For the people going “who cares? They are prisoners.” Please understand that things like this affects the reoffending rate, and basically kills what little “rehabilitation” American prisoners actually do. Treating someone like an animal for a few decades, is not going to rehabilitate them into a model citizen, literally anybody can see the massive flood in that logic. It’s even just a known fact that it makes criminals even worst criminals, so why are we supporting this punishment over rehabilitation system? Europe was able to see the flaw in that logic in the 18 freaking hundreds, so what is our excuse?

The comment sections is so misunderstood. I work in corrections, these guys living conditions are bad but not because of the reason you think. We have people in there everyday fixing the ac and the building. Civilian Maintenance workers can only work in the building when every inmate is gone which is never, because they live there. Why don’t the inmates just fix the buildings? Because they will turn the tools we give them into shanks. Inmates are constantly tearing the paint off the walls, turning outlets in lighters and destroying the place. And as far as funding for the DOC may sound like a lot but you have to think about how understaffed prisons are. Most of the pay is going to overtime. There are about 130 inmates to one officers in every dorm. I started off nice to the inmates when I first started working there but if you ever get to the chance to work at one these places you won’t stay nice for long. These guys aren’t in here for petting kittens. They will victims themself at every chance they get. They will try to infringe you any chance they get. The main staff members who are dirty staff are nice. They will feel bad for the inmates and give them something they aren’t supposed to have. The inmate will use that against you and next thing you know you are getting bent over a table.

Inmates don't have to be in a kitchen to serve any other inmate!, an inmate in Florida does not even have air conditioning throughout 107-degree temperature! Inmates in the Florida correctional facility do not have to do nothing but their time! There is no treatment and no counseling for any of the inmates in Florida! Florida gets billions of dollars to the correctional facilities so who is doing the work the inmates so where's the rest of the money going to? They also clean houses of people including the people that have power over the towns with the prisons in them for free! The people have awakened and people are doing research now soon to come!

My Uncle was a detective in the 60s. When he arrested someone, he would say " are you sorry you did it, or are you sorry you got caught?" I recommend that the inmates read the John Stienbeck novel- Cannery row. John Stienbeck said and I quote, " for their are two possible reactions to social ostracizem, either a man becomes more determined to be better, purer and kinder or he goes bad challenges the world and does even worse things, the latter is by far the commenist reaction to stigma." If these inmates don't take responsibility for their actions, prison will be a revolving door for them.

I don't think them protesting is saying they aren't accepting responsibilities for their actions. I mean, I'm sure a lot of them aren't, but I don't think this specific situation is equating that necessarily.

At end of all things we all will be held accountable for how we lived this life. Including the people locking up others they deem as criminals. All of us will need mercy. You do not want to be found living this life without giving mercy to others... Some of these prison guards do terrible things to inmates with no repercussions. Wardens are like Gods... I do agree that criminals need to be separated from non-criminals. However people always have basic rights... and then there is constitutional rights. I know many of you that believe prison is to easy..., have never been to prison. You know not of what you do not know. Prison should not be a place of torture. You want to be found to be good to those that are not good to you... you will need that same mercy shown to you.

To give you a little bit more insight... There inmates in prison that are first offenders, and there's a lot of inmates in there that are high profile killers drug dealers child molesters sex offenders to. But @ the same time there is some inmates there that are innocent and didn't get a fair trial... and all this because of crook Detectives, Police officer that because of there lazy ness and lack of profesional and ethical work mess up on evidence and try to cover everything up and the DA to and attorneys of the State that don't care to give a fair trial because they need to close the case and go to next one because of priorities of other cases that will help them to move up.....and they cover themselves because if they made a mistake that will cost there job's and the State money... So for it they throw the key out on inocent people or low profile cases of first offenders..... So think of a family member being accuse being inocent and having to live in those conditions or a first offender low profile case that didn't get a fair trial... I'm talking about the low profile or inocent inmates living in those conditions... Not only that every body needs a second chance and on top of that Reality even this inmates with high profile have a date of release and if they don't have programs of revelations we are going to have worst criminals coming out to the society with out those programs....and about medical health insurance we are all human and we all disserve to be treated as human being no matter who or who not disserve it...is by law and we can't not play God...this is why we live in this world of cruelty because we human want to be vindictive and cruel with one another and live around life with the say you hit me hard I'll hit you harder... dividing as human being and acting like animals with no brain and selfless being....But okay let's be worst then "Criminals" let us think lest human and think like animals we will be a better society... WOW and let those poor police gard risk there life to working on those conditions... let's not forget about that to...

@@donnahuff2843 I absolutely understand what you're saying. I volunteer at the food bank in my town. I help to support a friend who is disabled with 1 disabled and one autistic child. Social services is crazy in the US. It's made to be impossible to figure out. And instructions counter each other. But they can decide if they want peanut butter or other foods. Yes, there is horrible food insecurity. My friend had her food stamps cut because they said her son could come in for free meals. Our prisons violate the Geneva conventions for torture. My friend desperately wants to work but it's too much trouble for them. Now in Florida children can't color a picture for their parent. I think the largest problem from our side is the propaganda. TV shows, set up visits. (Visits are now impossible because they want prisoners to do it via a fuzzy equivalent to Zoom and pay for that. The law libraries have law books 20 years out of date. The regular library has almost no books. There is rare times they're let out to essentially a batting cage. If you're ill, even seriously you have to put in a medical request. I know two people who have died of cancer. One colon, one prostate. What does it mean to have it so good? On Florida it gets up to 101 no AC. We are sentencing people to death. There are thousands of people inside who never got a trial. My friend admits to his crime. He was 18 plus 1 month. He was starving at home. He was r a ped by his pastor who gave him food for his family especially his little sister he protected from gang bangers. He does no drugs. I try to tutor him via us mail but it's so noisy it's impossible. Prisons are to rehabilitate people not to torture them.
