This store was always family owned by the same great people. This version of the store is after a major renovation sometime I believe in the 80's. Many great memories of the people who worked and ran the store growing up in WESTOVER. In 1983 my dad passed away while I was in High School and I vividly remember Paul, one of the owners bringing a car full of groceries to our home as a show of support for free. Westover was a wonderful place to grow up and this place was an anchor of the community.

The building is actually located in Westover, which is a "suburb" of Morgantown. The store was a Foodland many years before it became Shop n Save.

I worked there in 2004-early 2005.. the building was pretty rough even back then. It was my first job, I used to have to push the shopping carts uphill across that lot then into the front entrance. Even in the winter time... it closed in around 2011-'12...

This was our primary grocery store growing up. So many memories. I remember they did a very makeshift tiny kids “haunted house” walk through in the Halloween candy feature isle. Blew my little kid mind.

Worked at that store in 2001 and meet my husband there. We worked in the deli.

I used to walk to this Shop 'n' Save as a kid and still live down the street from it. It was a family owned store and after it closed there was some fighting between the brothers about what to do with the property. It was originally up for lease for years and years and now it's actually for sale. The building still stands with no occupants. Several years ago, a couple of homeless guys broke in and lived there and ended up starting a fire that had to be put out. It's a cool piece of Westover history but it's becoming an eye sore on the town

I've lived in Morgantown all my life, and this store definitely closed way before 2017- I'd say somewhere between 2009-2012 if my memory serves. I can only vaguely remember shopping there a few times, and it had to have either been before or during my kindergarten year. I was really little but I remember it smelled awful the few times we shopped there haha. I'm in high school now but this old abandoned store has become a major constant for anyone growing up here where it seems there's a new towncentre every week.

Supervalu was the owner of the Shop N Save for the Pittsburgh region. It was sold to independent owners that manage the brand in Pittsburgh region. Another brand that is Foodland.

My mom used to go shopping here all the time we lived in the neighborhood behind it all I remember from it is that the place where she got Nella wafers

Sucks couldn't see inside bring too dark. Yes that is a vintage Automatic Teller Machine, I remember these old mg machines banks had with that type of screen. Excellent video Wallie.

Shop 'n Save had stores in the metro St. Louis, metro Pittsburgh and surrounding areas. Owned by Minneapolis-based Supervalu, the chain was liquidated when they got out of the retail business in 2019. About half the St. Louis-area stores were bought by Schnucks, with other chains buying others or the stores went vacant. The Shop n' Save here appears to have an older, different banner or was a franchise for someone else.

Hi. You're in West Virginia. Well its October. Have you ever been to the abandoned Shawnee Park in West Virginia. I know in October. They let people in I plan to go in October. They say not to go alone make sure you have a few people if you go. And if you want to read up on it you can look it up online from what I understand it's a true story.

The Missouri Shop 'n Save was primarily the St Louis region, so it also had a lot of stores in Illinois (Illinois side of St Louis is known as the "metro east").

Yep was there when i was younger last time i was in there was 2015

I lived in the neighborhood behind that store in Fall of 2008- Spring 2009. It was still open and while not my go to, I would shop there from time to time because it was so close. I think they did OK business wise but the building had some issues. overtime the Walmart and Giant Eagle in nearby Granville took a share of their business. I believe they actually closed in 2012

Near where I live there is a PNC Bank that closed in 2015. The ATM in the drive-thru was active for about a year or so afterwards before it was taken out.

I’m from Morgantown! I miss this store!! It’s been sitting empty for so long. The building must have issues, they want way tooo much for rent or both!? Also there is a Giant Eagle off the next exit as well as an Aldi and 2 Kroger’s 😊! I really want them to bring a Whole Foods to our area!

in Pittsburgh supervalu closed or sold the 20 corporate shop n saves in the Pittsburgh Market ones that didn't sell closed the one in Butler did 13 years ago before Save a Lot took over it.

I can remember when that was Foodland for years before it became a Shop N Save I am 53 years old and have lived in Greene county Pa just across the line from Morgantown my whole life that building has been there since I can remember.

there's actually a way to get on the roof AND get inside, me and my friends went in there and its pretty cool/creepy but def. recommend

It hasn’t been close for that long I am almost 16 now and I remember me and my father going to the store around when I was seven he would go to the tobacco outlet and get snuff. I used to live in that part of town a long time ago it’s not Morgantown its Westover but call it what you want this video really brought back some memories

I never seen neon on an ATM booth, that is old, I remember MAC that dates it too. This Shop-m-Save I an example of an old neighbourhood supermarket before they started to build in shopping centres in high commercial areas.

I think Shop N Save closed in 2017 or earlier then that. If you wating to look inside visit website of LoopNet. That place is gutted out. Maybe build in 50s - 70s. The abandoned Shop N Save super close to FedEX center.

Their deli was a biohazard ! I got a horrible case of food poisoning from some of their warm food.Never been so sick or puked so much in my life.

Morgantown Has 2 Giant Eagles 1 on each end of town. And also have 2 Kroger`s. One is in suncrest Town Center and the other is in Sabraton out on Wv Rt 7. The other Shop N Save out at Cheat Lake is now a Discount Food store

Before the building was built, it was a small family owned grocery store. Mr Brown was the store owner when I was a little girl back in the 60’s. My older brother and sisters used to walk me up to Mr.Browns store and we would trade in pop bottles and buy candy and “Pop” (I usually got an Orange Crush). The owner lived on our street and had a huge garden every summer. He sold his vegetables in the store. We were instructed to stay away from Mr. Browns Garden, and if our ball went into his garden, it would be confiscated and never returned. He did not like children hanging around in his store. I remember him telling me once when I was five that I took too long picking out the candy I wanted and adults did not like little kids hanging around the store. Before he passed away he and his wife decided to sell the store. The Foodland was built and later became Westover Shop and Save. I remember the old store having a wooden floor that creeked with every step. When it rained there were buckets to catch the water that leaked in through the ceiling. On very hot days in summer, the aroma was a smell of vegetables, raw meat, grain, and mildew. I remember when Mom decided to start shopping in Morgantown at the A&P because they had more variety. Good memories.

We had a store similar to that in my old neighborhood called Bi-Rite they were very old little grocery stores that were closed by the early 90s

I want there a couple of times when I was younger

I grew up in the Westover area, not far from this grocery store. In fact. This is technically considered Westover. But I digress. Actually, I have very vivid memories of shopping here. One summer in particular stands out. I was around 13 or 14 years old, and was sleeping over at a buddies house one night. Anyway, him and I walked up the hill to Shop N' Save, right before closing at 9 pm. Purchased a few dozen eggs to throw at a few neighbor's houses that we didn't like. Good times. 😁

This reminds me of the Sack N' Save that used be here in Fort Worth that's now shut down (not related, other than vaguely similar name). The building is abandoned. I haven't been in there since 2003. I might try to see if I can check it out.

I remember passing by a few times to go to the mall while a student. Kroger dominated them so bad as a former Kroger worker. Since it was empty some people decided to throw a bunch of trash over there.

That Shop N Save has been closed up for a few years now. I don't remember exactly when it closed but it kind of shocked me the first time I went by when I saw it was closed up. The other Morgantown area Shop N Save was changed to a Price Cutters. There are two Shop N Saves a little north of there in Fairchance PA and Uniontown PA. The ATM kind of made me chuckle because I remember having to walk to that ATM from about a mile up the road several years back to get cash for getting my windows tinted.
