I finally watch ALIEN (1979) for the FIRST TIME!
Movie Summary:
In deep space, the crew of the commercial starship Nostromo is awakened from their cryo-sleep capsules halfway through their journey home to investigate a distress call from an alien vessel. The terror begins when the crew encounters a nest of eggs inside the alien ship. An organism from inside an egg leaps out and attaches itself to one of the crew, causing him to fall into a coma.

@carlosyoung1984 Mad Max 2 says hold my beer. ... I've said this all over, and I don't intend to troll. I LOVE T2. I'm an immense fan of James Cameron. T2 is fantastic filmmaking. It's about as good as cinematic spectacle gets. As a FILM, T2 is near perfect. But as a sequel, it's seriously flawed.

The original film is the best in both franchises. The 2nd film is overrated in both franchises, and the 3rd film is underrated and is actually the best sequel in both franchises. That's the real ranking.

6:39, the biggest stars in this were probably the British guys John Hurt and Ian Holm. This is Sigourney Weaver's first major breakout role. Ripley was originally written as a man. The producers and Ridley Scott decided to subvert expectations by making the last man standing a woman. Since this is a science fiction that pivots into horror - Ripley is the final girl but in space.

That's right. The black actor Yaphet Kotto was also well known. He was in a lot of TV shows and went on to star in movies like "The Running Man" with Schwarzenegger. He caused quite a commotion in the UK for a number of years because he revealed that he was of nobility and was related to Queen Elizabeth II, in his autobiography. He would talk about it frequently in TV and radio interviews and he was ridiculed for years. It turns out that he was indeed nobility after all. He was telling the truth. Not sure it was ever proven beyond doubt before his passing that he was related to the Queen, although she did have black heritage in her bloodline, through Queen Charlotte. 🇬🇧

Yaphet Kotto had already been in Live and Let Die when Alien was made. One cast member said in an interview I read that they thought the script was terrible and weren't going to do the movie, but gave it another chance when they heard Kotto was on the project. (I think it was Veronica Cartwright, but I don't remember for sure- Sigourney Weaver certainly wasn't in a position to be turning down parts at that time)

A couple of fun factoids; when Alien was first screened to audiences, ushers fainted, people vomited, and some ran screaming from the theater. Now Ridley Scott decided to write the script with minimal details on that specific scene. Literally none of the actors in that movie scene (besides John Hurt), knew what was really going to happen. The script merely said "This thing emerges." The fake chest, used for John Hurt's character, is filled to the brim with fake blood, and real butcher's organs, and the animatronic chestburster. The first take of that scene was a false start of the fake chest. None of the actors know what's going to happen, just a small spurt of blood comes out. The crew preps for a second take, and the actors lean in a bit closer, ready to act surprised. On the second take, with all the actors in the zone, Ridley Scott lets hell break loose, and the alien bursts out of the fake chest with a HUGE spurt of fake blood, that shoots perfectly into Veronica Cartright's face. The reactions that you see in the film during that scene by all of the actors are completely real. The cut of Cartwright screaming, of Kotto and Sigourney's look of pure horror, and Ian Holm's utter surprise are all real reactions to what was taking place. Cartwright literally passed out after it happened. Yaphet Kotto went into another room and refused to speak to anybody. Sigourney Weaver said she forgot she was making a movie.

@@tommc3622 yeah, the director’s cut is the only way to watch Aliens because it adds so much. Not so much with the original Alien film. There are alternate versions, but instead of just adding scenes to the original, it also deletes scenes that were in the original. If you’re a big fan though I guess it’s worth watching both, but in this case the original version is better imo.

My poor boyfriend - I about ripped his arm off! This is my favorite of the movies. Some people don't like the slow burn but what was terrifying about it was you hardly saw the alien and never knew what was coming next. The silent parts were terrifying.

John Hurt ( the guy who died on the table from the chest-butster) is an extraordinary actor! One of his finest performances was as "John ( really Joseph) Carey Merrick" in the movie, loosely based on the true story of "The Elephant Man." He was incredible in that film. I saw it as a child and it stayed with me all my life. It broke my heart at 8 years old and made me love Joseph Carey Merrick and it helped fashion a hatred for injustice and a hatred of people who abuse others! If you've never seen that movie, check it out. You won't recognize John Hurt in it though because of the character's deformity and the make up they used on him. But his acting is unparalleled. And it's an incredible movie about a most beautiful and wonderful person.

