the share in the description and during the video if you choose.

I worked radio for 40 years. If I may add some info: The three small lamps on the wall are telephone lamps. They're normally used to show the phone was ringing. Different lights for different lines usually. Not saying they couldn't be used for something else. The reel to reel decks are Revox A77 machines. If they were in good shape, they'd be worth a little money on eBay. I've worked with machines identical to those in the late 70s. The big light bulb on the floor that you picked up was a beacon light from the tower. It was likely a 600watt bulb, and often 2 of them were in the red light (beacon) at the top of the tower. I believe the audio mixer that had the very old headphones laying on it was made by Ramko Research. I used to own one just like it. Those were a real piece of cheap junk! Those old transmitters have scrap value! Thanks for the tour. Great video!

Thank you for visiting Arkansas! Should do it again. fun little fact, that white phone in the transmitter area, it was used for calling for maintenance on those machines, Especially when they went down during broadcasts. Mr. Turner would call that phone and instruct the people there on how to get it back up and going. Love the video! Keep it up man! - Gage

Enjoyed hearing about the music history with the station. Can't believe all the stuff left behind, especially personal files!?! Cool seeing the cassettes and CD's. I wonder why the new radio station didn't clean it out when they moved.

Nice radio station tour! I work in radio so this kind of work is my career. Worked on a Gates transmitter similar to the one you found It would be 5 or 10 kw. The front of the transmitter and is case is grounded . It what’s inside that can fatally bite you. The main power disconnect and your ground stick are your freinds those save your lives. As an engineer did studio engineer work, too work at the VOA/Marti short wave transmitter plant in Greenville, NC. 100kw,250kw and 500kw transmitters.

Those machines you show at around 19 minutes in the video are Revox A77 tape recorders. One of the workhorses of the audio industry. Made in Switzerland by the Studer company they offered amazing sound quality and reliability at a fairly affordable price. That's why a LOT of small radio stations and recording studios used them.

Very cool and certainly far flung from the normal haunts were used to from Ontario to BC..... That post WW2 brutalist, utilitarian architecture with the 70's interior makeover is all pretty trippy to say the least. Rabbit warren of wood paneling.... But My God, what a wreck! Shocking what they left behind. All those CD's, tapes, vinyl, memorabilia. Wow.

Posters and CDs that represent Shattered Dreams and Hopes. Maybe they were better off. Many who "made it", didn't. Even Elvis kinda spiraled down although he did A LOT. Even if they (the Poster and CD artists you are showing here) didn't, though, they have bragging rights. They are in the radio station that saw the early years of Elvis and many other big names. That is more than I can say! KUDOS to all the musicians that made it to (be kept by) this radio station!!

That light bulb that you had in your hand was for the tower light. A few years ago I binged watched youtube videos of John hettish and he changed a few of those bulbs. This was cool I'm kinda of a radio station/ transmitter tower fanatic lol. Fun fact a few years ago I was tuning on my am radio and I received wsm radio from nashville TN almost 900 miles away. I live in MN

Brent, you looked positively dewy, the humidity must've been awful there. All those cobwebs were a part of you. I was actually uncomfortable watching your progress thru this place!

I like radio. You can do stuff around the house and be entertained or hear news or talk shows. The internet isn't everything.

The bell, as it is noted, is a Program Monitor Alarm which would only go off if the AM and/or FM station experiences dead air. The guy wires have insulators on them, so the tower itself was likely the AM radiator. That is a pretty good site to redevelop if the owners can get what they are asking.

I want to know what brand of tape they used on the posters that are still hanging on the walls,,, I can't get the tape we use today to stay stuck to anything ! I would also like to know what's on the old reels. Awesome find.
