The World Chess Championship 2013 was a match between reigning world champion Viswanathan Anand and challenger Magnus Carlsen, to determine the 2013 World Chess Champion. It was held from 9 to 22 November 2013 in Chennai, India, under the auspices of FIDE (the World Chess Federation).
Carlsen won the match 6½-3½ after ten of the twelve scheduled games, becoming the new world chess champion. This was heralded by Garry Kasparov and others as the start of a new era in chess, with Carlsen being the first champion to have developed his game in the age of super-strong chess computers.

I can criticize Anand the way that can criticize Peyton Manning... when they don't play your best and I can see that they're not playing their best, it doesn't mean that I can play better but that I know that they can but they're not. In retrospect, it's clear now that Anand was just bypassed by someone better and not just someone better, but this was the beginning of his being bypassed by the younger generation. He did challenge Magnus again, but he lost again and if memory serves, is usually on the bottom half of the tournament rankings when playing against an elite crowd.

If I had to pick my own row, I'd say Magnus, Kasparov, Karpov, Anand, Tal and of course Agadmator to cast the games because without the agadmator casting, the games are not that enjoyable.

THE Boris Gelfand is sexiest of them all. He sips all the wine that is offered to him so that he can appear red and plumpy contrary to his pale counterparts while posing for a photograph. He has also mastered the art of lurking in the darkness and is completely undetectable to the untrained eye. Lord Gelfand is wild and can appear out of nowhere surprising everyone around. Such personality is bound to be famous and popular. 😉 Also he plays quality chess!

I considered all but five players on the photo, but I would consider the first row of six players to be the strongesr, including Kasparov, Karpov, Alekhine, Fischer and Lasker, I think this is without a doubt. The game is really beyond my understanding of chess, I have to admit, Carlsen really seemed to squeeze water out of stone and showed why he is really the strongest!

15 of the top of my head. I am a noob who knows the basics very well, so I consider this an achievement. Also, I think Capablanca's logic and Tal's unpredictability would make that team very versatile and with great chances. But Kasparov, Karpov, Lasker and Fisher in one team? I shudder.

Row 1 held the official world championship for 87 out of the 134 years of its existence! Kasparov (15 years), Karpov (10), Alekhine (19), Fischer (3), Lasker (27), Botvinnik (13). And the guy with the shortest reign, Fischer, was perhaps more dominant at his peak than any other player in history, wiping out his opponents 12-0 in the quarters and semis of the Candidates. My money is on Row 1 in most formats, with all due respect to Rows 2 and 6 (also unbelievably loaded).

it's easy to hold the crown for a long time, if nobody compels you to play. Lasker and Alekhine both sidestepped the best players and only played opponents that could raise the money. I am not saying these players were bad but I would take Fisher, Tal and Smyslov over lasker, steinitz and alekhine any day of the week... Not saying row 1 isn't impressive just not very impressed with duration of holding a championship. Botvinik never one a single match that he defended but got the usual tie goes to the champion bs. Keres Tal and Smyslov were all arguably better than him or at least not so much worse that they couldn't have held the championship for a longer time with a more equitable system. The world championship match is exciting, but, while all the world champions were great, most of the time somebody else out there was better.

I can't believe Anand first missed b3 then later missed b4 followed by rook to c6 as those moves seemed to be the obvious intuitive choice even to a weaker player like myself as I was already assuming those moves were coming next in the positions before you mentioned anything but there is alot of pressure in these championship matches especially when coming off a loss but still surprising.

Got 16/36. As for strongest, I would go with the first row. It contains arguably the three best players of all time. Don't see any other row matching that.
