How great are ADV motorcycles?They are perfect for our great nation of Canada! They seem to be the perfect middle ground for our terrain. RyanF9 starts up a conversation about that subject on his latest MotoVlog.

The cruisers piss off the sport bike riders, the sportbike riders are "hooligans" according to the cruiser guys. ADV Riders are just out to have a good time.

Dunno. I just got an ADV, and it's bringing out the hooligan in me more than my sportbike did. I grew up doing motocross, and while I'm too old to be doing that anymore, I have created my own lanes on an ADV bike just to bypass cagers through corners.

Love the ADV. I love the ability to just hop on my Tiger and pick a direction. Today I will ride north...turn here or there and not matter that the black top turns in to wash board gravel or even cow path at some point. You can end up in some cool places that you normally may never see.

I love your enthusiasm, I grew up in south eastern MA, USA and watched a lot of Canadian Pro Hockey. I used to think Canada was about Hockey in the winter and cold air. And farming in the summer. Years later I realize it's much more than that. Next adventure trip I plan to ride through the Canadian Rockies. Many American rush through them to get to Alaska. I plan to take it easy and ride through Idaho then up to Canada and explore the mountains there.

I just purchased my first Adv, AT Adv. Sport manual. Love it! Now I feel I have the best of both worlds, a "lazy boy" '08 GoldWing and the Africa Twin. My first bike, and the begining of my motorcycle life, a chinese Formula Nexus 150cc scooter 3 years ago. Then jumped to 1800 cc. But now this AT, I totaly agree that its the best all rounder and I will enjoy it greatly as a daily driver and for my adventures around Costa Rica and who knows, a trip to Canada ehh. 👍😉

I have to say I love the adventure bike class as a whole, you get comfortably for the distance, most get pretty great gas mileage unlike bigger cruisers that get worse milage than my car. Power is decent compared to all motorcycles. The off road capabilities open up so many different trails and places to ride, a wide variety of accessories and bags, boxes, and cases are available. I just made the switch from a ZX-6R to a F800GS, I miss the power but I'm way happier with all the benefits I gained.

Canadians are up there with the Japanese when it comes to respect for other others and fine manners. I have been to Canada twice this summer from New Jersey. In Québec and New Brunswick the dirt roads seem never-ending. The Trans-Canada highway is road touring paradise. And then there is the Cabot Trail, which I’m convinced is the result of divine creation.

Ryan, I agree with you 1000%. I live in BC and I have been wanting to go and visit many places that have accessible only by gravel road but since I have had a street bike, I didn't want to trash it by riding it on the dirt. I understand that one can ride any bike anywhere, but it's good to have a rugged bike to go on those gravel and forest service roads that we have so much of.

I currently only own a honda rebel but I am planning on buying an adv bike next. My dad also rides and whenever I try to talk about how cool adv bikes are he keeps comparing them to dual sports and how they are all too heavy and not good enough for off road. He just doesn't understand the concept of giving up a little on the dirt and a little on the road we can go so many more places. I want to take a long road trip this summer and he keeps trying to talk me into buying a goldwing rather than a v strom or something like that. How do I convince him that adv bikes can go off road and can also be good on pavement?

Some issues with large ADV bikes like the Vee1000 this video sort of glosses over. Heavy, can give you a workout off road and makes it hard to pick up when you are tired. Does everything and none of it well. The Vee specifically needs $$$ spent on it to make it even viable off road. And of course some are better than others.

Thinking of the Strom for my next bike. Generally I prefer a 17" wheel but watching your vid might change my mind. Any thoughts about the imminent release of the new version? Any foibles to iron out?
@FortNine
@FortNine 7 жыл бұрын
You'd be surprised how sharp the 19" front is on the pavement. Especially if you keep the factory radials on there, I don't think you'll be disappointed in the corners. As for the new version, there really isn't much to iron out. I gather they softened the off-idle throttle response (the V-Strom loves to lurch off the clutch) and the initial bite on the brakes. But neither of those things bothered me that much to begin with. Just make sure you get a post-2014 bike. That was the big redesign year, and it was a totally different bike before then. ~RyanF9
