In this video we do something that literally everyone and their mother have been asking for:
testing 3A body armor against rifle rounds.... but with a twist, the armor is mounted on a dummy to simulated the resistance of a person and placed at 650 yards, so assume a rifle round from a 5.56 caliber rifle from affar, would it go clean throught? what about the greates cartridge ever? (the 6.5 Creedmoor) and if that fails to do the job what about a cartrige used by snipers; the 300 winchester magnum, well today we find out the hard way (hard for the dummy that is) if the Soft bady armor from aitacticalsolutions.com can do the job.
this one was a fun one to produce, so enjoy!
A big thanks to AI Tactical solution for providing the armor for use to shoot, this video would not have been possible without them, while they do sell soft body armor as seen in this video they sell all kinds of body armor and plate carriers as seen in this video also they have the most affordable body armor in Canada!

its good to see stuff like this and not just replica NIJ testing. All those "misses" on the panel just goes to show that if you do wear body armor; bigger is better always, and that even if you have the most super duper ultra tank round defeating space technology chest plate: you will still take shots in virtually every other part of your body.

@Affordable Optics and Rifle Reviews well I've searched KZfaq and found no video testing on their armor at all except the soft armor video. They have the best pricing in Canada but the fear is you get what you pay for. So I'm interested in seeing their lvl IV and 3+ hard plates. Distances should be varied. 50-300 yards?!? I'd leave that one to you. I film on my other account and understand the difficulty and time and energy put into doing such a video so I wouldn't want to ask for too much. But another company to reach out to would maybe be Milbourne Mountian Defence. I've dealt with them on my plate carrier etc and they're just absolutely amazing to do business with. Their plates however are pricy. But I've seen a few tests and pretty amazed so far.

@@frankk1512 depends on the type of "3A" panel as well, I've seen testing of real 3a rated ballistic helmets at 500+ meters and it punches through. So like with everything in life; its more complicated than any one straight answer. What is certain; you should wear whatever body armor you do have access to if you plan on getting into a gunfight, regardless of the threat you're facing. Weird shit happens all the time and rifle rounds have been stopped by the NODs mount on Kevlar helmets, ricochets get stopped by some asshole who wears his DAPS, secondary fragmentation from rounds hitting rocks and concrete get stopped by a pair of eyepro. All of these examples are evidence that even wearing improper body armor can give you higher capability and survivability in a gunfight.

Love the vid. Been waiting for it. It's good to know that some cheap armor that alot of us can afford with hold up in shtf town scenario, yet potentially long range. Within 5-600 yards your looking at potential headshots anyway. Obviously its all a what if scenario wash. But deff good to know. Especially if you got farmland to defend out to a 1000 yards plus. On the flip side. Make good cheap shields around the windows for the initial punch.

My personal recommendation for SHTF would just be two things in regard to armor; choose body armor and gear that you actually can wear all day and transport along with your food and water, and do your best to never even be in the geographical area where a gunfight could take place. Even improper body armor can benefit you in a gunfight; ricochets, extreme angle impacts, fragmentation, and weird fucky shots that like hit your mags and then your vest. All of these things can be stopped or mitigated by 3a body armor even in a rifle fight.

you'll feel a lot of fragmentation in your neck though. i recommend wrapping the shit out of steel plates with duct tape, it works better than anti-spall coatings from the tests that i've seen. and its cheap, it just takes a lot of time to get enough layers wrapped around it.

yeah, everyone discredits steel so hard. Its biggest downside to me is the weight of the plates. People talk about spalling; I've done my research and spall off a naked plate doesn't go much more than 1-2inches into surrounding ballistics gel (depending on MV and gr), it just so happens that ballistics gel isn't the human body and most forensic experts say that piercing 2 inches of ballistics gel is the equivalent of just breaking the skin of most people. Never the less, I run a 2a panel infront of the steel I own just in case. I've also heard the fudd lore about steel somehow imparting more energy into the wearer??? With my limited knowledge of physics I know that cant be true; simply due to the afore mentioned spalling.... if the round is exploding and fragmenting everywhere when it hits the plate, then its safe to say that fragmentation is retaining quite a bit of the initial energy of the projectile. But nothing seems to convince people that the fairy tales some "operator" told them about steel are wrong. Again; biggest downside to steel is weight, which is fucking heavy as shit if you want your plate to stop even close to what ceramic/PE plates stop. Weight is a massive concern, because now you are moving slower, and the slower you can move; the more likely you are to be engaged. Basically I break things down tactically in my mind by thinking about myself vs myself wearing whatever different gear and carrying whatever different gun. I can safely say that the edge is in favor of me with Ceramic/PE plates over steel because I can move faster and not fatigue as quickly, my reaction time will be faster, ill be able to get into better firing positions quicker and shoot more comfortably. Then again; steel is cheap enough that you could buy multiple sets and toss them in your car, closet, a hole in the ground and generally beat the shit out of them without having to worry about replacing a $600 dollar plate.
