Hey guys, first of all I literally watch all your videos even with multiple children and full time shift worker I appreciate all of your hard graft and love you channels. Which is why I say this... At Low transparency with Low Path tracing causes artifacting in the water at certain angles and distances which can be very distracting like SSR. Only fix is High Transparency setting or disabling path tracing. I'm currently rocking a 4070ti with a 5900x on a X370 board with upto date drivers* 17.10.23* so could be an issue my end but useful to know. High transparency only affects my FPS anywhere from 1-4fps

One thing I have to also remind amid all this, is that I still can't believe the game only cost 49.99 on PC instead of freaking 69.99. And it's not even short game. And it's graphically better than most.

It looks great. Also pülaying on 77 Oled and 4090 maxed out. But for me the top notch still is cp2077. AW2 looks a little bit sterile like in the studio. CP looks lively and dynamic.

My findings with a 5600x, 3080, 32gb @3200mhz cl14. The high fps shown here is definitely partly due to the CPU, as I don't get nearly as high fps with a 5600x. At 1440p Balanced with the optimized RT settings I average 40-45 fps in the forest sections. The alan wake sections perform much better at 60+ consistently. The only way to get ~60fps across the board is to disable path tracing, but actually I find the overall quality of objects to be better looking without path tracing. PT adds a weird smudged look to all objects. Overall I'd say its best to keep PT on while playing as Alan Wake since theres a lot more reflections in those sections and the performance is still good, and disable it for the Saga sections since theres little reflections and you get a big bump in fps.

Following up on this, if anyone finds the game strangely blurry at 1440p, there is a guide out there to modify the ini settings which definitely worked for me. Prior to those changes, the game only looked clear at 1920p and higher.

Wow that was clear to see. Thank you I want a new gpu because my 1080ti does not cut it anymore with these new titles on 4k but even with a 4090 you can not turn everything to the max with RT it will struggle to get 60 fps .... and thats a very expensive card ... thats not normal

Specs: CPU:5950x | MoBo:MSI Godlike | GPU:ASUS TUF-RTX3090-O24G-GAMING | RAM:32GB G.SKILL Trident Z Neo CAS:14 | NVMe | LG C1 4k@120 -- I've played around with the settings a ton and found that the DLSS implementation is probably one of the best so far. Putting it on performance gets you close to 60FPS at 4k with minimal artifacting with full pathtracing everything.

These guides and my own tests are helping me enjoy a mid-40fps experience in Alan Wake 2 with most of the modern bells and whistles and it is incredibly good looking. Amazing stuff.

I have a 4070ti and use the overdrive ray tracing settings on, everything maxed out including path tracing and at 1440p with frame gen am able to achieve around 90fps. Looks absolutely incredible

Frame gen is worth it. Who cares if they're not real frames, it smooth as real 90fps. One good trick to increase RT performance is to lower rasterization settings.

On my i7-13700 and RTX 4080 system, using frame gen I got this running absolutely silky smooth at 1440p with no upscaling needed, just DLAA which gets rid of the blurriness present in even DLSS Quality. Path tracing on high and ray reconstruction on. And the game seems to have some built-in input delay correction, because I barely feel any. I wouldn't recommend frame gen for every game, but here it is done very well

Playing on a 3070 even with DLSS stuck down at performance at 1080p there's just way too many heavy scenes with Saga (particularly when under twilight lighting) that see settings plummet down to 31 fps. Alan's sections run fine though. Benchmarking this game really heavily depends on the scene, with the early game not really being the heaviest by far, despite the amount of foliage.

Is the game really as optimized as everyone is saying? Often there's barely any improvement in FPS after lowering graphics settings. For example, sometimes in Cauldron lake, FPS will linger around 40-50 FPS on native/DLAA 1080p. If I lower it down to Quality 720p, it's still around 40-50, probably a few FPS higher. Tried a few more settings and got kinda similar result. Also, the mirrors are bad even with raytracing and abomination without it. Games from years ago had better reflections. Edit: It's possible that a lot of the bottleneck is due to VRAM shortage. Thanks, Nvidia.

@@sharif47 It's not, the only improvement is disabling RT completely or having a 4000 series GPU with frame generation that will give you 20-60 fps, interpolated from 10-30 at upscaled 4K, from 4060 Ti to 4090. Which is still not the way it's suppose to work, frame generation should interpolate framerate from 60+ to give you the smoothest and most responsive experience. Feels like DF comment sections for this game are filled with shills or naive idiots posting the same comments like "the most beautiful game ever, the best game ever, runs great on my RTX 4090, runs great at 50 fps on low on my PS5 and 840p, blah blah blah".

