@@michaelandreipalon359 I'm sorry, but I'm pretty sure a decent chunk of KotOR2 was establishing that a lot of those war crimes *weren't* nessecary, but were Revan trying to slaughter every Jedi in his army who wouldn't follow him to the Dark Side. Considering the players involved, characters who we *know* from their actions cannot be trusted in good faith, I don't think it's fair to call the worst horrors of the Mandolorian War Necessary. I'm not a psychologist, but i actually think ackbar may have had generalized depression or anxiety disorder in legends. He was often despondent and was quick to accept blame for events (remember how depressed he became after he crashed a b-wing variant that he didn't know had been sabotaged?). He even was upset about his performance at the battle of endor. In legends, you have to remember he suffered a decent amount of psychological trauma: he saw the subjugation of his planet, became the slave of Grand Moff tarkin, blamed himself for the losses at endor despite it being a victory, was thrown in prison at one point on an accusation of being an imperial spy, saw his homeworld attacked by world devastators, accepted blame for crashing a b-wing into a building of religious significance to someone (and almost killing Leia) despite it being the result of sabotage, saw his home world attacked again by Daala (imagine if he had lived long enough to see her become head of state), and was constantly undermined by Borsk Fey'lla.
@nickmalachai2227
@nickmalachai2227 21 күн бұрын
I'm not one to armchair diagnose, but it does make sense that his lifelong and repeated trauma seriously affected him. He fought in the Clone Wars, lived under the Empire, lead soldiers to their death in the Galactic Civil War, and fluctuated between being kept from the chance to make a difference in conflicts because of political maneuvering, to feeling personal responsibility at the many losses that only he seemed to know were the fault of his tactical mistakes (very few could recognize when that was). It is a life of hardship, shifting sides, and betrayals stretching from the personal to the galactic, and it shows that he nevertheless took every opportunity he could to make the galaxy a place free from tyranny and oppression. Others may have founded the Rebel Alliance, but Gial Ackbar was the man who lived and breathed the meaning of the Rebellion long before it was ever thought up.

Ackbar is one of my favorites in Legends. I love the scene in Star By Star when the message goes out "Ackbar is Back!!" And they describe cheers going on in some ships for HOURS! I felt that when I first read that book. The Jedi, the Republic, the Empire, the Galaxy was getting wrecked. It was one of the darkest points of the entire franchise at that point. Another memorable moment was during the X-Wing books when Ackbar calls out Wedge for being selfish about wanting to stay a squadron commander. He says that because Wedge was refusing promotions so we're his subordinates, and since his squadron was the best in the NR, the best pilots in the NR weren't being properly promoted.

My favorite admiral Akbar memory is kinda weird.when I was a kid a friend of mine tried to convince me that Star Wars was racist because there's apparently a real-world religion that praises a deity named Akbar and this the scene in Return of the Jedi where the empire tries to bomb Admiral Akbar is a joke about bombing members of that religion. Admiril Ackbar's life was very frenetic. Ending up as Moff Tarkins personal slave gave him an unenviable insight into the Imperial mind set. When the rebellion rescued Ackbar, he put this insight into use against the Empire. When Grand Admiril Thrawn took over the Imperial Remnant, Ackbar was one of Thrawn's most aggressive opponents. Yes, Thrawn won, but Ackbar kept Republic forces in the fight. Without that, the Republic would have folded. Sadly, ill-health robbed Ackbar of many things.

In TLJ's defense, it would have gotten some more redeeming depth by way of side materials and maybe getting a bittersweet nod in, say, Duel of the Fates. Alas, said side material being lackluster, plus The Rise of Skywalker existing, ruined those chances permanently.
@tTaseric
@tTaseric Ай бұрын
The thing about his death in The Last Jedi is that he wasn't a particularly major character in the movies. Even at Endor it was mostly Lando calling the shots (at least, from the audience's perspective). The Force Awakens didn't seem to care to give him any spotlight so The Last Jedi getting rid of him fairly unceremoniously wasn't exactly out of left field. This grand perspective we have of Ackbar comes from Legends material, and I expect casual audiences generally only hold him in high regard because of that one iconic meme line. Even up to now, canon material just doesn't really care about him. I think it would have just been weird for Ackbar to have this grand sendoff in TLJ that only serves to be a culmination of the vague idea we have of Ackbar, not of anything he's actually done in canon. Of course, the ideal solution would have just been to not have Ackbar on the Raddus at all, but TLJ could only play the cards it was dealt.

@@tTaseric While that's a fair point, even with his minimal involvement in the movies themselves, he could have replaced Holdo. Plain and simple. Holdo shouldn't have been there in the first place, and Ackbar could have been in her spot. If the request is to fanboy over Akbar, then my favorite Legend moment for the character is in one of the lackluster X-Wing Books, Isard's Revenge. There's a whole fleet battle going on that the New Republic is loosing, but only slowly, that Akbar is in command of, and the book is giving some attention to Akbar's fleet, including an interdictor, which the book calls out as being something Thrawn used against the New Republic extensively in the preceding few months, since the book takes place in the immediate aftermath of The Last Command. And the book goes directly from how well Thrawn used them to the simple statement. Akbar had learned well from him. Then 2 Victory Star Destroyers drop out of hyperspace in perfect flanking maneuvers and turn the battle entirely in the New Republic's favor on the spot. That, to me, is what a baller Akbar moment looks like- he doesn't have to be as fancy or creative as Thrawn, he just has to learn from every opponent the Rebellion, and later the New Republic have ever faced. Every trick you throw Akbar's way is a trick he'll be using again and again, quite possibly better than you ever managed it.

Besides, there are worlds where great folks like Batman also died anticlimactic ends, after all, like the Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League one parallel with the Arkhamverse.
