People in Turkey use Facebook a lot. here it can be easy for you to communicate with expatriate tourists. I am not a bursa. I live in Ankara. but if you need help i can do research. Facebook groups can be. By doing research, you can meet people who can help you better. with people who have experienced it.

Nilufer area is a fairly new neighborhood with newly built large flats and big shopping malls, grocery stores etc. public transportation is excellent with many different options like metro, buses, taxis, shared taxis and minibuses that are called dolmus. You have a healthy budget for a rental property. I hope this helps. Good luck!

I laughed and reminisced about my childhood back home when she talked about people overdressing in warm weather. I remember when I first came to the US in sixth grade, I’d wear thick sweaters on warmer days and kids would question why I did so. I still remember the baffled looks on their faces when I told them it was to protect me from getting sick 😁

I lived in Qatar for four years, taeching nursing students. It was very hot and a bit isolated but I loved the experience, especially taeching marvelous students, meeting people from all over the world, and living in the middle East. I am now 67 and single so I would not go to Turkey to wrk. However, after 7 days visiting Istanbul, I would happily move to and live in Turkey. A rich culture, more "developed or civilzed than a brand-new, culturally young country like Qatar which is too hot. Istanbul is fascinating, people are friendly, and there are lots of bookstores, the indication of civilization in my view.

Boy are you spot on about the people! Believe me I've faced the same issues with them being of Turkish heritage! You didn't say it in a negative way but they're all like that and it's quite annoying! I have dealt with it constantly in my own family but I immediately let them know that they're totally wrong and not to meddle with how I do things! To know their place and I set the boundaries! I tell them I've always done things as I have and never had a problem and that I'm not going to change my ways because they're freaking out that I'm having ice cream in April or that I'm not wearing 8 layers everytime there is a beautiful cool breeze! That I don't wear a teaahirt under my shirt or that I don't wear sweaters! They also love to annoy me about my cola habit. When they say I'll die if kidney failure in 6 months I tell them then I should have died ages ago! The problem is everybody head there is filled with old, outdated and totally disproven myths like cold will make you sick, instilled in them by old foggies who lived a hundred years ago! I think the term they use there to describe such people (& themselves is cobweb mentality!) They have tunnel vision! Other annoying myths they have are that it is imperative to stuff yourself with breakfast the moment you wake up and wash it down with five cups of bitter hot tea! Also that you should eat fruit after a meal which is actually quite bad for you! I've actually had arguments about stuff like this and you can talk till blue in the face and mits of them won't let the facts get in the way of their false myths! It really gets old after awhile! That's why I set the boundaries immediately! I tell them I don't want to hear it! I'm a big boy and I know what to do! But when they still see you as a "boy" as my aunt described me how can you convinced them otherwise about their myths? I don't like the ugly habit of people there just dropping in uninvited and invading my space either!

update (January 7, 2022): dollar to lira hit 1 to 17 early last month (dec 2021). late dec 2021 it dropped back to 1 to 10, now january 2022 it is approaching 1 to 14 again. it will just continue going back up again because of bad fiscal policies. it DOES NOT PAY TO WORK HERE ON THE LIRA ANYMORE. EDIT: rent prices and home purchase prices have sky rocketed. Sad-but-true: once they see your skin color, if you're european white, you WILL be paying more from whatever the normal price is. I have been taken advantage of more than I care to admit. If you are looking for a place to stay, have a Turkish friend go in WITHOUT you to get the price. Then if you're interested, you can view the apartment/home. They are desperate here. Food, gasoline/benzine, natural gas, electricity, water, necessary goods have all gone through the roof (think Venezuela). Proceed with caution.

Cecile forgot to mention that you can't find pork and pork products in Adana and for those who love to have bacon for breakfast it's horrible. As for safety 5 years ago it was safer, now it's worse. Yes, people learn English at schools but if you ask a shop assistant in a supermarket about anything you won't get any reply, same about public transportation. Only waiters in some cafes and restaurants speak English but not everywhere. So it's really difficult for an English-speaking expat to communicate here.

Hi Maria, you're right! I completely forgot about pork! I have yet to find a butcher here who sells it, though it can be found in Istanbul. That said, wild boar is hunted in this area and if you're willing to invest in a large amount and then freeze it, one can "order" oneself pork that way. And I agree, most service-industry employees here don't speak English, probably because there are few tourists here compared to other regions of Turkey.
