Own this bike, fits my 6ft 4 frame perfectly. Definitely not for shorter riders like Alex. Ride to work almost daily, over 1500 miles last month.

After riding again more recently it has grown on me haha, I still don't really care for the stock handlebar setup personally, but that is easy to adjust and/or change! As with anything I have ridden in the 950 series from Yamaha, it is a great bike.

@bbmurray1
@bbmurray1 2 жыл бұрын
@@moronsmorons8913 I am 195 cm and it fits well, legs are in a natural riding position and with a flat seat it is easy to move around after an hour or so riding.

@@moronsmorons8913 I am about 77 Inches or 194-195cm and I find it comfortable. If you ride any long distances I recommend replacing the seat, as I have done on most of my motorcycles. Most seats from the factory are not the best for riding on for more than an hour or two. The handle bars that Alex talks about can be easily switched. Some people complain about vibration in the bars, but bar end weights can easily fix that cheaply.

I liked your honest review. Pros: Beautiful looking bike. Great power train. Cons: Uncomfortable seat. Brakes are better suited for kind of off road, lacking for street riding. 545 pounds....way too heavy for off road. ' Needs a tad bigger fuel tank. Having to fill up before you go empty....fill around 120 miles. The more I looked at the bike, the more I wanted one. Sitting on the bike changed my mind in a hurry. There's a good reason they only made it one year. Barry

at 6'4" 250 with a 32" inseam the SCR is my bike and probably the best choice in the modern retro or standard bike category. While the Ducati and the Triumph are probably better scramblers, they're also smaller bikes with less forgiving seating for a bigger guy. I think people need to look at the SCR and forget the idea of scrambling and think of it as a standard that could be a flat tracker(and proven so) if you want something dirt oriented. Don't get me wrong, you could "Scramble" with this thing but the clearance is something that would need to be addressed pronto as many people on the SCR950 forums have already discovered that frame dents come easy.

Which other bikes did you look at? I have the XSR900. I dont know the engine of the SCR950 at all.
@davec3618
@davec3618 6 жыл бұрын
Gerhard Symons if I’m not mistaken the xsr is a triple, and a powerful one at that. The SCR is going to ride the same as a Yamaha bolt, torquey lowend providing all the fun you could want around town and highway but you’re going to feel weaker past 75 mph. I really wanted the xsr, it’s sexy as hell and quite powerful but my heavy ass always felt like I was bottoming it out, let alone the riding position forced me to ride like a wind sail due to not having a bench to move my butt back. Ive tried the seating on the ducati(too small) and the triumph was doable but the SCR’s are going for about 4K cheaper before fees so the cost to bike ratio is way off. I realize I kinda misrepresented my point, I don’t think he SCR is the best modern retro out there, that probably goes to Kawasaki’s new 900 or the XSR or hell even BMW’s R9T but all of those are either extremely size or wallet prohibitive. Just an FYI I picked up my bike for roughly 5k before taxes and registration with 17 miles on it.... if anyone is interested in the SCR they should go for them now before stock runs out, dealers are pushing them.

Well said, and yes it would definitely be a much better choice if considered in the standard category instead of lumped in with scramblers haha. Very well said!

This helps a lot - looking for my first bike and I love the scrambler look and reviews that say ride height is comfortable, etc. I love cafe racers too, but not sure that would be comfortable for long rides. Anyway, I loved the way the 950 looks and assumed since it's yamaha that it would be awesome.

Arguably, belt-drive systems do not belong in the dirt due to rocks/pebbles getting into the pulleys. Also the fact belt-drive systems have very short wheel travel when they aren't equipped with a tensioner pulley (some people remember the Buell had an idler/tensioner).

Aw, shoosh, Alex...now you've got me looking at Yammies! I will want to see the RE review when you get it, though...so far their bikes are looking good and at a great price point, but some of the reviews have been shaky on fit and finish and reliability. (But you could say that about damn near any bike if you pick it apart enough...)
@AlexSimmons11c
@AlexSimmons11c 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah the final fit and finish on some of the RE bikes has been shaky, but so far any of their bikes that has had any "issue" from the factory they have been willing to take care of in a timely fashion. So yes they have had some past fit and finish issues in quality control, mostly cosmetic, but they have brought on some good Japanese quality control professionals and are getting it under control. I expect the Himalayan to be solid.

Triumph Street scrambler looks smaller. I like Bonneville line of motorcycles more then Yamaha, but with my 190cm hight I think I might look a bit disproportional on it. The SCR950 is less sexy on it's own but I think the whole package (with me on it) will look better then Triumph. I should try both of course before making the conclusion, but looking at photos with tall guys on them I think Yamaha wins.
