Alright kids, you asked to see how to contour your eyes with eyeshadow, and since I've done videos in the past with neutrals I wanted to show you how to do it with color! 🙌🏼 I'm also going to talk about how to combine colors for eyeshadow looks. Hopefully this helps, and please let me know if you want more specific techniques AND/OR palettes! ❤️

TIP: you are having troubles in "weighting" the colors, you can make a black&white photo of them :) When I was doing eyes each with different color stories on each eye, I was basically looking through the Instagram black&wite filter in aim to make the colors weight similar.

I'd absolutely love to see other eyeshadow techniques (like cut creases, smokey eyes and halo eyes) explained like this. I've always used this particular one but I never really knew why, so thank you for this video! I'm glad to know the way I've been doing my eyeshadow gives me the effect I want. I haven't really tried any other techniques so it'd be great to know if an eyeshadow technique has an unflattering (or really just not what I want) effect on my eye shape or if I'm just doing it wrong. I imagine all techniques are applicable to all eyes and it's just a matter of changing a couple of things to suit the eye shape better but yeah

Another way to avoid being confused by colors when checking for values is taking a pic of the palette (of the shadows inside and all lol) and add a basic black and white filter to the pic, it gets much easier. Thanks for another super informative video ♥️

The way I knew this was the Beautopsy palette just from the thumbnail lol. The palette seems to give such a beautiful and dimensional red smokey eye look

You should try to create an eye look using the hardest colors possible to blend like blues, purples, greens, black, etc

I'd love to learn how to do things with purples, blues and greens. Those, mostly purples, make my eyes pop and I love it but I always do the same exact thing because I just don't know what colors to use with them other than black (like smoky eye with purple in it), or white (just blending it up towards the brow bone into a white or cream). I'm the person you described at the beginning that is intimated to branch out into colors so I just stick to neutrals bur I'd love to do more. I have at least 20 big pallets and don't know how to use any of them. Lol

Combine them with orange. Nikkia Joy plays with those colours a lot , so have a look at her youtube channel ☺️

My favorite color combos with purple are the following in order of difficulty : - sunset : yellow (inner corner), orange (middle of the lid), red (outer half) and a warm middle purple (outer corner) - winter fantasy : light periwinkle (browbone), mid toned indigo (crease), dark desaturated purple ( lashline) - aurora borealis : lime bright green (inner corner), dark cool purple (outer corner) - royal contrast : purple smoky eye on the lid (purple all over + dark purple or Black on the outer corner and lashline) and a pop of bright or light gold in the inner corner (dont blend it into the purple tho) There you have some exemples but purple to me is one of the most versatile colors depending on the Saturation and depth. If you are still afraid mix it with some brown to muddy it down to a less bright version to make it more wearable. Good luck makeup friend !

THIS IS GREAT. My favourite eyeshadow colours are corals, oranges, & reds, but I find ONE SMALL SLIP and I look like I'm bleeding lol. So hard to do but I LOVE THOSE COLOURS.

use values!!!! all colors have different values in greyscale. don't matter if it is or isnt pastel, yellow will always be lighter than purple. learn which colors are "lighter" than others, and itll come naturally. there are some videos out there made by digital artist about value and how its important for painting. as an artist, this knowledge is superr useful when i learn stuff about makeup!!

You are such a fantastic educator, thank you. Literally never realized the transition shade should be a few shades darker than skin tone. Mind blown. Just makes it so much easier. I have been using the Nyx ultimate shadow palette in Brights, because I can't afford anything more expensive and it's got lots of colors. If you have any tips for that one I'd love to hear them.

Thank you so much! I just followed this tutorial instead of just watching; and wow - what a difference! My aged hooded eyes looked so lifted for once! I had been using a few little tricks but following step by step has improved my technique or something because they came out so much nicer this time. I think it was the looking down - which does take getting used to though. I will practise some more. I am really appreciating your advice

Yesss, that is something I’ve been experimenting with lately because my round eye shape just does not work with the “snatched” fox eye trend or even winged liner, but I’ve found that a slightly downward eyeliner flick works well
