Hey what's up everyone, johnnythegeek here with a long overview of the Acer Predator Helios 300.

This is going to be an awesome laptop that's an all around work horse of a system.
I wanted to note that the SSD that comes with this is an NVME drive but it's kind of on the slow side for an NVME. I plan on swapping it out with a 256GB 950 Pro.
Looking forward to testing this out. What games for desktop and VR should I play?
I already know I will be playing Overwatch, Rocket League, maybe Titan Fall 2 and Star Trek Bridge Crew on the HTC Vive.

ah, okay for $900 its soo good. right now for price i think i might go with the dell Inspiron 15 7000. gtx 1060 and i7 :/ compared to the predator right now the dell is a better price(almost the same ) but the price right now for the predator is at over 1000 ty for replying

Oscar Garcia if you’re going to get a gaming laptop I recommend getting a 1070 or 1080 at LEAST. The reason being is that they go obsolete very quickly, and you can’t upgrade them like a normal PC. I’ve been looking at the HP Omen X 17t, it’s 1700 for the bundle which comes with a 4k screen, 2tb storage, and a Nividia 1070. Looks great, but you can also go for the 1080 version but it’s a few hundred dollars more.

I only got a laptop for two reasons. One i don't have room for a full desktop, and two i need something portable for school. It's not permanent, just until i can get a bigger place.

I paid $1100 and don’t mind one bit, it’s PERFECT for stacking Gamerscore on the go! Unless you plan on spending $3K on some Alienware or a Razor, which the differences are still minimal, this baby runs ANYTHING on High-ULTRA settings, the Helios is for you! Best Grand you will EVER spend!

You get screws for if you decide to add a secondery 7-9mm drive (which you can install by unscrewing the drive panel on the bottom of the laptop).

Techion there is nothing to laugh about he simply asked a question he could be better at computers than me and you I wasn't looking down on him I was just answering since he asked about it. It's good to expand our knowledge at the end it's better to ask when we have the time than to act like we know everything and regret it later on.

Those additional screws are for mounting the aluminium bracket to the 2.5" drive. Acer recommends it.

The four screws you got were meant to be used for the installation of the hard disc (the current price of the laptop is 1,050$ but with the hard disc it would be 1,135$ still a pretty good deal because its a 2TB hard disc). Please look it up on other reviews for the laptop.

Would I be wrong to say that gaming laptop prices are decreasing? I can't remember a time when a laptop costed $1050($900 on sale holy shit) and performed about as well as a mid range PC. Compared to my estimates of a equivalent custom build budget-ish pc(Including OEM OS and subtracting minor sales BUT not including a monitor ~$800) you only pay about $100-200 extra or without the sale about $250-350. It seems best desktop budget PC option would be to look for a prebuilt with decent CPU, RAM capacity, and room to upgrade at a on-sale price between ~$400(for low-end i5\Ryzen) to ~$500(for higher end i5\i7\Ryzen). Add ~$50 PSU and a mid range GPU ~$200 to end with a beast gaming desktop at around $650-$750. But holy shit does this laptop look tempting.

+R3lik101 thanks for the comment. I want to say that laptop performance when compared to a desktop is getting closer and closer to matching. So the laptop prices are almost the same as the desktop prices and you would have to include the monitor. The only thing that would be more powerful in a desktop is the cpu. So you could say that laptop prices are decreasing or your getting a lot more with what you're paying for.

Thanks so much for this video! I would love to know how long the battery lasts on regular browsing, like facebook and youtube with the screen on full brightness. Also what are the maximum temperatures when it's fully stressed (cpu and gpu) as well as noise levels while gaming. How is the screen btw? Are the colors good and bright?

Locked this up on black friday for $800! Keyboard gets really hot, but that may be my biggest complaint.Otherwise I'm extremely happy, it runs all my steam games well, I generally go for high settings,never ultra.

Games like War Thunder, Killing Floor 2, Arma 3, Squad, Insurgency, maybe Ravenfield, and yea those are the games i enjoy :) Also, can you do a in-depth review of the Predator sense an how the heat and performance (fps) differs from normal, max, and the best custom settings please Also try unreal engine 4 and see how it goes :) thanks :)

This laptop was worth the 1k pricetag. it even maxes out assassins creed origins at 60 fps. the cooling system is rather nice but can get pretty hot when gaming on higher end games. would suggest to anyone.

Definitely. The 1060 is much better then a 1050. You will get 1080p ultra 85+ fps on almost every game. If you get an external monitor you run alot of games at 1440p 60fps.

bang bang het grootste verschil tussen deze Acer en de twee andere laptops die je noemt is de grafische kaart. Als het goed is komt deze Acer met een GTX 1060 (6GB VRAM) voor ~1200€. Deze videokaart is aanzienlijk beter dan de GTX 1050 die in de modellen zitten die jij noemde. Voor €1200 is dat net iets meer of evenveel geld voor een veel betere videokaart! Ik zou als ik jou was nog even afwachten tot deze uitkomt, dat doe ik in elk geval. Als ik dan zeker weet dat de GTX 1060 in de 1200€ versie zit koop ik hem (er komt geloof ik ook een GTX 1050Ti versie, die qua performance tussen de 1050 en 1060 in ligt).

Het hangt er natuurlijk allemaal vooral vanaf waar je het voor wil gebruiken, en hoeveel je eraan uit wil (kunt) geven. Een GTX 1050 is prima voor af en toe gamen en met die modellen (de Lenovo en ROG) heb je ook prima laptops voor die prijzen. Als je wat zwaardere spellen op hogere settings wil kunnen spelen zou ik echter voor een GTX 1060 gaan, mits je het budget (dus waarschijnlijk ~100€ meer) ervoor hebt.

Hey thanks for the suggestion!. I definitely will show adobe premiere performance. Particularly how long it takes to warp stabilize a clip. How long it takes to export a 4k clip and how well it scrubs through 4k footage with an SSD for a scratch disk. I might also do an after effects title render too.

So I have a 144hz monitor that im trying to hook up to this computer but I dont know what cable to use. Any recommondations? HDMI regular cable didn't work for me.

+sdf dsf I'll need to look into that because my GSync monitor uses display port for GSync and 144hz to work. I'll make note of it in the review.

Bad news. Gsync and 144hz did not work. The HDMI only outputs 60hz and the usb c is not thunderbolt. I am contacting the company to try and confirm but I don't think it will do it.
