Again,nice work Mark. I don't know if you write your own copy but at a minimum you have the ability to clearly explain concepts some might find tough to understand. Thanks.

@edhade You are correct for the Nikon flashes - it's more on the side. The Canon 580EXII sensor is on the front. Thanks for your clarification!

@pwdc hi pwdc I will try to answer some of your questions. 1. If the cable is TTL compatible (has all the pins) the metering will not be affected as the sensor will see the diminished output from the pre flash and tell the flash in the soft box to increase its output accordingly. Same for the wireless system used in TTL mode. Be aware that if the output is marginal for the unmodified light, the flash in the softbox might not be able to properly expose since the soft box steals about 1 to 2 stops

@davidw64us1964 hey David, I have the Flex mini system, Pocket wizard build 2 types of Mini systems, 1 for Nikon and the other for Canon. if you shoot with a Canon Body and use Canon Flashes, the Flex mini system for Canon will work for your 5d 380 combo, and the best thing about it is you can also use the flex system as a trigger for your shutter. Pw have a cable you can buy with a re-release function too. If you shoot using Ai Servo, the pre-release keeps the shutter half pressed before fire.

I was just typing out an email to ask these very questions! Thanks Mark! Don't know if it will be in part 2, but hopefully you will talk about mounting softboxes to speedlites with speedrings? Thanks again for the great videos!

@lalaig The t3i has the commander flash feature, but the t2i do not have this ability... That was one of the upgrades between the 2. The t3i will work w/ TTL metering, another option (cheaper) are the Pixel Kings, they allow full metering and HSS, basically all the features you would have if it was mounted to the camera

Yongnuo flash and trigger system are so affordable now that you can get three Yongnuo YN600EX-RT II Speedlites and the Yongnuo YN-E3-RT Transmitter for the price of one Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT II . Now that s a real bargain and yes, the Yongnuo YN600EX-RT II Speedlites and the Yongnuo YN-E3-RT Transmitter are E-TTL compatible with Canon cameras.

I guess I have a few questions :-) I shoot with Sony equipment. Yes I hate the proprietary stuff Sony makes U do! 1. If you are using a light box, and using a cable or TTL wireless system, will the lightbox effect the metering of the camera and flash, maybe underexposing the shot? 2. Should you always specify the Zoom if using a light box, to fill the surface area of the box? 3.If you use the flash from the camera to signal, dont you gain benefit this way by then having a 2 light system?

The light sensor on my Nikon SB900 is on the front of the flash. What possible good would there be to putting the sensor on the side? If an engineer designed something like that, they should be fired on the spot and never allowed near a drawing board again. Adorama TV, thank you for the awesome videos!!!

these are great. But I would like to request a video on the mechanics of how metering is done with multiple flashes. That is, which flashes send pre-flash for metering and how ratio's are handled. I cannot find a clear explanation of the exact way the camera is metering in these multiple flash scenarios.

there should be a way to figure out the amout of light we need without these very expensive light meters also I'd like to point out for other poor ppl like me there is a radio trigger called pixel king allow the flash to work in Auto mode as well and not very expensive like the pocket wizards keep the good work

@ashkibala1 You wouldn't get that bokeh with a 18-55 on f/9. It's not happening. It's because he was using a long range of zoom.

why dont u just turn around camera 180degree and it will see ur flash
@thany3
@thany3 12 жыл бұрын
Ok, so in vertical mode the external flash didn't see the camera flash triggering? Hold your camera the other way - rotate it 180 degrees. There's two ways of shooting vertically. This is a little bit of a "DOH", I must say.
@jasonbodden8816
@jasonbodden8816 5 жыл бұрын
Nothing to do with a "DOH" moment. Like I said to someone else, your grip needs to be as comfortable as possible when you shoot or your framing and composition can be off. For a lot of people, turning the camera the other way just feels weird and unnatural. You really think Mark doesn't know you can do that? You people are hilarious.

@pwdc cont If the shots appear under or over exposed, do one or a combination of the following -- use flash exposure compensation (check your manual), move the light closer or farther from subject, adjust your aperture and ISO. TTL is great but has limitations and you as the photographer have work around them. 2. Setting the zoom manually is usually a good thing since u would not want any 'hot spots' (bright spot of light) in the soft box. you can still use TTL with manual zoom in most flashes.

For most people, turning the camera the opposite way and holding it like that feels weird and unnatural. Your grip needs to be as comfortable as possible. Besides, radio triggers are the way to go anyhow.