I'm still amazed how fine people are with having to spend over 1000€ (if you even find a 4080 for less than 1200) to run the game at sub 1440p (DLSS balanced, 835p if what the numbers people usualy posts are correct).

Playing with a 3060ti on a 1440p screen and I really don't mind playing it at 480p upscalled just to get path tracing working because it really does look amazing (as long as you play a bit far from the screen than usual and use a controller, nothing that a console player is not doing already)

I have a 3080, and in no way im getting 112 fps on balanced. I was only able to finish the game with playable fps (near 60) in performance mode, and even then, i was getting a bit choppy in some areas

what cpu? I know for me upgrading from a 8700k to a 7800x3d was a massive boost overall. CPUs matter a lot in the current gen.

You're cranking either the resolution, or graphics settings then. On PS5 equivalent settings (a mix of low and a few mediums) you should definitely be getting good frame rates. It's fairly stable above 60 fps on a 3070 @ 1080p balanced (quality works, but seems to fail on certain scenes - though there is a bug where performance degrades over time, it's possible I could have gone Quality with the hotfix driver installed). If you abandon maxed settings (which aren't gonna look that much better), you should get pretty solid performance unless there's a serious issue with your system.

Which GPU do you have? Did you decide on optimized settings for AMD GPU? I presume mid/high with the denoiser set to low would be the best bet. Only with 1080p60 of course.

The lowest settings in this game look even better than Ultra on TLOU, we thought that game was too realistic(but still the King in facial animations and conveying emotion), but as you said the RR is destroying the subsurface scattering, I finished the game on everything ultra DLSS Perf. i want to replay it again, but imma wait till they launch new game plus

Oof. 3070 ti is a strong ass GPU but vram is what cripples it in basically every scenario. Sad to be 3070 ti owner. I have 6950 XT which is no better at RT but at least it will hold the full textures.

There is a annoying issue when you open a map or go to the mental thing. I have a 5800x3d + 4080 and going well at 60 fps with fg + dlss balanced but after open a map or the other thing fps drops do 20, 30 fps. Until now remedy cannot fix this. What a shame

Best for me with an I7 8700 paired with a 3080 was : PS5 preformance settings with all RT functions on , but on low settings. best compromise for me . seldom below 60 fps never below 55, VRR did the rest.

You'll want to avoid path tracing, but with DLSS and some tweaked settings, you could get some of the raytracing effects at reasonable performance. Depends on your resolution though.

You'll have a more stable experience. Ray reconstruction, as much as it cleans up the 'fizzle' in low light scenarios, still suffers very heavily from the oil-painting look. So even turning on those fancy options introduces their own visual downgrades. The game looks fucking great with the raster options for the most part though, a few low light scenes have some fizzle. But I'd say until RR is a lot more mature, you'd just be choosing a certain set of tradeoffs unless you had powerful enough hardware to run it at a resolution where those effects don't look noticable.

its expected, its even more ready for RT than 3080, what is surprising that non PT mode is better at 3080... i would expect to be the same with 4070... i own 4070 and in CP 2077 the performance is similiar to 3080 performance, expect i can use Dlss 3 frame gen, thats HUGE thing for my experience

Alex you're doing your best to avoid doing a video on how does Alan Wake run on rtx2060. That should have been a top priority, being that it's the minimun requirement, and that there are plethora of options to play around. These videos are all fun, but not really neccessary, as these gpus are a lot stronger than 2060, so it goes without saying that they would run the game without problem. Optimizing this game for the weakest recommended gpu is the real challenge.

To be honest the game is not the technical marvel that they would have us believe, it is plagued by a horrible pop-in in shadows and objects (even at the highest settings) and runs horrible. In Cauldron Lake, for example, with your optimized configuration, even when looking at the sky and with a few trees in sight, the framerate drops absurdly. What's the point of a game that looks great (which, as I said, is not entirely true) if it runs very poorly? It is nothing more than another poorly optimized game like so many that have been coming out these days.

@@Wobbothe3rd Incorrect. Look at the performance jump from a 3090 to a 4090 thats 70 to 80 percent. Then look at the midrange 3060ti to 4060 ti , literally 3 percent improvment. the 4060 and 4070 are really underperforming compared to the previous gen. This isnt an opinion, just pure numbers.

This specific video is about ray tracing which most AMD cards currently struggle with. Even more so with path tracing and even more so without ray reconstruction. The full video talks about AMD cards.

Yes but you need to rely heavily on DLSS (either performance or ultra performance mode). I still think it's worth it as long as you distance a bit more than usual from the monitor and use a controller because fps won't still be that high

Yes but forget about getting near a 60 fps average. If you are fine with 30 fps even path tracing is doable.
