MOTION: THIS HOUSE BELIEVES THAT EFFECTIVE CLIMATE CHANGE ACTION REQUIRES GRASSROOT-LED DEMOCRATIC PARTICIPATION
This motion aimed to provoke critical thinking and discussion on the relationship between democracy and climate change action, exploring the strengths and limitations of democratic participation in addressing one of the most pressing global challenges of our time.
The Advocacy Workshop Debate emphasized the use of value and policy approaches given that advocacy is people-centered and aimed at shifting legislation. This allowed the participants to come up with policies that will enable The Youth Cafe and its partners to develop programs and initiatives aimed at empowering youths across Kenya.
The specific objectives were to:
Ascertain the analytical skills of debaters;
Encourage research among the debaters on democracy and climate action;
Encourage policy formulation among the debaters;
Encourage public speaking and participation in policy making and governance processes.