Saw it in 1979 in a vintage, single screen movie theater packed to the rafters, including the balcony. Suspenseful as hell with pervasive, escalating dread throughout, like no other film before it, WITH the exception of The Exorcist, which had come out earlier in the '70s. As scary as Alien was, for me it was not as nightmarish as The Exorcist because, after all, one could rationalize that the former was set light years away in some hypothetical future, whereas one could imagine a demon being in your own attic in the here and now. Do watch the oft-derided Prometheus. It's far from perfect, but provides some pre-Alien backstory, has some great visuals, and a spectacular finale.

I suggest checking out Aliens, the 2nd film. I loved the 3rd one personally, but the 2nd film is what skyrocketed Sigourney (pronounces Sig-ur-nee) Weaver into famousness. Well, this and Ghostbusters. But I would love to see your reaction to Aliens, as it's a damned good film & you really see Ripley's (Sigourney's character's full name is Ellen Ripley) character development into a friggin' BADASS. It's this film that set the trope of the badass, individually strong woman who can take control & run this b*tch. There's a scene toward the end that you will cheer at -- most have! Just remember the line "Get away from her" and you'll know where you are. Good video!

A "watch it out of order" movie reactor thinks he will sleep soundly tonight.;) Get on board the "Nostromo," and stay out of dark, confined spaces! 2:12 That happens in the next edition. 4:36 The Company is sending the equivalent of a freighter crew to "do science" on an unexplored planet! 5:45 Back then TV and print ads for "Alien" gave no indication as to what kind of film it was, except for: "In space, no one can hear you scream." The audience in the ex-Cinerama theater were on edge, as tension built way above the breaking point. 8:04 We never find out what kind of weapons the survey crew had. 8:08 Saavy viewers saw Ash's "calisthenics" as suspect. 9:44 The Space Jockey, a mystery for decades. 10:44 The theatrical version of "Alien3" is the Studio Interference Cut; the Assembly Cut makes more sense. 11:11 Second Officer Kane = Zapp Brannigan. 12:00 Oh, you sweet Summer child.;) 12:30 This conversation has become iconic due to recent events. 13:25 You are watching the Special Edition version, with footage not seen in 1979. 14:34 Acid Blood is why you don't "just cut it off him." 17:45 A Props dept. work of ART, made of sea animals. Modern CGI can't match this level of reality. 20:07 Kane's last meal. 20:59 The Xenomorph, scaring audiences for over 40 years. 21:34 Burial at sea, an old maritime tradition that spares the next of kin. 22:53 Along came Jones. 24:14 Say hello to Bolaji Badejo. 27:33 You're in command now, Ripley. 30:06 In 1979, this was my "WTF? Ash ISN'T Human!?" moment. 31:16 Most didn't see this coming. 31:46 I beg to differ. Seeing the Devil in bright sunlight at noon is one thing, finding out that an apparently ordinary crew mate is a nearly unstoppable killer robot is quite another. 32:20 Will your sleep be untroubled tonight? 35:37 That's a Stinger. 36:46 I didn't see Brett and Dallas cocooned in 1979. 37:38 Escape route cut off, stop Destruct to gain time for Plan B. 38:44 Tell you what, sign up with Alterra as the Non-Essential Systems Maintenance Chief on the capital ship "Aurora" to build a Phase Gate near the unexplored tropical ocean planet, 4546B. As "Ryley Robinson." you may get shore leave to observe the unique flora and fauns of the planet. What could go wrong in "Subnautica"? 41:09 Tonight's Entree on the shuttle "Narcissus" is Steamed Xenomorph in Shell. 41:47 Correction, Char-Broiled Xenomorph. For a change of pace, "Galaxy Quest" (1999) will show you a very different Sigourney Weaver.;)

I know younger people are used to CGI and top special effects and so assume the newer movies will be better but these old movies hold up pretty well for their age and they just much better quality movies overall, Better plot, dialogue, direction, sets etc. Even older black & white movies have their charm if you open your mind and enjoy the stories, you may even forget they are in B&W after a while.

