Today I'm testing out a product called the Air Fort, which is an inflatable fort that can almost entirely fill a bedroom. Is it worth the $50 price tag?

Here's a friendly suggestion.....Whenever you need to fit a "seemingly" large cloth item into a "seemingly" small storage bag, you'll be able to make the item as small as possible by rolling it rather than folding it. (This concept works for getting lots of clothes into suitcases, too. )

What's funny is that we used to build these exact things out of bedsheets and box fans ALL THE TIME in the early 70's when we were kids. We had multiple box fans so we could build many interesting inflatable tents with that stuff. It looks like someone out there used to do that when they were kids too, and decided to market it. It seems that me and my friends were on the rare side when it came to playing in these inflatable bedsheet/box fan tents because I've never met anyone else who knew what I'm talking about when I bring them up nowadays, and so many people are seeing products like this and thinking that it's a new thing. All your kids need is a couple very light sets of bedsheets and some strong box fans and they're golden.

classic case of " am i the only one " born in 88 and did the same as a kid, but the sheets were so heavy / fan so shitty we used couch cushions / chairs as supports. The fan was used to keep it cool more or less, not to inflate the tent area. This is really cool imo and is leaps and bounds ahead of the collapsible cube style play huts.

Exactly! I work with elementary kids, and they don't have spatial awareness beyond what they can build with Legos. They also don't have much creativity and struggle with coming up with their own ideas. Toy companies have to stop doing all the work for kids and let them explore the world without a plan or a picture to copy,

I used to do this all the time as a kid with big sheets. (Not for children you can't trust around the fan.) The tricky part is attaching it to the fan. If it's an old sheet, you can bend small paperclips into S-hooks, poke them through the edge of the sheet and hook them around the edge of the fan grill. Or, if the sheet is big enough, you can just turn the fan on and put a few inches worth of the sheet edge around the backside edge of the fan, tuck the two corners under the bottom, and the suction will hold it in place. Then you just have to take some heavy objects inside to pin down the sheet edges to the floor. It's a great way to stay cool in a hot house.

Would be interested to see if it stayed inflated at a lower fan setting. Also if you could cinch the intake around a smaller (quieter) fan.
@kovary77
@kovary77 18 күн бұрын
It can stay inflated, but it's just not as floaty and less responsive to the entrance and exit air changes. The back doesn't have a cinch (not sure if you could add one), but you can tuck the straps into the back of the fan if it's not a square box fan. Basically, anything other than the recommendations and your experience may not be as ideal, but could still semi-functional for you.

Only vaguely related, but I remember in junior high going to a "space camp" (very low budget) where we had to use these flimsy sheets of laminated plastic to build a fort that looked like this, with a fan inflating the walls. The "mission" was to build this fort to protect us from an incoming solar flare. The team I was on was the only one to fail building the fort in the time given. As my teammates understandably were grumpy, I instead clutched at my throat and mimicked suffocating, then dying on the moon 😂 (yes, we were on the "moon" for this solar flare). In hindsight, I should've mimicked something like vampires being torched by the sun, like in Blade, lol. One of the counselors saw me and I expected her to tell me to stop being immature. Instead, she praised my sportsmanship for how I handled the loss. 😅

We built a big one of these out of vinyl tarps & fans back in the 80s.

We use to do that with a sheet as kids and let one rip in the fan so everyone was trapped 😂

This is fabulous! Great for imaginative play because it can be anything-a castle, a cave, a hideout, whatever-and clean up is just stuffing it back in its carry bag. Kids can take toys inside easily or just make a hideout for reading books. Someone who does in-home childcare could have one for special playtime and not have to worry about the amount of storage space they need for it. The haters can go mumble in their corners until they find something new to bitch about. No one is requiring them to buy one. They could have just kept their nasty comments to themselves and moved on.

I bought 2 small tents years ago for my grandchildren. They love the tents, but they are a bit of a pain to set up (and guess who gets to set them up?). I love how quick the set up is of this fort, but I’d need two smaller ones, because they would each want their own space. Unfortunately, my house ain’t that big.

this is really fun, and even though I am a 48 year old adult woman with no children or grandchildren at all, I would like this is my living room. My inner child really liked this video

I have a cheaper solution. Now this will only work if you have floor a/c vents. Take a flat sheet but it over the ac vent and go in it. It will keep you cool and be fun

You know what that looks nice. I might want to get one. I sleep with the fan on LOL. That would be nice here in the fan inside a little fort especially with that dog bed you had LOL. Nice and comfortable. You probably take nice naps, read or whatever

The price point is interesting because as you said it is expensive for the amount of material being used, but at the same time I don't really think it's bad in terms of the design and experience.

I could see around $30 maybe. Add cost of a box fan, average price $25 so about $75+. Does it still work on lower speeds? I wonder if okay outside with outdoor extension.
