Probably it was a lot less than 60 seconds. Time isn't perceived the same way during shock. This sounds like a lot of confusion. Just because Baldwin may not have realized what happened doesn't mean somebody else didn't have more understanding. I doubt he's fibbing since there are so many witnesses and there's police scrutiny. He's not dumb enough to make stuff up. He may have indeed done the wrong thing according to protocols. I have no idea about that whatsoever. But I see people just assuming stuff about what he's thinking and saying.

Interesting that an actor has to pretend the gun snaps back when firing, but when firing an actual .45 caliber round he didn't know he fired a bullet until an hour and half later when it was shown to him. This is a PERFECT example of why people are told" DO NOT !! " speak to anyone , especially the police ,about a possible case without having your lawyer present .. I can't believe he is even doing this or no one stopped him..... ummm , all this interview is about , is him doing self preservation of his image and ego.... i.e "damage control " ... it's pretty stupid, because now if he is eventually charged with involuntary manslaughter or some similar charge/charges, or even a civil case, everything he is saying in this interview will be admissible in court n can be used against him, and in my opinion from what I heard him say in this interview can be very damning against him.. I mean I don't believe I even heard him apologize, unless I missed it. Even if it were and most likely was an accident and it was myself, I know I'd be overwhelmed with grief and guilt regardless ... that poor woman lost her life , and left a husband and 10 year old son behind... he has got to hold some accountability in this situation because ultimately he was holding the gun and he is a seasoned actor and knows damn well that he should have checked the gun himself and showed everyone around him that it was deemed to be safe even though Dave yelled "cold gun" 3 or 4 times when he handed the gun to Alec... I've seen mostly all of his films and in a lot of them , he has used guns, so he absolutely 💯 should have known better. Ever since Brandon Lee was killed by a live round on the set of his movie "The Crow" ( bad ass movie btw) almost 30 years ago, the industry changed all the safety standards and regulations for every film involving weapons and how they are to be handled... this in my opinion was actually a rookie mistake and the armorer ,Gutierrez (who actually is a rookie) dropped the ball right from the start, so they ALL have to be held accountable in some way for this woman losing her life.

It's called a negligent discharge, and it means you didn't mean to shoot the gun, but you did anyway. Any time you are handed a firearm, you keep your finger off the trigger and point it in a safe direction. That's how easy it is to prevent an injury.

If you're filming the point of view of someone being shot the gun has to aim at or just next to camera. So it's totally understandable that he would explain the positioning to clarify that is was not his own reckless choice. Most people aren't aware that without ear plugs you don't fire repeatedly and hear small noises afterwards. Its fantasy movie gun use verses real time gun use. The question who put the live round in the gun and why was a live round anywhere near the set. There shouldn't have been no live rounds near the set. He comes off really weird in this interview, and I came into it feeling really bad for him. I will say, in terms of him saying the hammer was pulled back and the trigger wasnt pulled, that does make sense to me. When I was 15, my boyfriend found his brother looking at their stepdads new gun. He took it away from his brother and planned on putting it back in the gun safe upstairs, after he finished doing his hair. There was no clip in the gun, because the parents never left any bullets in the gun in the house. My boyfriend went to go finish getting ready for work and was doing his hair when he noticed the gun begin to fall off the shelf(it was behind him, he saw it start to fall in the mirror) he pivoted around instinctively, to catch the gun before it fell to the Floor. He caught it in kind of like a cradle position, right up against his abdomen, by where your spleen is. He felt his hand hit the hammer and bam. The gun had a bullet in the chamber. I do remember people talking about how the person they bought the gun off of had modified it or done something to it. The barrel of the gun was touching his shirt, pressed right up against his abdomen when it went off. He was shocked to say the least. The bullet went in by the spleen and out just a teeny bit above his hipbone, kind of more towards the back. Fortunate for him, he had his spleen removed when he was 11 and he ended up being fine, sore and with charred skin, but fine. The cops came and looked into what he said happened and something about how the casing didn't eject....or something like that, I just remember in the news article about the incident the cops said the evidence backed up what he said about never pulling the trigger. It was terrifying though. So I can see how his hammer story could be what happened and while Alec comes off super....weird and robotic in this interview, I dont see what the point of purposely killing her would be. Accidents happen with guns, it's tragic but even really well trained people can have a gun accident (like my aforementioned teenage boyfriend) but what I'm wondering is why real bullets were on set in the first place. I guess a incredibly negligent person could of mixed up the box of real bullets and the box of fake bullets but I don't get why a real bullet even needed on a movie set.

