This episode is brought to you by PATH projects running apparel (pathprojects.com/). PATH makes premium running shorts, baseliners, shirts and hats.
Recently PATH projects won Runner’s World Gear of the Year award for the 2nd time. This time for the Pyrenees hooded running shirt, it’s a shirt that I wear daily too. (pathprojects.com/pyrenees)
Although the gear is developed based on a men’s body type, many women run in this gear as well. For example a men’s XS shirt is a women’s size medium.
Full disclosure, I’m one of the owners of this company. That being said, it’s the only running clothing that I wear. You can find out more at pathprojects.com/

A joy of an interview. A main takeaway was Sally's comments about looking in the mirror and knowing you are the only one who can go after your goals, not waiting for approval.

I loved this podcast. Sally is such an inspiration! Her body is amazing, powerful and shapely legs. I’m sick of people commenting on how women’s bodies should look. The comments Serena Williams gets are just unbelievable. I’m so glad Sally learned to accept her body. This helps other women learn to accept their bodies. My biggest takeaway was the power of the mind. Thank you! I am an older woman who loves running from New Zealand.

I loved how she spoke about embracing the season you are in. As a new mom I constantly was comparing this and that and how is that family able to do all this and I'm overwhelmed with just this. It's taken me a full year to just let it go and just enjoy each day for what it is.

What a great outlook on life. No wonder she has had such a great career. Always so pleasant and cheerful, but this interview gave me a new look. So much gold, but i liked the bit about realising who cares most about the goal and who is the only person that can achieve that. What a tremendous role model for her two kids.

I love her grit, yet her acknowledgment that sometimes it's counterproductive. Sometimes I push harder because I know I can, even if it doesn't help my goals. But most of the time I don't push hard enough. Side note: you should get Beatie Deutsch on to talk about her journey. She has so much to overcome as an orthodox jew - food restrictions, clothing restrictions, days where she can't train... oh, AND she ran Berlin in 2:44 not knowing she had Covid!

Thanks Floris for this interview with the wonderful Sally McRae. Takeaway for me: "How your respond to the challenge/situation is powerful" resonates with me. Agreed, that each experience can be a stepping stone (especially when it doesn't go as planned). Learning to go with and adjust to the unexpected helps us to get better (hopefully 😂) and transcend our perceived limitations. 🙏👌

I think some people are trying to live out their life struggles on the running road. I think running attracts the sporting type, fitness type and the emotional type. I feel like i am the emotional type too cuz i started running in 15 and then more at 16 during a chaotic situation being a teenager, fights drama bad things. Running is a way to build fitness so if you get in a fight you will win, but need strength training. But also emotional challenges with, "am i good enough" i thought i beat the past but now im fighting a new challenge.... Football can be like this also, i seen football players cry in practice. Running is much different than these other sports because its more personal with yourself in a way thats hard to achieve in team sports, due to the time duration and challenges and commitment. Its sometimes a team sport because cross country has a team point system, but really you have to be good the teammates just extend the motivation, commitment or whatever going on inside your brain and emotions and physical body, but its you who has to win the race, or just win at the real challenge in life that is a bigger deal than just beating a PR, Time or another runner. The goal of this type of improvement is bordering spirituality and religion.
