I’m an arborist. I dont have this pen but I do have the travelers company brass, and this thing has been kicked, struck by 30lb tree limbs, dropped from a 40 ft canopy and still writes great. Just short of going through a wood chipper, brass will hold up!

I own a Kaweco AL Sport "stone washed" in black (fine nib) and I quite enjoy it. Yes, you can toss it in a bag or put in the pocket and be worry free. It's the sturdiest pen I have ever owned and I do not hesitate to take it with me everywhere. It's indestructible. The tiny Bock nib got better over time. Clearly, the best writing experience is on Tomoe River paper... the pen glides very well. When using other paper brands (Clairefontaine, Rhodia, etc.) the feedback may be significant for some writers... Overall, a good addition to everyone's collection and clearly one of the best companion when travelling. On a separate note... keep up the good work with these videos.

I like the fountain pen reviews by people with "bad" handwriting because it makes me feel better about my own handwriting which isn't as beautiful as I would wish - I'm working on it --- and also because it shows everyone that you don't have to have nice handwriting to enjoy using your pens. Just use them! No matter what your handwriting looks like.

This was a very nice video; I've owned two of the (plastic) Kaweco Sports, and one Kaweco Brass Sport, and enjoy them immensely. I do not travel much, but I do try to get out into a nearby forest to hammock-hike (in 2020, when things shut down, I spent 38 nights in the forest, 3 with company, and 35 solo). I love the sturdiness of the Kaweco Brass Sport, and will not take my Pelikans into the forest, for fear of breaking or losing them. Your suggestion of using the case the Kaweco comes in to carry spare ink and a syringe is excellent, and I will now carry spare ink and syringe in my backpack with me. So happy to see a new vid from you. I have a Kaweco AL Sport F in Rose Gold. The converter is truly microscopic 🧐 but I just love the pen. Its just so fun to use and to carry in your hand. Thanks for the tip on those cartridge plugs. I have some fpens that depend on cartridges like the MB Boheme and the Starwalker. I feel guilty buying plastic cartridges so I reuse the ink cartridges by injecting ink into them. But preparing a bunch of them beforehand would be great! Please do post your travel vids. @catwhisperer9114 жыл бұрын
@@adventuredenali regarding the Lamy 2K, I was also very nervous about ordering it. I don't think there has ever been a fountain pen that has achieved such a diverse, sometimes polar opposite set of opinions. The thing that got me over my reluctance and motivated me to take a chance on the pen was the opinions of the reviewers that I personally respect. They were right, the pen is marvelous and a joy to write with. I ordered the fine nib because I was looking for an EDC pen so it had to be able to handle cheaper paper. It does. The beauty is, on fountain pen friendly paper, such as Rhodia, it makes even dull inks look good. If and when you should decide you would like to take a chance on the pen, shop around, don't pay full price for it. Look for it at around $175 or less with free shipping of course. You could get it from Germany for around $125 + $10 shipping but right now they wouldn't be able to ship it to the States due to Covid-19.

@@catwhisperer911 I've heard one of the major issues with the Lamy 2K is its Nib variance. Would you recommend purchasing it from an authorized seller for the warranty?
@catwhisperer9114 жыл бұрын
@@m9taname228 I am under the impression that all Lamy 2000s include a 3 year limited warranty. To be sure I'd ask the seller before you purchase.
@americanojoel4 жыл бұрын
@@m9taname228 I don't know about variance w/ Lamy 2K's, but I can vouch for them. I have a Kaweco Sport, Kaweco Liliput, the Pilot Vanishing Point, and finally, my Lord of the Pens, my trusty Lamy 2000. If I ever lose it, I will NOT hesitate to spend the $200 on another one. It is a dream to write with. Compared to the Kawecos I have, the "feedback" on a Lamy is non-existent. It glides and somehow the ink magically comes out and it makes writing a joy. I use it daily to take many pages of notes as part of my job in Government Relations. My favorite part about the Lamy 2K is the old school plunger reservoir. No cartridges, no converters, just pull ink right from a bottle into the pen. Literally ZERO waste. And just to settle the nerves of the folks who are feeling the need to comment on my comment, YES, the nib is finicky in the way it must be held perfectly flush to the paper....the notorious "sweet spot". I would add that the pen still writes when not in that sweet spot, but certainly not as well as when you do line up the sweet spot perfectly, and after a bit of writing with the pen, it becomes second nature. Every fountain pen lover should treat themselves to a Lamy 2K. A bit expensive (for me) to be a "travel" pen (that's what the Kaweco's are for!), but Lord, for every day occupational use, give me my Lamy 2K!

