An eVTOL Company With Big Plans For The Future
ANN correspondent Rex Alexander took a beat to check in with Joby Aviation, getting the news from Head of Government Affairs Greg Bowles on how things are going for the nascent eVTOL industry.
Joby is faced with a complex soup of government regulations at home and abroad, helping to carve out a regulatory niche for aircraft that straddle multiple categories of aeronautical novelty at the same time - Joby’s aircraft sports 6 battery-powered tiltrotors and seating for 4, a never-before-seen recipe in the world of commercial aviation. As such they’re writing the book as they go, working with the Air Force’s AFWERX program and FAA to establish just what the industry needs ahead of planned commercial service in 2025.
Joby’s already moving along at full speed, working on their initial production aircraft and searching for more talent to help. Bowles specifically cites the firm’s need for maintainers, pilots, and more as the Advanced Air Mobility market coalesces into a brand new form of aviation.
Aero-TV is a production of the Internationally syndicated Aero-News Network. Seen worldwide by hundreds of thousands of aviators and aviation adherents, ANN's Aero-TV has produced well over 5000 aviation and feature programs, including over 2500 episodes of our daily aviation news program, AIRBORNE UNLIMITED, currently hosted by Holland Lee. how do people think these aircraft will perform in bad weather? The idea of air taxi rides from Baltimore to DC or from Manhattan to JFK sounds nice. But if it's not reliable and flights get cancelled because of fog or high winds nobody will be able to rely on it. I think it needs to be safer than existing helicopters.

Joby is trying to do everything on house, bad choice. Too much expertise they have to master. On the other hand Embraer who has certified more than 25 planes are having their (Eve) com components been made by world specialists: rotors by a Japanese cia, propellers by a French cia, wings by a Swiss cia. Seats from France, batteries English cia. etc. Etc . That is why Eve has 30% of the Evetol pre-orders on the market.
