I was in awe to see that Dr Phil is now reaching out to his audience to prepare. We have far too many who make excuses not to. If you cannot afford to buy food, at the very least go pick up food at your local pantry. Don't say I hate beans I won't eat them, I promise you, if you're starving you will gladly eat them to survive. Learn how to properly wash and soak them. It's NOT a matter if "if". Hyperinflation and crop failures are a reality. We have millions more in our country today. You need to prepare.

I just opened a can of bumble bee solid white tuna with a Best Buy date of 2/2024. Now 7/2024. The top of the can, not a pull top can, was slightly bulging. I opened it and it didn’t smell bad but looked like it was more loose than usual. So, I took Alaska Granny’s advice and tossed it in the trash bin. So much for non compromised cans of canned meats lasting long after their Best Buy dates.

Lots of canned meats last years past the date, but not always. You are smart to toss a bulging can. Who knows how the can was stored before you bought it, which could have compromised the contents.

Botulism is not detected by smell or appearance so never risk a bulging can or a popped lid. And botulism is not like regular food poisoning in that it doesn't cause stomach or intestinal issues; your throat closes up and you die.

I have plenty of long-term food storage just in case there is ever some major and long-lasting distuption of the food supply chain or of the world economy. But for a somewhat predictable event that may cause a week of disruptions, such as a forecasted blizzard or heavy rainfall and strong wind that shut down the local power grid or obstruct roads, I would check my pantry and then make a quick shopping trip for non-refrigerated non- frozen ingedients to make no-cook or easy to prepare meals and snacks. Such as instant oatmeal, instant grits, Spam, precooked bacon, sliced bread, peanut butter, jelly, tuna salad packets, crackers, mixed nuts, oranges, apples, bottled protein drinks, instant coffee, herbal teabags, powdered milk, canned mixed veggies and cups of dried ramen soup. I would expect to boil water in a saucepan on my butane stove if the local power grid went down. I would have either oatmeal or grits plus browned Spam slices or precooked bacon plus a piece of fruit and a warm beverage for breakfast. Other meals might be PBJ or tuna sandwiches or ramen soup with canned vegetables. And while I was waiting for the predicted event to happen, I would bake some foods that do not need refrigeration (cuopakes.bronies,cornbread...), fill containers with tap water, do a load of laundry, run the dishwaher, vacumn the floor and do any other housekeeping tasks that use electric power.

As always very excellent advice❤ I recently saw a post of a store sign reminding everyone NOT to steal more then ??? dollars of merch. How sad. Americans have really changed . I began to wonder what is going to happen if all the people take that limit of groceries and other supplies?😳 How empty would the shelves be? Very! How long would stores stay open for paying customers ? Probably closed soon. I definitely don’t want that. Covid was horrible enough for me. 😮‍💨 I am glad I found your lessons a while back. I’ve learned so much from you and I’ve been sharing them. I like that all your lessons are complete so when I share no one is waiting for part #2-10. 😁😅😂 I advise everyone who claim they can’t afford to prep to get what they can from food banks, and use their cash for the instant emergency foods you recommend, and other nessessities, like tp & soap, and NOT to tell anyone what they’ve stored or how much they have. 👍🏻 Many stories coming in from abroad about Europeans going to bed hungry, as prices skyrocket , and people there struggle with their increasing utilities bills make us prep harder Because it’s there I think this hard time will be here to soon. I don’t want anyone in my home going to bed hungry, or thirsty. 🙏🏻🙏🏻 I’ve been trying to learn about home remedies, that actually work, since some of my friends have told me that my old town lost their doctors, because their nearby hospital closed down with their doctors offices and even the er. Now these people and many of them poor young families and senior citizens have to get clear across town for the new hospital someone built. Getting across town is a real challenge for some. I know there are places people can buy their own antibiotics, but one of my sisters is a nurse and she says that’s a really bad idea because no one knows how to self medicate safely, and those meds loose their potential. I prep because I hope and pray I’m always able to provide what my family needs, to fill the tummy’s of those in my home, including my pets. I’m trying to grow veggies in my yard, and I really hope to have egg laying hens some day very soon. I just bought two berry bushes Blackberry and raspberry so we can have sweet fun food for desserts the kind my dear grandmother made us. 🙏🏻 Does anyone have a green thumb I can borrow?

I am on social security. I carpool with neighbors to estate/garage sales. I go straight to the kitchen if the canned food is out of date you can usually get it cheap. I have young neighbors who go to food banks. They only want food easy to cook. I get all the seasonal vegetables and flour. Tell all your family and friends that you will take all their out of date canned goods they want to get rid of . I have built a decent pantry this way

So glad to see you including magnesium, potassium and calcium. Extreme dehydration means we need to replenish thesesupplements and electrolytes. Severe burns also create a need for rehydration and electrolytes. People would do well to research how to treat 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree burns. This will happen much more frequently if we need to resort to using fire for cooking, heat and water purification.

I have a family member that just doesn't take preparing seriously. She has 8 fixing to be 9 people in her household but every time I say something to her about it she just says "I know. I know". Lately, she has been saying that she would just come to my house. I finally had to get painfully blunt with her and tell her that I'm not going to let my kids and grandkids starve to feed you and yours so if you come to my house, expect to leave empty handed. She gets over $1800.00 a month in food assistance but likes to spend it on snacks, 100.00 steaks and 240.00 crab legs. I don't know what else to do to get her to start getting ready. I hope I'm wrong but, I really believe no matter who wins in November, there will be chaos of some kind. Be prepared.

@@AlaskaGranny Surgeries are a definite for me. I just had a double plate and bone graft done on my arm 3 months ago. I keep breaking the plates they put in so they did a double this time. My hip surgeon said I can't wait any longer to get my hip replacement or he doesn't think it will be fixed properly. The ball in the joint collapsed and I'm now an inch shorter on my left side. After the left hip, I still need the right hip, 2 knees and a hysterectomy. I think I will tell her that I'm having to eat some of my preps because my medical bill are coming in and they are high. I wouldn't be lying because I do eat from my preps. Got to keep stuff rotated. Thanks for the idea and all your videos. I love watching them.

It's a nice feeling when you have no more room to stock up. You can then be on auto pilot consuming, rotating and replacing. You've done all you can and can stop worrying because you will get through it. This is the time to practice your creative cooking skills even when you're feeling lazy and can't really cook. That's when the prepared long term storage foods will come in handy. If you get in the habit of cooking a large batch or two of something on the weekend portioning it out for the week and freezing the other portions, you're all set. Some for now and some for later. If something happens in the beginning of the week, you have food. If you didn't get your cooking done, you have leftovers in the freezer. Easy peezy lemon squeezy.