Wonderfully enthusiastic (& energetic) presentation, Alicia. Thus far, I only possess vintage Kaweco's (hurrah !! I hear you say) - an original Dia & a 3A-SM - they're pretty much full size writing instruments, & in truth, I'd never really considered any of the 'Sport' range - having hands the size of shovels - until now. I've just ordered two Aluminium models, ostensibly for my own pocket notebooks, & I am looking forward to taking receipt of same. Why the sudden sea change to the more diminutive ? OdE is thre answer - As I am sure you're aware, he has an extensive arsenal of Kaweco scribes - in which, the 'Sport' models seem to predominate; watching his videos over a considerable period has (finally) converted me to take the plunge - his (own) enthusiasm, is, for want of a better expression, infectious (tho' I'm not sure such a remark would be well received, currently). I tend to watch all of his videos - primarily because he seems to be a straightforward, yet unassuming man; there's a 'quietness' to his diatribe - & even my son has commented that he appears to be a, "Nice guy". I would concur. I hope you continue to enjoy that Kaweco for many years to come -Thank you :)

I believe the “AL” in “AL Sport” stands for aluminum. As this is brass, this is not an “AL Sport” but the “Sport Brass”

Your hair is so cute! I’ve been thinking about the travel company brass pen. I wanna use the pen loop and make a necklace so i can look like a geek haha. But yes the brass sport feels substantial and I love the patina is builds. The only cons for me are the small ink size as you mentioned but also the pen clip is a bit sketchy and often slips off. So watch out when you clip it onto your nice leather notebook!!
@adventuredenali4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I’ll keep an eye on the clip, so far it’s stuck well on there. I love the pen necklace idea. You should do it! Embrace the pen geek, haha!

Hello fellow Tucsonan!! I also have the kaweco brass and I have beat it to heck and back! I’m actually having some issues with the cap sleeve coming loose but it doesn’t make it unusable at all! Fun fact though, kaweco sells nibs you can switch out on the sport models if you ever wanted to size up or down! I have fun switching mine up and they just screw right on.
@adventuredenali4 жыл бұрын
Susan Rushing hello Tucsonan! :D I didn’t realize that you could buy a nib unit! I was under the impression you had to buy the nib and grip section as a whole, which I then just assumed might make it a little tricky to find.

Great review. Thanks! Just ordered one for myself, which as an artist I will be using for drawing and sketching in addition to writing. I plan on experimenting with some different size nibs. Question- what type/brand of cloth do you have in your tin and what do you use it for mainly? Cleaning ink from the nibs/vials?

Ancient copper is one of my favorites. Right behind Apache sunset. Although it looks like a crime scene whenever you spill or get some on your fingers!

@@adventuredenali when i change inks at work, specifically the ancient copper, i have to reassure my co-workers i didn't just slice my hand off or something haha. And (super nerd moment) i love matching the inks with the color of my pens. If you like super hefty, heavier pens, check out the Karas Kustoms Ink fountain pen. That + Ancient Copper = perfection!

Hey! :) I absolutely love watching your videos!! I love how quirky you are! I'm actually going to be buying a fountain pen now, and I'm considering Twisbi or Kaweco. I used to be into them during highschool, but I don't really know why I strayed away.. which one would you recommend? Also, Fine or Medium?? 💕
@adventuredenali4 жыл бұрын
Oooh excellent!!! So, twsbi is incredibly solid. Such a great pen, and of all the twsbi I have owned, they’ve all been a solid work horse. I love their nibs, and the carrying capacity. However, I’ve always struggled with the size and design of the pen. It’s well made and very durable, but doesn’t have the charm like this Kaweco sport has. That being said, I’ve had many Kaweco pens and the inconsistency of writing is a real bummer. I’d suggest the twsbi first - because I don’t think you can go wrong! Maybe after a little, try out a Kaweco too! XD As for the nib size, it depends on how big you write. Are you a tiny writer? Do you write in cursive or print? I think fine is generally a good place to start and often is a good size for most people. But, it is really personal and unfortunately it’s hard to know until you try it. (Mediums will tend to be smoother naturally, as they put down a bit more ink.)

I've heard about the inconsistency of kaweco nibs, but I've never experienced that. I don't have any metal sports, just plastic ones (I'm hunting for a vintage piston filler ...), but I have a Supra and a Lilliput, in brass and copper respectively; and the nibs are great. The use of nibs from various manufacturers would certainly explain the inconsistency. In general, they are not perfect pens, but for what they are intended for; essentially what you described as your travel pen, I think there's nothing better on the market. As for the stoppers that ODE showed, they are an excellent idea; something I've been looking for for some time now. Another solution that I found on the internet, and that I'm looking to test, is to cut a cartridge in half, and glue a rubber sac in it, like a "bulb filler" system, to increase the ink capacity. Awesome video, as always (=
@Cortesevasive4 жыл бұрын
do you use other fp brands ? , because sure its better than ballpoint , but compared to other brands kaweco is bad
@adventuredenali4 жыл бұрын
Nelson F. Whoa, I love the idea of gluing on a rubber sac! I have plenty, maybe I could experiment.
@NelsonFJ4 жыл бұрын
@@adventuredenali The idea is interesting. I'm studying it a little better, so that I don't make a inky mess q= . What kind of adhesive do you think would be best for fixing the rubber sac ?.if you experiment, please share the results.
@adventuredenali4 жыл бұрын
Nelson F. Absolutely! And likewise! I have a glue that is used to glue the rubber sacs onto the nib unit, so that might be a good place to start. I don’t know what kind of glue it is, bought it specifically for vintage pen restoration.

1. Noodler's makes reusable cartridges with screw-on tops. They only fit on the Ahab, Neponset, and Triple Tail. A nice option if you happen to have one of those pens. 2. I'm disappointed in the body of my plastic Kaweco Sport, which seems kinda cheesy. But I am quite pleased with the BB nib. Despite its many negative reviews.
