Every now and again if I'm feeling a bit low or tired or whatever, I return to this clip and it always puts a smile on my face. As Dave said in the clip, "to hear that man play the way he does is a joy." Pure and simple :o)

Albert Lee is a fantastic guitarist! I've seen him live four times, and chatted to him a few times. I first heard of him during a Dave Edmunds TV documentary. He had been called in to play the solo in 'Sweet Little Lisa', and boy did he play that guitar! You just have to see the expressions on the faces of the other musicians to appreciate his incredible skill and tone.

A mate played this to me in 1983 on vinyl. He didn't have to try too hard to "sell" it to me. Like he said, both Dave and Albert are really REALLY going for it, to the extent that they're playing ahead of the beat they're shredding that fast. I eventually got it on CD a few years ago. So pleased to see this footage was made in the studio at the time - a historical document!

From "Born Fighter" an amazing documentary about the recording of Sweet Little Lisa and other tracks that would go on both Edmunds and Lowe solo records. I think Edmunds- a guy who's used to being the hot shot- is completely freaked out by Albert's prowess. His expressions at 3:37 will show. And yes- Huey Lewis and Phil Lynott hanging out in the control room. Lowe- "Listen, you've obviously read my pamphlet on these tracks...."

+Madeleine Hague Saw him last summer with Cindy at the Markham Jazz Festival, and was lucky enough to get a fist bump (he didn't want to shake hands before playing) and a photo with him. I'm surprised I was able to get the words, "Permission to shake the hand of one of my all time musical heroes?" out of my mouth, I was so starstruck. Spoke a little more relaxed after the show, and asked him how Dave was doing. He said he'd last seen him at his 70th birthday party. A quiet, humble guy with a boyish smile. What a treat. I'll remember that night forever.

I met Albert at an Irish club-around mid 80's in B'rum-UK..for first time, & live, he was an absolute joy to hear & watch & even started his set, Singing & playing this very song. I had my HB'lad as guest photog, stage front- & got some great shots-he looked same then, as Vid above..+ shiny curly black hair.. A truly Charming & humble guy.My Opinion is based on fact, I had travelled extensively-& was even in Hamburg 'Top Ten' on Reeperbahn, from 1961 onwards -Kaiser Kellar' Grosse Freiheit St, Star Club-.Beatles & all that !! & 1970's a session gtr, on a doz' cruise ships, all over the Med' & the Carribean-constantly in touch with everything on air, so I reckoned I knew all about Gtr players. I think this Vid was about 10 years before I saw him,so 1976-8 ish, I reckon nobody in the world at that time could have sat in on this Dave E..studio session & done a better job.(with the exception of Clarence White 'Buckaroo' )Albert's Top Class Man, in every respect.

I can't stop watching and listening to this. I can remember hearing it on Roger Scott show on Capitol Radio (afternoon housewife's and factory worker's slot) when it was first released in '78 or '79. He must have risked the wrath of God for playing it so many times. Albert's guitar work blew my socks into orbit - still does. So rewarding to see how it was put together and to see Edmunds, Fairweather-Lowe, Phil Lynott and others watch in awe. Thanks gmailvsl (whoever you may be).

I am sorry if I misrepresented, but Lee began his pro work at the end of the 50's with an R & B band. Burton was playing with the Louisiana Hayride at 13 and then from there he ended up in LA as a session guitarist and was hired by Rickey Nelson in the mid 50's with Ozzie and Harriet. By the time Albert was playing with Head Hands, and Feet he was already a blistering guitar player.

Well, let me make myself clear. He was only a god, because he literally played for thousands upon thousands of hours and obviously possessed a natural gift for music.
