Lowell is awful. They abuse, beat, rape, threatened women each and everyday. I was there. They male officers watched at female officers strip searched us(work release that was evacuated because of a hurricane.) The ae officers taunted, harassed, and made many brutal statements during search. Female officers made women remove tampons in front of Male officers, including the Lieutenant. We were there for a week. They required to feed inmates 3x a day. They consistently ran out of food. They refused toballow us to order canteen so we could buy ate own food, along with hygiene products. Cuz they claimed they didn't have any. Which they required to give toothpaste, toothbrush, pride soap, toliet paper, & tampons/pads. They refused to give us(100+ women), any of it. We went days without eating. Had male officers come watch us use the restroom and shower(which is illegal.) Refused us to use phones and contact our families. They finally let us order canteen on our 5th day. They can rhe following day with 2 orders, stating the rest of us never ordered, yet our accts were missing $100. They are disguisting ppl.

Prisons ought to have a program where selected prisoners can work towards an early release by being sent around to schools to make a presentation to the students on what their story is, what has happened to them in prison, and what can happen to the students if they do crime. And that there is usually no taking it back.

If prison policies for an adequate health care, protection, etc are not implemented, they then do Not exist in Practice! The prison 'grievence process is robust', now that's a bad joke! And why do prisons have paralyzed and bedridden prisoners incarcerated?? For sure, they are not getting the care they need there! The prisons need to be overhauled and reformed! There needs to be more effective oversight and organizations that make sure that procedures are followed!

They make money off phone calls and everything you do with an inmate has to be paid for. Prisons should not make profits off inmate's families. They did not do the crime. It is horrible the prison system. I am all for people who did a crime need to do their time. Something does need to be done and it looked at the way they are run and how they classify inmates. Cost for families too. It is not right how things are. Prisons should not be contracted out. Peace!

It's true the "keepers" are a serious problem with the system. They are poorly/inadequately trained and expected to perform at a level Far beyond reasonable expectations. If they can't meet the required standards they are over looked for advancement, raises and just everyday kindness especially. the female officers who in addition to the standard amount of BS they endure sexual harassment from their colleagues and inmates alike. No woman should have to tolerate the BS that is shoveled around by their fellow workers and the people they have been entrusted to watch over.Dont look to the state for a "rewarding" job with wonderful benefits and a safe environment. You'll do better at your local McDonald's with money and a friendly work place.

If it were only that simple. You can end up in prison for a myriad of reasons and not all of them are your fault. Granted most people that go to prison have broke the law but to what extent? Did they sell a joint or a kilo of cocaine? If you have enough arrests as an a teenager you could end up in prison for that joint. The punishment should fit the crime. It shouldn't be the punishment Falls Within These guidelines and the person/ inmate Falls Within These guidelines so they're going to be put in prison for X number of years. It's a flawed system that requires a lot of redo so to speak. They need to get somebody into the system to look at all the problems and at least try to come up with a fair system of sentencing and care. As it is now they are merely Warehoused like cattle. They are not considered human beings they're merely a number on an inmate role. And each number is worth X number of dollars to the state because they are paid per inmate. And Money Talks Nothing Else Matters to the system.

Prison employees do not like to process this sort of thing and no one makes a policy, lets everyone know what the policy is (aka transparency), and then enforces that policy among all concerned including prison employees. In other words, typical government operation.

No families can't supply them. The medical system is a joke. I know in 2006 FLDOC received approx 35k per inmate per year from taxpayer money. Pretty sure it's gone up a significant amount in 15 years. Prisons are self sufficient and operate because of the inmates. Soooo, the real question should be....where is all the money going?!?!?!!!! They allocate it and make their annual reports for funding and how each dept will receive x amount. They don't, trust me. Inmates can barely get a role of toliet paper or bar of soap. Women are refused feminine hygiene products, and of receiving them they get 2 to 3. Lowell is the most corrupt women's prison in FL. The officer starve them(giving them 5 min or less to eat(of there's enough food for the entire compound!) They male officers consistently do walk-throughs in toliet and shower areas or hang out in the officer station watching all the women shower. They will be there during strip searches. They beat, rape, and disregard any and every law. They feel they're above it and untouchable. They belong behind those fences more than 75% of those there!

The way you phrase it it sounds like a spa. You go in there for a week and come back out and tell me if you feel like you were in a spa. Medical Care is routinely denied and slow down to a snail's face in the hope that the inmate will be released or give up on the idea of being treated. They want to save that money it all goes down to money. And I don't care how much money as an inmate you have you cannot use it to help yourself with medical care that is totally up to the system.
