Alistair Campbell is far from my favourite person in the world but he is right to call out these smug rats. Im not even a Labour man and I think the accusation that Gordon Brown received an unbalanced pillorying from the Murdoch press is absolutely accurate. The line that 'you can give it but not take it' is absolutely true for Boulton. As for McKenzie- he personifies all the arrogance, bigotry and outright slime that is Britains right wing tabloid press.

Campbell's claim is that Britain is a 'progressive country'. When the public service cuts and tax rises start to bite they're going to have to pay for that folly. The notion that a Rainbow Coalition could oversee this painful process is laughable; Clegg is clearly just holding out on the Tories for a better deal.

Adam Boulton works for news international as a reporter, the reporter has at least a professional duty to be impartial; Boultons uncontrolled rage at the prospect that Cameron might not be PM produced red mist in Boutlon and revealed very clearly News Internationals line on this election- it could have been in support of Labour as it was in 97 but Murdoch decided otherwise. The question is: should news international have this level of influence?
@WORLD8NSH5KNIGHT111 жыл бұрын

I'm a life long labour voter but where was campbell's evidence of illegal broadcast bias there really wasn't any it was rather pathetic, we won't win again if we revert to our whiny loser perspective. Even I can see a labour candidate saying brown is the worst Prime Minister in UK history is most clearly a story. When you lose it is rather better to be a little more dignified than this, we seem to be in denial about why we lost.

Oh I could watch Sky's terrible Fox-lite journalists cry alllllllllll day long. @willstokes123 The difference is that the BBC is a state controlled and publicly funded body; so not unnaturally it and the vast majority of its staff ideologically favour large government and we're legally obliged to pay for it (although I haven't paid my license fee for the past 6 years(. We also know that its been officially mandated to promote multiculturalism.

you just see, Campbell is in a different intellectual league than this lot. It's true the whole media was very much against Brown by the end, even the BBC. although I dont see that as BBC bias, you'll always see the influence of other news stories on the views and opinions of those on it, and on what they consider news. but that's the system we have, and it does swing both ways.

He made the best of a bad situation
@mhl83967 жыл бұрын
What situation? Him being prime minister, or as chancellor, leaving the counties' finances unprepared for a crash?
@Judewilkinsonjfk7 жыл бұрын
MHL83 the crash was inevitable, and you cannot name me one country which prepared for a crash which not one economist predicted. His emergency spending decision avoided a crisis equivalent to the Great Depression.
@mhl83967 жыл бұрын
I agree the crash was inevitable, but Gordon had borrowed us up to the eyeballs before the crash. Whilst we agree the crash was inevitable, he had declared that he had abolished boom and bust, so I can only imagine in his deluded brain, he did not believe that. With this proclamation he felt he was able to base the countries' finances on a constantly growing economy. Something that you and I, and anyone else with half a brain cell realises can't happen.
@Judewilkinsonjfk7 жыл бұрын
MHL83 you realised the economic establishment, e.g. Wall Street, Adam Smith institute, etc, proclaimed that they had found the solution to boom and bust economics? This wasn't an issue with Gordon Brown, it was with the neoliberal establishment. Again he borrowed BECAUSE OF THE CRASH which he did not cause, in order to avoid the destruction of the economy. His failure was to take the banks under stronger regulation after 2007/8. The borrowing was entirely necessary to avoid a major crisis.

So Boulton claimed Sky News was not biased against Gordon Brown and uses Kelvin MacKenzie as a talking head to support him?
