If I don’t read it, how will I find out if Amanda Waller learns to have a grudging respect for the heroes she tried to outlaw?

I say stop events and let the Individual writers handle their lines without being interrupted by a dumb event every year, let it go for 3 or 5 years for every event make it special

Batman alone should be sufficient to deal with Amanda Waller and her whole operation, why has he never went after her?

You know why I'm not interested in absolute power? I'm just kind of sick of Amanda Waller. She used to be just a government bureaucrat who had the power to make some criminals work for her. Now they're trying to portray her as an evil genius supervillain on the level of Lex Luthor or the Joker. I'm drawing a blank on a Wonder Woman villain at the moment, but you get the idea. It's just confusing to me how and why they made her this way. It feels like a move to get DC Studios on their side for synergy and whatnot.

The story can be traced back to “Super Stalag of Space” LSH by Jim Starlin. He wrapped up that story in an issue.

I'm planning to go balls deep on Absolute Power. The event itself (loss of powers, etc) doesn't sound that interesting to me, but the build up to has been good enough for me to have faith in it.

It feels old because DC did this storyline 38 years ago; it's the Legends crossover all over again. And so, putting Amanda Waller at the center of it is no coincidence. Somebody probably just looked up Waller's first appearance in Legends #2, read that story, and decided that they could just rip off that plot and nobody would notice. Apparently, they even swiped the "Somebody's brainwashing us to turn against the heroes!" part; in Legends, it was Glorious Godfrey, on orders from Darkseid. Tactics like this makes me glad I don't spend money on this junk anymore.

Everyone should have given up on the 'government outlaws superheroes' trope after The Incredibles parodied it 20 years ago.

I watched 2 episodes of Justice League Unlimited, and Lex Luthor was running for president, and at the end of the episode, he had a secret bad guy conversation with Amanda Waller. So I feel like the animated DC Universe already did a storyline where Amanda Waller was the, or a, bad guy, and it was probably better than whatever Mark Waid wrote for Absolute Power.

DC needs to stop trying to get Waller and the Squad over. Seriously. The heroes should have shut her down decades ago.

The only government overreach story of recent years that seemed completely reasonable was Captain America:Civil War and everyone acted like what the government was doing was nuts. When Cap unironically delivers the line “the only hands we can trust are our own”, I was like “who tf wrote this, Nietzsche?” Lmao

I’ve stopped following Marvel and DC so they can run themselves down with all the events they want. I’ll be over here enjoying Transformers and Void Rivals. (And of course manga and manhwa. I’m finally at ch 600 with One Piece. Woohoo! And I’ve officially finished 351 manhwas. I have a spreadsheet. I’m not OCD.)

For the first time in my life, while you were describing that event, I felt the way Normies do toward comics. My God that sounds stupid beyond words. And no one gives a damn about brainiac queen or failsafe, and the last time Amanda Waller was interesting was the new 52. DC has no future. They are just embarrassing themselves at this point.

Unfortunately the big two have distilled their companies to the point where events are a part of their core business model. They do well enough financially where they continue to do them and at an accelerated rate. The thing with events that is sort of confounding is the success rate of the content is very low. The fiscal success is stable for the most part but when you consider that Marvel and DC put their best creators on these books it interesting that they are rarely any good. I’m not talking about Crisis on Infinite Earths or Infinity Gauntlet. I’m talking about event miniseries since House of M. I enjoyed Annihilation, Infinity (Hickman) and Civil War. I can’t really think of anything else that was any good.

I'm skipping. I have no interest. Waller doesn't interest me, the main writer doesn't interest me, a bunch of meaningless tie ins don't interest me....I think one element of this "event" is an attempt to synergies with the Gunnverse, which despite my initial excitement, no longer interests me. It all just seems to be leading to depressing character deconstruction, and I'm just over it. As tight as money is in this economy, I have plenty of other places to spend my money. DC isn't earning it...though DC vs Vampires 2 does sound good.

What if Amanda Waller manipulate files and the evidences that made the girl to have a criminal record. After that Wallace and Wally talked. Wallace calls out on Wally and the Justice League about letting the Suicide Squad do whatever they want. Wallace said if The Girl is a murderer she need a fair trial. Wallace West or Wally West? After Wallace track Harley Quinn down because he put tracker on her, it was reveal Harley Quinn and El Diablo has killed The Girl. Under Amanda Waller’s orders. Really funny People want to give Harley Quinn redemption after that. And that is the moment Wallace is done Listening to “grown ups.” So yeah, Wally West let Harley Quinn and El Diablo kill this girl. And frustrating thing about this *The Girl that Wallace tries to save was never mentioned again in whole Adam Glass’ Teen Titans Run.* The nameless Girl that Adam Glass created is just a plot device. And nothing more. Adam Glass does in fact wasted an opportunity to give Wallace West a Character Arc to differentiate him from Wally and the other Flashes. I would add Info about the Girl, revealing her name, she was normal girl until she got her powers, she cannot her powers and she “accidentally” killed all these people including her family. After the Reveal it compromise Wallace’s Beliefs and Morals, and it Give Wallace West Morality Conflict. And later Wallace believes Damian is right and he agrees to keep Damian’s prison a secret. And rather than Roundhouse stealing Djinn’s Ring and releasing all the prisoners. I would Wallace start putting more criminals in the secret prison. Wallace might go after Amanda Waller. Because Barry Allen admit twice he doesn’t like Damian hanging out with Wallace. Barry thinks Damian is Bad influence to Wallace. Which ironic because Kid Jon Kent is good influence on Damian. Even Wallace learn skills such as Martial Arts and using tracking devices from Damian. I put much thought into this because I care I want Wallace West to be his own man by giving him ironic stories. I read Jarrett Williams’ Speed Force it is not good. Only good thing Jarret Williams wrote was that short story in DC Power 2024 Perch if you reach out or come across seeing Adam Glass ask him why didn’t he think this through. I've posted similar thoughts on here several times: MOST comic events are nothing but quick money grabs that ultimately affect none of the characters involved in it, and they tend to be mostly derivative and repetitive. How many Absolute Venom and Absolute Carnage crossovers can we have? How many storylines can we have where superheroes and/or vigilantes are outlawed? How many storylines where Earth faces a multitude of aliens or trolls or vampires or monsters or robots or whatever? EVENTS are, sadly, part of the comic business model now, at least for the Big Two, so I doubt we'll ever be rid of them.

