Today I got the chance to quickly try out an example of the new Acura NSX - badged as a Honda back home, they have sold less than 100 examples of this striking supercar - so what went wrong? In this first drive I share my impressions of the car and ponder a few of the things people complain about.

Yeah I agree with that unfortunately that's not how commerce works however..products need to make commercial sense against competitors offerings and this doesn't. Acura could have made it way less complicated and sold it for 90-100k and made more profit. They gambled on everyone scrambling to buy a performance hybrid and no one gives a shit. 600hp and 1400kg mid engined , under cutting the R8 and 570 pitched in competitively against the GTR and 911 this could have been relatively successful ...and don't say " I'm glad Honda did it their way " because we will never see another serious Honda performance car now. This was a massive failure.

Driving an original NSX today ( i was 27 when i bought one nearly new in the early 90s) you have to put you mind back to the late 80s/early 90s and compare what else was available at that time. I had just jumped out of a new 300 zx twin turbo( a purchase i regret) and the NSX felt like nothing i had experienced before, It was my first mid engined car and the view out over the wings with those pop up lights was incredible. Today the New NSX has more competition , however it will still be stunning when its 15 years old ,rare and it will still work.

@@lvthud Dude, when it comes to McLaren and its cars, there are few British KZfaqrs and or car journalists that I care to listen to. Amongst the few includes, Tim (Shmee150), James (Mr.JWW) and Chris Harris (Top Gear). There are a few more. But, the man featured in the video you linked me, isn't one of them. And neither do I care to listen to Archie, Sam (Seen Through Glass) and Phil Dixon, in particular. I do like Paul (SOL) and most of his KZfaq contents. But when he teams up with other KZfaqrs such as Archie or Sam, I'm not so interested in those contents. The bottom line is, I do not find that most British folks are fair regarding contents/materials they share surrounding McLaren. Some of them show more interests in foreign brands, anyways. And I'm not saying that is a bad thing. But people do tend to be bias when they favor certain brands. And favoring foreign brands may even lead some to show a lack of appreciation for their own. And I think that's the impression I got from some (if not most) British KZfaqrs that I've listened to. But they aren't alone in that regard. I mean, some Americans act the same way, in regards to their own.

@@mrjohnnyk it's similar in the fact that toyota thought it could make a dent in the market with under whelming numbers. It had no more power and was the same weight as a 458 despite costing double and not offering z dual clutch. Doesn't matter that its built like a switch watch and is a master piece, people who buy hypercars want hyper bragging rights...same with people who buy entry level supercars..If you think numbers don't matter to these buyers ,why are they increasing every year despite being unusably fast? Lexus made us wait for years, promising the lightest most compact engine in production history with the highest BHP per litre for an n/a car, the lightest chassis made of composite material and it never materialised...then all the bullshit started.." it revs too fast for a analog rev counter" which anyone with a super bike knows is garbage...the Carrera gt is a better car and is 8 years older..way cheaper too. Three points: 1) I’ve read that the JB4 tune cranks the HP up to around 700 hp which is a pretty serious upgrade. It also voids the engine warranty and the engine in the NSX costs around $90,000 to replace. 2) The downpipes may be overkill, but one of the criticisms of this car is that it’s too quiet 3) The real issue, at least in the USA, is that the specs for a stock NSX and a stock Corvette C8 are almost identical, but the Vette costs less than half as much as the NSX. The Vette also points out a failing of the NSX: all that tech did not produce an appreciably faster car.

Unlike the similarly hybrid BMW i8, the Acura NSX could not be sold as a flashy scissor door supercar that can seat four. The engineers just never thought to give it those flashy super car qualities. Instead, the Acura NSX engineers built a hybrid supercar that performs similarly to the Audi R8, Aston Martin Vantage, Porsche 911 Turbo, Nissan GT-R Nismo, and McLaren 570S. Honestly though, if I’m paying supercar prices, I want a supercar infotainment system and scissor doors.

The reason the new NSX did not sell well compared to the Nissan R35: the R35 kicked the asses of mainstream supercars when it was introduced and was not overly expensive, the new NSX did not. Plus a Nissan R35 would destroy the new NSX when it comes to tune-ability. Even a lambo has better aftermarket choices. Aftermarket mods for the R35 can range from cat-back exhausts to 1000+ hp builds. Half-mile builds have 2000+ hp and more.
@ELECTRICEYEMEDIA
@ELECTRICEYEMEDIA 2 жыл бұрын
The R35 GT-R isn't even in the same league as the NC1 NSX. One is a sports car the other a hybrid super car. I have owned 2 R35 GT-R that were FBO and tuned, and currently have an NSX also FBO and tuned. No comparison! The R35 GT-R has serious issues with it's VR38DETT and it's GR6 trans when tuned to anything over 600whp. Rods are prone to bending, forks and clips in trans break and the trans is sloppy during daily driving. Also the R35 GT-R still has the dreaded Bell House issues that Nissan never bothered recalling. NSX can make 700hp reliable on stock turbos, stock block and trans without ANY issues.

The way BestMotoring very recently described it, this is a fast, comfortable and user friendly supercar for those who don't have great driving skills. But the package falls apart if driven at or near its limit. The quicker and more intense you drive it, the less impressive it becomes. So not a race weapon, but in everyday situations on pedestrian roads I can see the appeal over a shouty GTR or common 911 if only it were not so expensive. Perfectly suited for the less skilled drivers that buy sports cars.

Goor first impression JayEmm. However it may be good to also drive a stock (unmodified) NSX when you get the opportunity. JB4 definitely voids the engine warranty, although it didn't appear you were driving it in a max-power regime so maybe makes no difference to your impressions. Also, like you mentioned, get one onto some curvy roads. The steering is really different from most vehicles.

