I was sitting at my desk and took a break to have some coffee, this video came up as a choice, I am an avid motorcyclist (2015 Indian Roadmaster) but I never rode an adventure style bike. By the time your video was over I subscribed, liked and called my local Kawasaki dealer. He had a 2016 leftover klr650 and I bought it over the phone!!!! You have inspired me now what do I say to my girlfriend lolol.

Longrider that's awesome man. How do you like the bike?
@longrider9551
@longrider9551 7 жыл бұрын
There is some really special about this bike, it isnt fast, doesnt handle great but it is beauty in simplicity. If you ever owned a jeep you would understand. lol. It can go anywhere , fun to get dirty , if you are a wanderer like me its perfect. You can take it apart to fix with 3 tools and there are so many accessories for it because it has not changed that much in 25 years

Longrider that's true man. I'd like a pre 08 myself. I have a Suzuki dr350 right now. I have owned a KLX650C. Similar to yours, but more oriented for dirt.

I was in the navy stationed in Coronado, CA in the summer of 1993 when I first saw a KLR 650. I immediately connected to it feeling like this kind of bike can do ANYTHING. I think that frame of mind goes back to the 80s as a teenager getting one of, if not the first mountain bike produced, the Murry Baja, a cross between a BMX and a ten speed road bike- genius concept. Though, I never got around to getting a KLR. Bought my 1st road bike, a Suzuki Intruder in 1999 and sold it in 2003 to buy the Harley Road King I still have today. But I always thought about the possibilities of the KLR 650. Hooked up with a friend in 2015 who was trailering his KTM 250 XC-W. Weird, but cool orange bike. Had never seen one before. He clued me in on KTMs, his appreciation of them and I was hooked on that too. I morphed my desire for a KLR 650 into the performance of the KTM dirt bikes and settled on learning off roading on a cherry used 2012 KTM 500 EXC- a racing dirt bike with blinkers, lol. A lot of bike to learn on, and still learning on it, but I love it. It's my mental version of a cross between a KLR 650 and a dirt bike- street legal, a larger displacement, but relatively light and loaded with power. Love the bike, but wouldn't have had the experiences I've had with it had I not been struck by the concept of the KLR 650. Great bike.

I just clicked 100 times to see the rest of this adventure! I'm ready for more! I know I'm not your average sub, but I could watch 4 hours of this straight and not get enough. It's also helping me understand what to expect on my big bike with gear. So far I know that I won't be doing sand... and I know that my panniers need to be quick release so i can drop them at camp.

Your feelings of a motorcycle being an uncontrolled animal was spot on. I felt those exact feelings not just two years ago after having my G650GS delivered to my work. It took me a week before I felt comfortable enough to ride it the 17 miles to my home.

I’m an Englishman living in Australia. I was lucky enough to drive through Utah on an east to west road trip and instantly fell in love with it. Stayed overnight at Moab. Very similar to a lot of the landscape that we have here down under so I’m happy. About to purchase my first KLR. Love your channel. ATB Jason.

Hearing you breathe heavy into your helmet reminds me of times I have done the same thing. I have also been exhausted miles away from finishing the difficult (at least for me) riding. The last time, it was loose rocks instead of the sand you faced. As a newer off-road rider on an old, heavy KLR650 I applaud your efforts. As you know... it's the hard rides that you remember!

Another great video! Your videos gave me moto fever & a flood of great memories. In 1994 I bought my new XR650L and we were riding with a Kawasaki KLR650 at night in heavy sand over the woops I could see the other XR’s headlight in my mirror upright and light over the sandy bumps and the Kawasaki was having a hard time the front end looked heavy. I sympathized with the kLR rider cuz I had just sold my 91 Yamaha XT 600 which was the most roadworthy off-roader I’ve ever owned. I sold my XR650L a few years back to finish a hard tail chopper. Recently I got a Hawk 250 because it’s a cheap way to get back exploring off & on roads. my 89 heritage gets a lot of farm roads here in Vt so the Hawk lightened that strain on the old hog

Ahhh, close encounters with deer Tyler! I had bought my first bike ever late last Fall (a KLR). My first big ADV was this June as we rode out to the Canadian Rockies. About an hour from home a deer ran out and hit my front tire, I crashed on the hwy at 115km/hr. Massively lucky as I walked away from the crash. Deer...a real factor. Glad your bud didn't get clipped!

