Every year, Adam Savage speaks at Maker Faire Bay Area. This year was a particularly touching talk about the importance of sharing your work, your process, your story.

I've loved Adam since I was like 7 watching myth busters and he still serves as a inspiration to me to keep on trying new things.

This is a topic I've really cared about for a while, an issue whose future implications I think many underestimate. Seeing someone who is such an idol to many spread the message to an accepting crowd was an amazing moment.

This was great! I walked up to the stage just at the end of this so I missed most of it; glad I watched the part I didn't see in person. Thanks Adam

I'd like to share a lot of the spare parts and electronic junk I've amassed! Otherwise it's going to the landfill and that makes me sad. I should contact my local maker-space, see if they have any interest.

Adam, I've been told by so many people that I share too much and that I let people take advantage of me. I constantly have to explain that people aren't taking advantage of me, they're learning from me. I obtained a majority of my knowledge through experiments and trial-and-error. Experience is sometimes (if not most of the time) better than reading from a book. To do is to learn. So if you like to learn then why not teach?

Lovely sentiments...but we live in a world dominated by intellectual property law (something calling itself art is not necessarily excluded from the notion of trade secrets). This great for lawyers and big business, but horrible for anyone who is creative and wants to be able to eat.
