As much as I'd love to return to Football (Soccer) for fun I don't feel like I can risk a re-rupture. I've only just begun to return to the gym. I've had so many injuries from fractured bones to hernias and a bunch in between but this injury was the worst recovery for me, mentally as well as physically. I'm glad that so many are returning to sport and it does feel like a lot of progress has been made in terms of recovery from an Achilles Tendon Rupture. I'd be intrigued as to what ages those in the study were.

@@HOMAX_ I think it depends on the level you were playing at and your age. Have you recently ruptured your tendon? Follow the advice of leg raises to do your best to minimize the calf muscle wasting away. Unfortunately it still needs a lot of work to catch up with your healthy leg. I'm 9 months later from this injury and probably could play again but not risking another 4-5 month injury lay off.

As a parkour athelete who just partial ruptured my Achilles tendon...This video was much appreciated. I was out of parkour for a long time though Ive been very lazy over 3 or 4 months and then just jumped into *what I thought* was basic or slightly intermediate moves. And then boom *whacked in the back of the leg*

Did you get surgery for your partial ruptured Achilles? If so how long did it take before you were able to run.

@@sharodervin4590 I got surgery and luckily for me I guess my body heals fast, I also practiced weight bearing very early and in month 5 I felt confident enough to jog around and be more mobile. I had surgery in May last year and by August I was able to jog fast and run without feeling fragile. I did 25% weight bearing one week, 50 next week, 75 after that and then walking without crutches after one month, I went back on crutches when the boot came off just to make sure everything felt fine for a day or 2.

@@sharodervin4590 My key advice is practice walking very early, even if you are taking most of the weight on the crutches constantly make your foot go through the motion of walking. Even slow motion walking with crutches to practice foot placement while moving and train your foot again through the WHOLE motion of walking from heel to flat feet, to the push off the balls of your feet. Practice the final push so you can walk confident. Also train your slow and medium walk and get someone filming you walk, and going up and down stairs then train yourself to walk up and down stairs slowly and with assistance but correctly and increase your range of movement. Final tips to train the muscles and ligaments: Pick up things with your toes. Rotate your foot often. At night and during sitting periods do things like sitting calf raises, or on your tip toes while sitting and hold it as long as you can. While in bed or sitting slowly tense and contract your calf and lower leg muscles. Squeeze them through different levels of effort 25% 50% 75% 100% etc. hold it for minutes and get the muscle control back. I'm not 100% yet but I have never had better control over contracting or flexing my calves and feeling the surrounding muscles working.