When I go dualsporting on my Multistrada, there is always nervous tension and many pucker situations offroad. When I go dualsporting on my CRF230F, all stress is gone and I'm just ready for fun. Knowing I have all the extra safety margin of a dirt bike offroad makes all the difference in the world.

new rider here, you mentioned where's the adventure, that my friend is the essence of a good time. I've had many safe outings with no story to tell, the best trips are when you wonder if you'll make it back and that's an adventure. very first ride on new xt250, wife not to comfortable i ride quads not two wheelers, i intended a short safe ride to set her at ease,,,, got lost, stuck in deep sand, had to wade in lake to avoid heat stroke, left light on bike killed battery, walked 3 hours through woods when mud covered jeep emerged from middle of nowhere, it was my wife and said "have you had enough adventure for one day"

I vividly remember the first (and only) time I rode in deep sand. It was in Little Sahara, Oklahoma. It's an experience to say the least. I've never ridden a unicycle but I can't imaging the feeling would be much different, shifting your weight from side to side trying to maintain some semblance of balance. Fun, but unforgiving.

I usually love sandy stuff on the smaller bikes, and even on the KLR. However when it's loaded down it's an entirely different story and I paid dearly for it! Very humbling to eat crap over and over again on sand, that's for sure :)

Quite the ride from UTAH. We're not doing the typical trip... we are going mostly offroad from Cochrane Alberta, (canada) to Hyder Ak... to go check out Salmon glacier. We will be using forestry roads and stuff we couldn't find on maps but is on google earth... It'll be an adventure for sure! Maybe join us next time! ( we are also very likely to go to Utah sometime, your videos should be endorsed by "Travel Utah"

I plan on doing an Iron Butt and riding through Zion is on the map. Looks beautiful! Another amazing video!

Iron Butts and National Parks don't go super well together because reaching that goal in the time limit usually means a necessity for high speed roads. I'd go through Zion (and some other cool places) without a time constraint... you just gotta enjoy it! :D

So true! Frustration is temporary though... at the moment I was hating life, but looking back it was something that really pushed me and that I weirdly enjoyed :)

Totally know what your saying. Had a trip a couple of years ago that was mostly hating life at the time and though I did push through and come to appreciate the experience I also learned that we all have different risk assessment mentalities and ideas of enjoyment when riding. And that it is important to make sure your group members have a similar Idea of what the ride is going to be in order to maximize enjoyment for all which is the purpose right. I learned in that trip to make sure that in my future trips I would be as informed as possible as to what kind of trip it was going to be and that my risk assessment mentality is just as important as any others in the group and choosing to ignore it is at the potential of my own peril. Especially as I get older lol.

What an interesting adventure. I'd love to do the same, except for the sand part. That would be way too stressful for me. To go through a short, less than one mile, stretch of sand is one thing, but what you went through is too much for me to handle. Barry

Great video! If you practice sand for a week, it changes from horrible to thrilling & fun. The slower you go .. The more sand punishes you. It is counter intuitive. Keep up the inspiring vids.

I love those Utah roads, hard to beat them anywhere in the country. That sand is brutal, I am not very good at riding in it, but I do know how fatiguing it can be at slow speeds. Eager to see the rest of the ride.

Man I can ride in sand all day and love it on a smaller bike... but I've never had a big loaded-down bike in the stuff, and it was really REALLY a lot harder than I ever thought it would be!

+eveRide ADV I had my CB500x in sand a couple of times, much less technical than some of that stuff. First time was on factory street tires, major pucker factor the first few moments. But I have kept it upright so far to date.

Great flick... Being from St George myself, I know a bunch of that area. Central Utah though... nope. It would be nice to get GPS coordinates or a map DL of what some of those other dirt roads are. Thanks for posting!