By far the best looking car on the market. Will hold its value and will only go up in value as people catch on what a good car it is. It will go onto to be just as expensive as the older nsx once everything goes fully electric. this will still be legal as its got electric motors and an added bonus of a 3.0 twin turbo which can take hybrids down pipe full exhaust jbo4 piggy or hondata can also get up date on gearbox for better gear ratios and higher clamp rate. One of the best cars on the market. When honda do something it's always done correct.

The formula isn't as far from the original car as some people think imo. Yes technology is different but it is with all newer cars as the previous turbo charged M4/M3 review showed. The new NSX offers the mainstream supercar/hypercar package for a cheaper price as the original did all those year ago. The NSX is the alternative thinking man's choice it always has been and still is. It has never sold in big numbers.

A hybrid powertrain should serve two purposes. Either to improve gas mileage, make the car faster, or both. The new NSX fails at both. It doesn’t get great gas mileage and it is not faster than a Nissan GT-R. Honda should have rejected the hybrid and give the NSX a very fast conventional ICE engine with FI.

Honda followed the crowd - making exotic cars too techy, too heavy, over engineered, too expensive- instead of maintaining the original NSX design elements. For $200k (MSRP of NSX) there are better choices. It could have been a $60k corvette killer, and flown out the dealership doors, but Honda execs have no imagination.

I think Honda made 2 crucial mistakes: 1. They tried to aim at 200k-350k Lamborghini, Audi and Ferrari mid range supercars with a Honda/Acura badge when they should have gone for the Corvette, BMW M, 911, AMG GT and Vantage segment of high performance sports cars for 90k-150k 2. They should have kept it simple like the previous NSX with a basic Manual and DCT with the Hybrid trim as an option. They might as well have called it something other than the NSX which, like the Supra, holds immense history and thus; expectation along with it. It should have been a lightweight, simplistic and raw drivers car more so than a heavy, hybridized, AWD Super GT. Both the NSX and MKV Supra are good performers but they strayed too far from their lineage to satisfy the loyal customers who would have paid well over sticker to have them if they did much like the Civic Type-R when it first released. Its shame too cause Lotus seems to have almost remade the original NSX with the Evora.

It definitely looks good but it wasn't worth the money when new. Now depreciated, it is a better buy. Really interested in a full review video if Honda gives you one. However its rivals have also depreciated similar amounts in the UK, the F Type SVR is cheaper for the same year/mileage and the R8 V10 Plus is around the same kind of money but with more miles, so depreciated less even though they made/sold way more of them.

I'm an 1994 MR2 GT-S owner (btw these cars are EXCESSIVELY rare here in our 320 million population United States, only 900 were imported in 94 95, and on top of that, mine is a rare JDM model that is RHD, rare in terms of 99.99999% of cars on public roads are LHD here). I've never been ENTHRALLED with the NSX of that era. I like them a lot and agree it is a flagship car, on par with the RX7, SKyline, and Supra, and 3000 gt vr4 (GTO) of that era. However I also like to point out, bolt on for bolt on, my MR2 short of maybe a top $dollar performance bill, will defeat an NSX in most categories of performance, mine's a 94 GT-S and came with a OEM 3rd gen 3sgte, which is a profound improvement over the 2nd gen 3sgte with a laundry list of upgrades. I get where you're coming from.

Like the choice...have not had a drive in the new one but had a 91 and a 2002 targa in the family... and when doing a final drive in the 02 it was clear that it had gotten old the steering and brakes were a bit wooden and the car is not that fast. having said this when I took my first drive in the 91 it was a revelation that I remember to this day...as far as a corvette as an alternative owned a few of those too..and well just because there is a chevy dealer on every corner doesn't mean that they know how to service the vehicle (personal experience) so while performance loosely might be in the same category my experience is that you get what you pay for ....Our NSXs never broke and the dealers were great the corvettes were always broken the dealers sucked and to frame this properly: on paper the corvette is a great car but just doesn't measure up in the real world...if it were built like a acura or porsche it would be a revelation but it isn't ...Cant say anything about the vette as looks great but might be more of the same...ah the promise.... Love the Acura just wish there was more of a trunk so it wasn't so limited....thanks for the review...

I've driven the original NSX. One was a completely stock NA1 from 1990 and the other a Tracy Sports modified NA2 NSX-T with a 3.5 V6 and individual throttle bodies. Both a week after driving a Ferrari 458. I was surprised on how great the original NSXs are. Even the plain Jane NA1. It compared very favourable with the Ferrari. The NA1 is nowhere near as fast but by god, it was just as much fun! If it weren't for that semi-competition clutch on the Tracy Sports NA2 I'd rave over that one too. The 3.5 had major torque to go with that VTEC scream. I've not driven the latest one but by most accounts, it simply isn't anywhere as fun as the originals. Drift King Tsuchiya had some scathing words for it and I have to agree. It's an American muscle car. All power and little by way of handling finesse (at least at the limit). This video is particularly revealing, the car visibly demonstrating some odd behaviour on the limit : kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fbaBf5ehnb3DYas.html (sub-titled). I have no experience with any NSX at the limit but all those electronics can't be switched off and I can't imagine it being as much fun as the original. But it'd probably be good as a daily and would be excellent in the land where it was born - America. Anyway, love the channel. Keep it up!

I bet people are kicking themselves now for not buying one a year ago. They're only going to keep going up and pass their MSRP's now that the NC1 is discontinued. It will be like the first generation car that could go as high as $300K in a few years. Only 2,800 total were made world wide from 2017-2021. How many Huracan, Aventador, 911, 570S, 600LT, 720S etc. were made? You can throw a rock where I live and it would hit several McLarens a few Huracans, a couple of 911's and some Ferrari's as well LOL