It CAN'T go off unless it malfunctions. -Alec DIDN'T have an armorer there at the time she was shot. Sounds to me like Alec just wasn't familiar with revolvers. You never pull the hammer back on a revolver unless you intend to fire. Depending on the gun, one slip of the hammer is all it takes to fire. Being familiar with revolvers, I can say the firing mechanisms are not all the same. I can assure you it is possible to fire a single shot from SOME revolvers without pulling the trigger. Some single action revolvers lack a drop safe position. This is the short pull position that prevents a dropped gun from firing when dropped on the hammer. This position should never be considered a "safety position" as it is sometimes referred to because trigger firing on some models is possible, however, it is unlikely to fire from drop safe position. Revolvers that lack this hammer position can perform what is known as a hammer fire. That is when the hammer is pulled partially back and released. If a round is in the chamber it will fire! To fire another round the hammer would need to be pulled fully back to advance the chamber. Always familiarize yourself with every gun individually. Revolvers have very simple mechanisms which are easy to modify with a few rasps of a file, so never assume a revolver operates the same as the last one you held.

In any case, the use of firearms should require the utmost in safety, starting with a competent armorer. When there's a previous accidental discharge on a shoot, you figure they would, at the very least, have the actor look inside the gun and confirm it's completely 'cold'. As a producer/ executive producer, that would have been his responsibility.

Thank you for this explanation. Well said. I thought maybe the weapon wasn't racked properly and it was a lodged bullet causing an unintential discharge....this happened to me once at a range the first time handling a firearm, it jammed, and I immediately put it down to call the range specialists to assist. I don't know much about weapons, but this would make sense. I was also told the first time of shooting, as you stated, to familiarize yourself with your weapon, as each weapon and model are not the same. I was also told whether it is loaded or not, to handle it as loaded. I am not sure what care of weapons were on set. But I agree he wasn't trained properly of how his weapon works, or he didn't pay attention.

Let's be clear about what did and didn't happen, there's plenty to suspect of Baldwin's actions, and I think it'll get worse for him as facts come out. No need to invent accusations as well.

@@durtyragoux I agree with you. Doesnt change my earlier opion that if i was shooting and independent film with a shiny new iphone and i shot two people. I would not be running around free. Id have a lot to answer for and it wouldnt be an NBC production. Not even really blaming the guy for negligence. Im just weighing in on his preferential treatment.

@@dimis2140 And he admitted himself in the interview what a big difference there is in the recoil when a bullet leaves the gun, vs. when it's an "Alec" (dummy)-round. So he knows how to fake recoil thanks to his training...but wants us to believe he didn't know for 45 minutes that he sent a ~230grain bullet into someone(s)? Right.

The notion that a live bullet was in the gun didn’t dawn on me till 45 minutes to an hour later is suspicious. There’s no mistaking a live round from a blank. He said it himself. Blanks he needed to create the recoil himself (in part 1) live rounds recoil very strongly. Especially a 45. He would have known immediately

Him saying that it never crossed his mind for 45min that she was shot is just totally unbelievable and can’t possibly be true. He knew about the claims of accidental discharge, says the gun was supposed to be totally empty, hears a deafening bang, she drops and doesn’t suspect something went wrong? That seems pretty unbelievable to me. You don’t shoot someone with a .45 caliber bullet, actually two people and not know it, there is a big impact, blood, etc. It will be an interesting trial, hope it’s televised, the complaints and walkouts being ignored are damning.

The interviewer failed to understand how revolvers (and hanguns in general) work. The hammer strikes the firing pin causing the gun to fire, therefor, the trigger is really just a middle man. You can fire a revolver by just pulling back the hammer and letting it go, which seems to be exactly what happened in this incident. In fact, it's what made those old revolvers infamous; people back then would only load 5 bullets into their six shooters so that the hammer could rest on an empty chamber when holstered, because in rare cases simply bumping the hammer (even when it wasn't cocked back) while it was resting on a round could cause it to fire...