Alien 3 is a decent movie but there was a lot of studio interference so if you do watch it, I would suggest watching the Director's Cut, it's a much more thorough movie. Also, The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgement Day are also a must watch, immensely fantastic movies. As a side note, I was born in Jan of 78, I saw this and The Terminator when I was 6 and Aliens when it released and I started watching horror movies with my mom when I was 4, starting with The Fog, Friday the 13th and Halloween followed up shortly by The Exorcist 🤷🏼‍♂️

41:53, in the original script the film had a very different and horrific ending. In the first draft, the Alien dodged Ripley's harpoon attack and got back onto the shuttle. It then ends Ripley in a very gruesome manner. The final shot of the movie would have been the Alien sitting down to make that distress message Ripley sent...but in the voice of Captain Dallas. Some higher up at 20th Century Fox (which had just made a mint on Star Wars 2 years earlier) decided that Alien could be the start of another blockbuster franchise. So they had Ridley Scott and the writers change the script so that Ripley lives. The rest of monster movie history!

37:00 This was a deleted scene, only pushed by the studio in the so-called "director's cut" for the 40th anniversary. Ridley Scott considers the original the director's cut. It's not canon. It doesn't appear anywhere else in any other Alien movie.

I still think that Parker should have lived. He had a good chance but his mistake was trying to save Lambert. At least he was brave in the end. Braver than most would have been. I would have been like “Bye, bitch. Yoink!”

Alien Isolation is excellent It's the sequel to the first movie and a prequel to the second movie (watch the Director's Cut of the second movie, that's what it connects to) Also, at 38:50: I didn't just play it in first person I played it in VR through a mod ;)

They might not have planned a sequel, or hadn't secured funding for another movie, so they just ended it in a way that was final.

Here's the thing about the third one... .... it's not a bad stand-alone movie... ....but it is a a bad *Aliens* movie... The movie itself is pretty cool, but after the first two, there's a story point that's so infuriating to fans of the first movies, that it makes it hard to appreciate the rest of the third movie on its own merits. So then the 4th movie is a total over-the-top cartoon, but after the third one, you can just relax and appreciate it for just how gonzo it is. "Prometheus" is a prequel and an origin-story of sorts, it's a mixed bag, but it has some cool ideas and answers a lot of questions. "Covenant" is the follow-up to Prometheus and it's OK. The Predator movies all take place in the present day or the past, centuries before the events in any of the Aliens movies - including the Alien vs Predator movies, which shows us aliens on Earth in the modern day, and may represent it's own independent timeline.

The third one is pretty decent, but it certainly wasn't as good as the first two, and many people didn't like it's take on some of the previous characters. (Also, Alien Isolation is old, but it's still atmospherically the scariest game ever. It's brutal because the AI is really smart in that game, and even adjusts it's actions as you progress).

As I’m certain has been said upthread, the next film to see in the series is, Aliens, by James Cameron. It, and the original Alien, both stand far apart in quality from all the other Alien films.

Alien is iconic in its influence on sci-fi/horror. Predator, while being a good movie, did not have this same level of impact because Alien was really the first movie of its kind; groundbreaking. Whenever you do comparisons of any type be it movies, music or any type of art, you always have to look at the historical context it resides in and contemplate whether Predator would exist if Alien hadn’t have come first. I will give props to Predator because of originality with it being a trophy hunting race of beings. Now the actual Alien vs Predator movies were just bad and not really worth consideration while watching this great film.

17:37, The design work for the baby Alien, adult alien and the face hugger come from the late Swiss artist H.R. Giger. If you have ever seen his artwork it's seriously disturbing to look at. He melds dark sexual imagery with oddly biomechanics ones.

30:08, it sounds like you said earlier that you have seen Alien Vs Predator. If so then it shouldn't surprise you that the company they work for (i.e. Weyland-Yutani) actually knew about the aliens. From what I understand this movie takes place around 2122. So the leadership of WY has known about these things (and other aliens) for over a hundred years but didn't have the technology to go find it.

So you’re wondering how the face hugger got on his face through his helmet well, Kane was standing too close to the egg when the face hugger burst through the membrane ,,The membrane produced acid which melted through the face plate, allowing the face hugger to crawl through. If Kane wasn’t standing so close to the egg, he might have been OK
