Thanks for showing all of the ISI stuff. I started in ISI (when it was ISIA) and wondered if they would still have a record of my tests from the 90s. I didn’t realize they could get lost and I don’t know where my forms are! 😮 There used to be more ISI programs and it’s a shame so few rinks have it anymore. I also love that you showed your skater inside of the old Sky Rink. I always wondered what that place looked like. I only ever skated at the new one.

1st. I love these primer videos. My previous coaches haven't been well versed of MITF. I've read through USFS rules and have found many discrepancies in what is thought accurate by coaches and in some cases have cost me valuable test time.

I am so glad that you find my videos helpful! I had a similar experience when I returned to skating at age 40. It wasn't until I began coaching myself that I realized all the intricacies of testing! That's why working with a PSA Rated coach is so important.

Q: Can a single skater just take Free skate test to compete in singles or must the skater have the skating skills test the same? Thanks!

Skating Skills tests are a prerequisite to the Singles Free Skate tests. So, before a skater can take a Singles test, they must have already passed the Skating Skills test of the same level.

Thank you for your videos! They're so informative. Quick question: If one judge gives you a "Pass," one judge gives you an "Honors," and one judge gives you a "Distinction," what would the entire test be designed as? Would it be the middle one, passing with Honors, or just a pass?

You're very welcome! That is an excellent question! According to Rule 5038: In order to pass a moves in the field test, a candidate must have received a “pass total” or a “pass” for the entire test from a majority of the judges. In the case where there is no majority test result among the panel, the second highest result among the panel is awarded (i.e. if results are “pass,” “pass with honors,” and “pass with distinction,” the skater is awarded “pass with honors”). I hope that helps!

I think 5 yrs seems to be an accurate estimate for mitf. But for free-skate, it might take a lifetime (for me) but it is a long game for sure.

Thanks for the in-depth video! Do you know if the adult track levels will also be renamed from July this year? The new naming seems to conflict with the current grandfathering chart. For example, I believe Pre-Juvenile is equivalent to Adult Silver, but Pre-Juvenile will be renamed to Pre-Bronze?

The adult levels are staying as is for now.

@Katrina yes, it does seem weird that the adult level name now sounds higher than the standard level name. I wonder how they will rectify this… 🤔

One is Standard Track the other is Adult. The adult committee has not voiced plans to rename the adult levels.

Q: I was wondering if there's Adult Figure Tests, bronze, sliver, and gold. If so, where is it in the rulebook because I don't see it in the current rulebook.

None of the Figures tests have been included in the rule book for some time now. You can still test them though! Figures tests must be tested in person (no virtual tests). It can be challenging to find a test session that offers Figures as there are fewer and fewer judges that have the credentials to mark those tests. You can find the test sheets here: www.usfigureskating.org/members-only/skater-journey/testing/forms - you must be logged into your USFS account. Scroll down to the bottom of the page. Expand Figures and scroll to the bottom again.
