Hi everyone,
Emerson’s sublime teachings on resilience and adversity are the subject of this second class. Pain is our teacher, guide, and informant; hardship creates our character and forms the foundation of all that we do. As Emerson teaches, “Whilst he sits on the cushion of advantages, he goes to sleep. When he is pushed, tormented, defeated, he has a chance to learn something.” Being game for your own challenges, realizing you’re equal to the tasks life sets before you, is enormously empowering. Knowledge is the antidote to fear, Emerson tells us. But why is this so? And how does this affect how we confront our obstacles? This critical question is the focus of our second session.
Please enjoy this excerpt from the second lesson from Mark Matousek's new course "Nonconformity, Contradiction & Getting Real".
Lessons 1 & 2 are available now on-demand. It's not too late to catch up and join us live for the rest of this wonderful course. We hope to see you there.
Love,
Caroline

Sometimes you don’t emerge intact. I live in chronic severe pain. And I have for nearly 20 years. Every day I force myself to work on opioids and I can barely function. Grief is not shallow. This in itself is a shallow statement. Just because this guy experienced many losses doesn’t mean he is an expert in human grief. Grief is a complex human experience. I spend most of my life in bed outside of work. I can assure you there are no pay offs for spending life in bed. Health is everything.

If you are up for it I suggest checking out Pain free you on youtube, Dan Buglios channel. I have lived in chronic pain too, and have found a way out with his methods. Understanding that chronic pain can come as a result of trauma and a hypervigillant nervous system that is always perceiving danger. The way out is by learning how to help your body and yourself feel safe again
