Background: Prost (post-retirement) was asked by Ron Dennis to come help them improve the McLaren MP4/11. This is followed by an interview of David Coulthard on his impressions about working with Prost at Estoril.

Both are giants in F1. In my opinion, Senna and Prost are each others' missing pieces of the puzzle. In terms of driving, both are (or should have been) complementary. Both approaches to driving are able to get the most out of the car.

Alain Prost was a hell of a setuper and every team manager knew it. In 1996 Jean Todt wanted to hire him to help the evolution of the Ferrari...

Indeed, Jean Todt confirmed this on a RMC radio broadcast a couple of years ago. Prost was even proposed to be Schumacher's teammate to help them win the championchip again.

Senna was faster than Prost, but to me where Prost gains the edge over Senna is his ability to setup the car to gain the absolute most out of it
@maxlefou812 жыл бұрын
@@housesports000 Yes, Senna was faster... on one lap with qualifying tires! Where the driving style of Prost didn't allow him to have the 4 tires at the same temperature. But in races with a full tank and racing tires, Prost was often faster than Senna. The proof is that he often did the best laps in the race! The fact of being a better setuper also allows to have a finer piloting and to feel better his car...

I've read about it in F1 Racing magazine in 2007 and apparently Alain said that the long wheelbase has 'potential' so the team started to go down that route. I would agree with you those were not the best conditions for car evaluation/setup but Prost actually said on several occasions that he very much enjoyed driving in the rain.
