It's a proprietary blend of polymers and lubricious filler materials. The coatings contain no PTFE. Do you have different compounds for different applications and heat ranges? Our coatings cover a broad spectrum of thickness, strength, friction properties and heat ranges, and are designed to perform in a wide range of applications. Does the skirt length affect the effectiveness of the coating? No What is the recommended variation for the coating thickness? This depends upon your specific application. On piston skirts, we like to say that our "sweet spot" is .001" - .004" radial (.002" - .008" diametric), but we can and have applied .015" or more on the diameter of a piston and achieved the desired results. Does the coating debris affect softer metals? No Does this have thermal benefits or drawbacks not related to cylinder friction? Piston rings conduct heat energy from the piston crown to the cylinder wall. While there are thermal benefits due to reduced friction and improved lubrication, APC stabilizes the piston in the bore so that the rings stay in constant contact with the cylinder wall. The improved ring seal allows heat to be transferred more efficiently. Why is figure 4A off center? Pistons, pumps, compressors, turbo/superchargers and bearings all have shown measurable benefits using APC. We've coated lifter bores and solid lifters, but cannot coat hydraulic or roller lifters unless they are fully disassembled so that we’re only working with the lifter body. How much does it coat

The coating’s “fuzzy” texture is made up of thousands of tiny peaks. As the coating burnishes itself to the ideal fit during the break-in, the peaks that abrade come off in tiny particles. Most of the particles will hang suspended in the oil until the first oil change; larger particles may get trapped by the oil filter. The coating is a proprietary blend of polymers and lubricious filler materials, so the particles also function as a lubricant.
