I knew Asia wouldn’t disappoint. If you think this was rough, imagine seeing it in the theater in Dolby Stereo back in ‘79. People were passing out, running out, yelling at the screen. It was insane. It’s kind of normal now, but there was nothing like this before 1979. We weren’t ready.

Just in case no one has shared this, the way the director filmed the alien-bursting-out-of-the-chest scene was brilliant. He told the cast to get close, and the first props were set to go off very weakly, with little movement/blood. The second time they went to film it, the cast got closer like he told them, and then the props went off full. Those reactions were real. The cast was freaked out.

To think that this masterpiece was made for 4.2 million or about 20 million in today's dollars. It goes to show that you don't need expensive CGI to create an outstanding film of any genre. Tight directing, eerie music score, and a pace that let's the movie breathe, is all you need.

@@dawb86 Obviously CGI wasn't available in 1979. If they'd made this today, only as a low budget film would they not fill this with the so real looking- it actually looks fake CGI that is almost required now. The chest burster scene is probably one of the greatest scenes in movie history….people were getting sick and running out of the theaters. The actor that played Parker was so traumatized from just filming the scene he actually spent like 2 weeks in his room not wanting to talk to anyone
@PygmalionFaciebat
@PygmalionFaciebat Жыл бұрын
Thats also because the director James Cameron didnt told details about the chest burster-scene. Also the blood-splattering wasnt told to the actors, so a lot of things indeed came by surprise to the actors. The shock and surprise on their faces are real, and the director kept that footage in the movie, so it feels more realistic, and its even more relatable for the audience. Its another reason why we are really suckd into that movie, and are on the edge of our seats the whole time. Its somehow like watching a life stream of good friends going through a horrifying experience and we can do nothing about it.

Jonesy the cat tried to warn them at least twice. When Brett went to get him he was hiding, hissing & scared. Brett didn't even look behind him till it was too late. And when Ripley was safely in the shuttle (or so she thought), ready to leave, Jonesy was growling again. He knew the alien was in there. Whenever there's a cat or dog in a scary movie, they usually try to alert the people...hissing, growling, barking etc. And we silly humans (the characters, at least) ignore them. Just like the characters always split up instead of staying together. Oh, well. If they didn't do those things I guess it wouldn't be much of a scary movie. Less suspense, less hand-wringing & fingernail chewing.👀🤣

Guys - Don't forget to watch Aliens (part 2) after this. Most sequels don't live up to expectations but part 2 is really worth watching. It is non-stop thrills, action and suspense. Your adrenaline will be pumping. Very different than part 1, but in a great way. All the other Alien movies, part 3, 4, alien vs. predator, etc, are entertaining for sure, but NONE match the directing prowess of Ridley Scott and James Cameron. Not even close. If you want to stop after Aliens, that's a good call. The others are good, just not great.

@@lonelyboy1977 How many flops get a sequel, especially one many years later? And a Director's Cut? You make it sound like nobody liked it and nobody cared, when it is referenced quite a bit. IMO, it was not received well because of the odd title, which has almost nothing to do with anything, and the fact that it is like a mix of noir detective and scifi, but without really embracing the noir tropes, nor being a special effects laden action movie. Which is why it is considered a cult movie. I'd say it's a hit, not for box office, but for its impact on the written science fiction that followed.

They made a video game a few years ago called *Alien: Isolation* where you play as Ripley's daughter sent to investigate what happened to her mother and come across a group of the Alien creatures on a space station. The game involves having to hide under desks and in closets and lockers and avoiding vents because the Aliens are hunting you and respond to noise so you have to walk slowly and quietly. It completely messes with you psychologically and is absolutely terrifying. Highly recommend. 😲

@@fredbeard8867 and you would be correct. I couldn't believe the first time it happened to me. The game was terrifying enough with the Oculus because the Alien looks about ten times bigger than it does if you're just playing it while watching on a PC monitor, but I was playing it with headset and mic on when I did a playthrough and did exactly what you described. However, it was me talking loudly to my wife who was in another room. I've manged to get through the game a couple of times now as long as I don't make loud noises. Sorry, bit of a verbose reply, but I look back and find it hilarious now! 😄😄😄

Hey Asia and BJ, my favorite part of the movie is when they are in the lab trying to figure out the face-hugger. Fun fact Sam: The acid blood concept was added on set by the producers and design team. They wanted to add a reason why the Ash couldn't dare take the face-hugger off or outright kill the Alien creature. The molecular acid blood takes the Alien Xenomorph to a whole nother level.

@@planetwatch0000 Once you've seen the third one, you know it has significant plot holes during the beginning of the film. Nonetheless, it is a very well made film. I think that part of the issue with the next Alien movies (3 onward) is that they have to be compared to the first two movies. That is a tough comparison for most sci fi films. Actually, I like A4 a lot. It has some great scenes. The water scene is intense and highly creative. The entire series has great acting.

The look on Asia's face is comedy gold. Ash was a android where as an Android works similar to a robot it's an artificial life but all organ's are man made, the brain is a computer and not artificial flesh. But the company planted Ash there to get the life form and bring is back to the company for study at the expense of the crew. Where as a company can write up a work place death story later to cover there ass. And I forget who picks her up on the next movie but in this time period there's hundreds of companies working in space it happens in the not to distant future. I mean space is the last wild west there is. All it takes is one element or alloy to be discovered that the military can't live without and you'll witness hundreds of company's out there in real life. So high probability (without the alien) of course.

37:00 The signal wasn't to lure anyone _to_ the planet; it was to warn others _away._ If you go back to just after Dallas, Lambert and Kane left the ship and wandered out of communications range, you'll hear Ripley telling Ash that an analysis of the signal they received seemed to indicate that it wasn't a distress call at all but a warning message to warn others to stay away from the planet. Setting up that warning message must have been the last thing the giant alien ship pilot did before one of the creatures burst out of his chest.

I love the setting. A lot of sci-fi up to that point had been of the high-minded type, to put it one way - idealists in pristine ships looking to boldly explore new worlds and such. Alien was the first to my knowledge to have the crew as more working-class types. The Nostromo wasn’t an exploration ship, but a commercial towing vessel - the crew were essentially space truckers hauling a load of ore back to Earth, wanting to drop it off and go about their lives until the next job came up. The Company obviously had other plans…

When my girlfriend and first saw this in the theaters, we were stunned, shocked, and had the sh*t scared out of us. During the next month, we saw this movie 13 times at the theater, and still jumped at every jump-scare scene, even though we knew when they were going to happen. Star Wars, we only saw it 3 times in the theater. As Ridley Scott said, "I wanted to create the TEXAS CHAINSAW MASQUER IN SPACE MOVIE, where everyone was going to be taken out one-at-a-time, with nowhere to hide. I think he got it.
