Dolly actually built Dollywood theme park to create jobs for the same families that made fun of her. She is a unofficially the Patron Saint of Tennessee, and there is not a mean bone in her body.

This woman is such a treasure.....she grew up very poor, and in a very poor area. She has done SO much to bring literacy rates up, high school graduation rates up, and brought employment to the area (ever heard of Dollywood? It wasn't just a publicity thing, she wanted to bring employment opportunities to the area where she grew up). As a matter of fact, education is so important to her, she went on to found the Imagination Library, where kids receive one book per month, totally for free, from the time they're enrolled (most parents enroll the child when they're born) until I believe their 5th birthday. My daughter was enrolled, and felt so special getting her little book every month. Dolly also has a stellar sense of humor. This is one of my favorite quotes by her: "I'm not offended by all of the dumb blonde jokes because I know I'm not dumb … and I also know that I'm not blonde."

Dolly Parton is definitely a national treasure. She gives so much to so many. Shania Twain is quite talented and she is also a "rags to riches" story. She took Nashville by storm in the 90's and shook them up. Check out Any Man of Mine and Who's Bed Has Your Boots Been Under. She won't disappoint.

"A Coat of Many Colors" & "Coalminer's Daughter" both record a time in history -- impoverished mountain people. That was my father's story. He didn't have electricity or indoor plumbing until he was 11, which was well into the 1950s. He ate only beans & cornbread 5 days a week until he moved out. Unfortunately, my dad's family was not musical. But, he had a great childhood, regardless of his poverty.

I remember when I was a teenager, my mama and I lived beside an older man who wore clothes held together with safety pins. He was a millionaire. He had lived through the depression and I guess it had a great effect on him because he was very frugal. Never judge a book by its cover. Ever. A person’s worth is not what they look like.

The song is a true story from her childhood, and it always brings back loving memories of her mother. Dolly writes songs to keep memories alive, and she points to “Coat of Many Colors” as one example, saying “whenever I sing that I just see my whole childhood.” (googled) “Coat of Many Colors”-Dolly Parton (1971) - Library of Congress

One of my fav Dolly songs! I love her story-telling lyrics - so autobiographical. She's such a kind, humble person but never forgot her roots. You should check out *'9 to 5'* - it's a real banger, very upbeat! t's from the film '9 to 5' she starred in with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin - hilarious film with an even better song! FUN FACT: Dolly uses her long nails as 'tempo' when she's writing her songs!

I have loved this song since I was a little girl. All the other kids in their fancy clothes and expensive shoes, and they would die if they knew how much things today cost! And my clothes came from garage sales and resale shops. And from my momma too. Oh yes, my momma made a lot of my things. Tops and skirts and shorts and dresses. And I loved those clothes. I still remember one year when I was in junior high school and all the "popular" girls decided I was a worthy charity case, and that they were going to "help" me be more acceptable to the other kids. And so they invited me to a slumber party. And they had dug out their old clothes that they didn't wear any more, and they squezed me into tight blue jeans and snug tops that I hated, because Dolly wasn't the only one who was generously blessed above the waist. They all walked so ridiculously, taking tiny bouncy steps. I refused. They did makeup on me, which I never cared one whit about and still don't. They paraded me around the house and fussed over me like Meg in Little Women. I put up with their fussing, because I knew they meant well. And when I went back to school in their fancy cast off clothes, do you think the others treated me better? Of couse not! They laughed even harder at me because I was just "strutting about in borrowed feathers" as I once read in a book. I didn't care. I went back to my own clothes, but I did keep a few things the girls had given me. They were sorely dissappointed their efforts to turn me into one of them had failed, but as I said, I knew they meant well. And I endured the teasing and the bullying, because I didn't matter to me. Somewhere along the way, I lost that confidence and that attitude that what others said or thought didn't matter. I wish I had it again.

She is an immense talent and we are all better for not only her wonderful artistry but her example of giving back. Anything Dolly has wanted to do, she’s done. From singing, acting, writing any genre of music she wants, to giving children a chance at literacy by sending out well over 100 million books to kids aged birth-5 years. Dolly is an incredible role model and human being and she’s done it all with grace and dignity despite the barbs people have thrown her way for looking like she does. Pure class!

Since it's Christmas would you react to Dolly's "Mary Did you Know?" She sang it last year on TV for Christmas 2020, and she blew that song out of the water! It's a testament to her talent and voice even after 50 years!!! I don't know any other artist who is still going strong after 50 years and still sounds the same! It's a baffling mystery how gifted she is. I mean who can still sing like that at 74 years old!!!??? I was gobsmacked when I heard her sing this last year. Sometimes, especially after hearing this song sung with a voice that sounds like that of a 20 year old coming out of a 74 year old, I start to believe she is really an angel bc she truly has a supernatural voice and this song proves it. I've been a Dolly fan her whole career and this was the best ever. You have to hear it. Here's the link: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a7BxisJop6fXXZs.html

Love this one. And if ya wanna listen to another country legend diva woman, Reba McEntire, fancy than nights the lights went out in Georgia! Both shockers and fire. Her and dolly both have very unique distinct voices that when they come on the radio or on TV you’re gonna know exactly who it is. Can we people these days so I’m just a like all like little cookie cutters the perfect little bodies and good little artist to do with their label tells them to. These ladies are legends and they were inspired by people like Loretta Lynn who doesn’t call miners daughter that’s similar to coming from a poor background, June Carter Cash so many amazing wonderful country artist the females especially Patsy Cline died too young she was a amazing and her voice was just freakin awesome. I’m 44 but I grew up listening to all kinds of music and I love some old country and old hip-hop and old R&B old school rap old school everything seems like these days people are just little puppets I appreciate independent Artist to do and say and seeing what they want when they want to and what their fans want to hear and not with the man tells them to. These ladies were outspoken and they had contact with they were able to do what they wanted to do. Thanks for doing these