A story that works well in one character's book becoming a line wide event. I don't even need to name one because you're all thinking of at least one.

Imo it’s not just the repeat, it’s also that nothing will stick, while there is no interaction with the ongoing series, just disruption. So bottom line: people lose two months worth of the ongoing story they really care for, while the event will be blinked out asap.

I'm a relatively new comic reader and I just don't understand why they have to do so many events. Does stuff like absolute power, night terrors, Lazarus planet etc actually have good sales? I can't imagine that anyone cares about events when they do so many and none of them are interesting.

I think this event will perform better than anything from the last 2-4 years. I’m tempted to get it and that makes me feel dirty. Not for the premise but because waid has been very good with worlds finest and the art is nice. I just don’t want to get sucked in to a money sink and have very little faith the main story will be good overall

The problem woth superhero comics is the natural progression of narrative goes along either the Invincible, Spiderman, or Miracle Man pathways. For Invincible, the superhero rises beyond their rank. They move on from being a superhero, and become a larger god-like being. They usually move planets or retire from being an active superhero. For Spider-Man, the superhero is a community vigilabte that is not powerful enough to overpower the law. They are forced to work alongside it, and therefore act as heroes whike evading law enforcement. This is what most heroes aim to be. Finally, we have the Miracle Man route. The superhero remains on earth, but through their strength, wisdom and connections creates a pseudo dystopian-utopia. This is inevitable if superheroes like Superman, Green Lantern etc if people like Wallee try to make them loteral slaves. The problem with superheroes in Marvel and DC comics is that they are by large overpowered. There's no way Superman could ever be taken out by the USA. And with how terribly the USA runs its government and hurts people, it seems that comics just have to ignore the power of people like Superman to change that. You really think after all the shit Superman has been through with government powers he would not be a lot more skeptical of government power? You really think after all the failures of Waller the JLA wouldn't decide to ruin her so she cannot make the Suicide Squad again and waste the loves of prisoners on often ill planned suicide missions?

Was there ever a story about why heroes haven’t stopped Amanda Waller now? What leverage does she have on Batman and Superman?

There has been a long time since the last good run of suicide squad. DC for years has been chasing short term success since the N52 reboot. Their universe is incoherent, lack of fabrics and depth, and too god damn Batman centered. Now they want to convince us Waller is the big bad, I mean GTFO.

The main problem I have is the other side of the coin. They can take out the heroes, but what about the villains? Also after the heroes have been hunted, beaten and captured by the government, why in the world would they continue to be heroes? Think of it, they do all the good stuff for free, never ask money and their reward (not that they usually want it) is to be thrown into some prison? Anyone who would go back to being a hero after that is a masochist. But this is been the standard since Gyrich pulled the Avengers security clearance way back when. But if the writers have no idea of history or what they are doing, I guess it seems fresh to them.

“It doesn’t feel new”, does anything in comics ever feel new anymore? It’s why I love manga so much, it’s all new to me, lots of new world’s & interesting adventures. Currently reading Akame ga Kill and it’s lots of fun, pretty devastating as nearly everyone dies.

Let individual writers have a 60 issue opportunity to create an identity for EACH of JUSTICE LEAGUE characters and other DC properties. Let an “event” occur every 10 years. Obviously, a CRISIS event should happen every 30 years (1st reboot was 30 years: 1955-1985).

Don't care about events. Don't care about Waller. Don't care much for the current continuity after a long slew of wretched comics.

The Justice League is comprised of mostly immigrants. Superman is an alien. WW is not American. Martian Manhunter is an alien. Aquaman is not American. Only Batman and the Flash are white and straight. Technically, Batman could play the bisexual card if he wanted to (he is the 2nd smartest person on Earth, after all). So the JL can get Amanda Waller off their back by using ESGs or whatever that Hollywood is doing, and the media can convince Amanda Waller that she's on the wrong side of history for attacking a group of immigrants.

Even though everything will eventually return to the status quo I guess its all about the how/journey.

I’m not big on depowering superheroes. Why take away what makes the characters interesting.

It’s like, so I might as well begin to put some action in my life. I’ve had every promise broken, there’s anger in my heart. You don’t know what it’s like, you don’t have a clue. What I have been loathing with comics these days is that the medium is boring and the characters are so diluted over the last 2 decades. As long as marvel or DC only focus on BATS and Spidey, we will never get anywhere. Why not focus on Hawkman or Aquaman for a change? Oh that’s right, they don’t sell because writers can’t think outside the box and they lack imagination! Let’s talk DC villains, the Justice League has fought the most powerful enemies over the last 60 years. So why is it that league stories only focus on Darkseid??? Why not Starro or the Demons Three? Batman having a never mentioned before anti Justice League contingency is both hilarious and stupid. If Batman can make up plans for thr League, why can't he do the same for the domestic terrorist problem in Gotham? Amanda Waller needs to use Argus more and not Suicide Squad. I know it feels like a direct Shield and Nick Fury rip off, but i think a secret military force would work for this. Her only big gun would be Amazo if were to do it.
