Today we have a look at the 6th edition of the Airfix catalogue from 1969.
This Airfix scale model Catalog is over 50 years old.

I love these videos, a true trip down memory lane. I remember I was nine the year this catalogue came out and both the B17 and B24 I was so lucky I got both... I was the happiest kid ever.

Still got my original copy although the cover has long gone,out of the full catalogue there is only 30 kits I didn't build,mostly the passenger ships and some of the cars but still have all the 1/72 figures from back then but loved the vid and great seeing the memories.😂

Thanks for doing these post mate reminds me a fun times a life time ago, and yes l love the ocean liners if you spend some time and do a bit more work with them they look great ,things like funnel rigging ,mask laders and black out windows they go to another level .and l subscribed .

The latest issue of Airfix Magazine shown, with that proto-Phantom, is April 1968. That should place production of this catalogue well before 1969, perhaps late summer of 1968. I'm still puzzled at seeing the Aer Lingus F-27 Friendship that late into the decade, which would put it as a very rare exception in packaging. I would have thought the Braathens S. A. F. E. version, which appears in the next catalogue, would have been introduced about 1965, more or less when the shift of he Heron from Jersey Airways to Shell Petroleum Company gave the opportunity for a brand new Roy Cross boxtop artwork. Also, gotta love the fake Queen Elizabeth 2 box, when the definitive illustration was obviously still in the making. Airfix would repeat the trick in the next edition, where the SRN4 Hovercraft "boxtop artwork" is an obvious picture of the real thing, waiting for Mr. Cross to finish his masterful drawing. Very, very interesting modelling archeology, thanks!

I was born this year... nice to see what my poor bloody parents were living with! Keep on with these - heard the word 'operation' - so hope all goes well old boy. Nb - I am sure the box art for the Shorts Stirling here was the same as the kit I got for birthday/Christmas in 1979 so nice nostalgia twinge there too. Take care!

Either the translated edition for the nordic market (translated to Norwegian IIRC) differs, or you skipped many pages. Annoying.

I just went to my archive and dug through a dozen magazine boxes to find my childhood copy of the Norwegian language edition of the - as it turns out - _seventh_ edition of the Airfix catalogue. This was actually what I was trying to avoid, looking for an online scan of it instead. :-) However, the first Google result, from vintage-airfix.com, has the seventh edition on a page called _1969 Catalogue List_ - and I just went by the year, and also skipped ahead in your video, because I knew (having read this catalogue hundreds of times since I was given it in the mid-70es) what I was looking for is on one of the last pages: Betta Bilda. Had I looked at the front cover in your video, I would have noticed that it shows it's the sixth edition, which vintage-airfix.com places under 1968. The layouts of the two editions are similar enough that I thought the few differences were either due to the different language editions or because you had skipped non-model pages. In the seventh edition, page 47 has Betta Bilda (a LEGO-like construction set - and what I was looking for) and New Artist (a paint by number system).
