I need to take the cooler off to put in new o rings. I can do that without draining the oil can't l? Oil should all be in the oil pan l think.
@AgileWoodsman Жыл бұрын
If I remember right, I didn't drain my oil. But have a pan handy just in case 🤣

how do you know your oil cooler isn't packed full off rust an sediment? i've read all the sediment from the engine falls down into that thing and wrecks it and it doesnt work anymore
@AgileWoodsman Жыл бұрын
When I pulled the lines off a bunch of clean fluid came out. Plus maybe 2 years ago I did the oil seals on it and cleaned it out good. If there is that much sediment there are other issues anyway. Then yeah, I'd pull it off and clean it out.

So do you have to drain out the coolant as well to replace the oil cooler o rings???
@AgileWoodsman Жыл бұрын
I don't think I did. I just unbolted it and slipped the new rings on....I'm pretty sure. haha. Try that.

I just pulled the oil cooler on my 3vze to reseal it and change the hoses. I drained the coolant and 2 gallons came out. I replaced 2 gallons plus a little more. Ran the engine up to temp, turned on front and rear heater and burped the system until no bubbles came out. Probably idled for 10 to 20 minutes but l didn't keep track of time. The front heat is blowing hot but rear is blowing cold. I even elevated the front on ramps but still blowing cold. Did l not do it long enough? Any hints?

Man, that's odd that the rear isn't working. It really had no reason to drain at all. OK so a few things. Of course burping is important, so it sounds like you did that correctly. So the question becomes, is hot water getting back there? Maybe when everything is hot you can crawl underneath and feel those lines that go up into the cab where the rear heater is. Feel if they are hot. I wonder if the valve is stuck. Also are you sure it has been working recently before this work?

Go to my website and look on the resources page. There are a few specialized parts suppers there. One of em will have it in stock.

Not sure what the story is with my 95 but someone in the past removed all the oil cooler stuff and just screwed on another oil filter. Ever heard of someone doing that? Lol
@AgileWoodsman Жыл бұрын
What? Haha. No, never heard of that!! I'd be tempted to change that back. I wonder how they capped off the collant lines?
@HardEarnedBacon Жыл бұрын
@@AgileWoodsman Next time I'm under there I'll look at it more closely and see what else they did. It's definitely an old crappy oil filter in its place though haha.

@@HardEarnedBacon That just blows my mind. The shit people come up with 🤣

@@AgileWoodsman some trucks didn't come with the oil cooler, some rust out and they replace it with an oil filter instead of another cooler. I don't think you can buy those OEM coolers anymore, have to find one at a junk yard that isn't fukt. i've heard the oil coolers only came on tow package trucks or 4x4s. something like that

@Schlomo Shekelstein Huh yeah, I had no idea. Toyota did strange things sometimes, even year by year. Thanks for the info! Being in a rust free area I tend not to run into some of these issues. Appreciate it!
