Emilie Gracia if the harvesters are intelligent enough to create intelligence and culture which allows them to survive the death of endless stars (or suns) then it explains exactly why they have zero interest in peace. The original script was much better in the arch of the Aliens. We never really got the slightest indication of why the plot of the first film even happened. I think a darker more intelligent version of the first film would have been amazing, as opposed to a profit based popcorn film. They were just 'aliens' no more no less. If a species with such capability had sent a 'test' suicide mission to check earths' distance from a sun, a species that were simply planning on finding new resources because it had experienced the collapse of solar sysstems multiple times in the past was put on screen, then I think it could've a far better film.

Doubt they would have one, they don't look to be the kind that would want to play with something dangerous like it. Or in the new movies have deranged AI running around doing as they pleased. Xenos are dangerous but most they are because of human on human deception and even out right murdering.

Me: if they're so intelligent and technologically advanced, how come they've never solved their resource problems, or, why even go through the trouble of invading Earth in the first place if they can go anywhere in the galaxy to harvest uninhabited planets? Alex Anthony In order to get the resources they actually need a source, which is why they invaded earth along with many other planets with spinning molten cores. As for why they don’t go elsewhere why not here? The mothership was already nearby anyway and the native people are in constant in-species fighting so they would probably kill themselves anyway. As for the second invasion was started by the presence of the sphere.

It’s simple Darwinian evolution at play, with little to no empathy for other species. It’s fairly obvious that these beings were very likely the first successful interstellar civilization in the Milky Way galaxy. They are probably on the verge of being a Kardashev Type 3 civilization. But most definitely a type 2. Attacking earth and other less technologically advanced civilizations had only one purpose: elimination of competition. The use of resources and planet cores of the destroyed worlds was just a convenience of the extermination process.

When I watched this film in my youth, I was tormented by the question: what can the protective screen of alien ships represent in terms of physics? Then in a science fiction book I read about the so-called gluon generator: this technology could well provide such an effect.

I love both movies. Of course the first one because i remember going to blockbuster when it came out to rent it but the second is my favorite. It delves in deeper to the mystery of the aliens. Seeing the ecosystems in the mother ship was awesome. And us living in world peace using their technology

Robert Woods I think they’re four castes of these aliens, Workers: the most common type of aliens, and can be used for construction, intelligence, nursery and piloting ships. Soldiers: these aliens are larger than worker aliens, but also used to protect the hive or for scouting and infiltration. Drones: we haven’t seen them in these movies, but I believe drones which are half the size of their queen is a male type of alien that protects the queen, and mates new ones before one of them dies. Queens: queens are the largest and most intelligent caste system in the hive. She uses her telepathy to control her brood, and nearby ships. Once the queen dies or gets killed in action, the rest of her brood dies with her, the technology will loose power, and her ship will leave to find a new queen.

Mike Stark that is the only explanation, and through their psychic powers; because without hands they would not even be able to create fire. Now, developing experiences by "third-person" is difficult to imagine, and until having their suits (with hands) they must be totally dependent on that species. Even the idea of parasitizing and absorbing other's knowledge leave gaps, how would they understand what they have not experienced by their own hand?

Yeah, an alien species that harvests every natural resource and the planet core is definitely a really dangerous species, hence the formation of the Resistance against the Harvesters. If there's going to be a third movie, humanity would practically be the tip of the spear to the resistance and hunt down the Harvester Queens.

I really hope they (prosuction) do a 3rd part...this would be great...earth heading to their planet to cause problems...also would like to see earth attack the predator planet and to explain the one where they took criminals/mercenaries to a planet to be hunted by predators (Lawrence Fishburne-story line)...so many sci-fi

i really like the alien harvesters. from their design to their nature. in the first movie....the second...not so much. i think the harvesters had the potential to be one of sci fi's greatest alien races but the sequel just totally buried them. in the original we basically know them as being far more advanced than humans, incredibly relentless and unyielding. what made them interesting to me was that they are kind of ultimately evil, as they are completely resolute in their intentions to simply destroy earth, but clearly intelligent enough to communicate with humans but have absolutely no shred of morality. they simply see humans in the same way humans see a lesser species like termites. completely disposable. what ruined them for me in the second film was the hive mind "alien queen " garbage. i just think it was thrown in their as a plot device. their was absolutely no mention of anything such in the original film and all it does is turn the harvesters into a hive mind drone race which has been done many times in the past and has kinda become a trope. i just feel there was so much more potential. personally i think in ID2 they should have stuck to the virus theme of the original (being a nod to war of the worlds) but instead of a digital virus this time it should of been a biological virus, maybe pumped into the motherships air supply of water supply or something. would of been far simpler.

Came here to say exactly that. The aliens were properly interesting and scary in the first movie. The queen nonsense was cheap and only made the aliens stupid. All those fighters crashing after the queen dies turned the aliens from some intimidating extraterrestrial species to a Hollywood joke of a plot device. I thought everything else was pretty cool about the sequel, though. About everything in it was what I was expecting it to be, except for the dumb queen alien weak writing trope.

Aliens that are well known but we don't know their names/nick names as well. They Live: Fascinators/"(Bug-Eyed, Death's Head) Ghouls" V: Visitors/"Serpents""lizards" Childhood's End: Overlords/Overlanders/"Devils/Demons (of the overmind)" ID4: Harvester/"Locust" (Harvester might be preferred, since Locust is also taken from Gears of War).

They are my number one favourite. They look awesome with and without the bio mechanical suit. Their design is my most favourite. I just love everything about them. So much so I wanna be one. A day as a harvester.

A lot of information they give us in these movies about aliens is true I believe. From what we understand a lot of different entities and species can communicate telepathically. They can also communicate telepathically with us there's been quite a few recorded incidents in history. Where individuals claim to have been spoken to telepathically.

If you take the jaw off the beserker predator bio mask it looks very similar to this Harvester Alien. Coincidence?? Maybe the bio masks in predator are based from other aliens. Defo try and look at the Beserker Bio mask without the Jaw.

The creatures themselves are designed unimaginatively. Harvesters, Xenomorphs, and Predators are all based on the humanoid body plan, as though humanlike intelligence arises only in humanoid organisms. Star Trek openly embraced this absurdity as canon, while ID4 made an effort to subvert it by using puppets rather than actors to portray the Harvesters. Their design aims for uncanny valley grotesqueness--- humanoid enough to express a sense of evil intent, but distorted enough to seem alien and unsettling. They could have gone the Starship Troopers route of using believable nonhumanoid body plans, but Harvesters were based on classic "gray alien" mythology, even incorporating the Roswell Incident, so it made sense to trade believability for familiarity.

No, harvestor queens when destroyed must rely on some other protocol when defeated. Even if one hasn’t been destroyed until now, the aliens didn’t become advanced by being stupid. As all films they will be revealed as having some form male champion, king, assassin etc.

Compared to other franchises I think the xenomorphs from the Aliens movies are more deadly and destructive to a planet. I would also be more confident in a gun fight against a Independence Day alien than I would against a Predator alien.

It's hard to say what alien species is the most dangerous as there's so many factors to take into account. Look at the Predators or Xenomorph for instance. Both are extremely dangerous in their own rights. Or any of the thousands that are in movies, books, comics and whatever else you can think of. They are all deadly and highly dangerous in their own ways, but yes the "Harvesters" in the ID movies are in the top five for me. They have two qualities that could even pot them at the top as most dangerous. The first and main thing in they are highly advanced technology wise and the second thing is they are a hive like Alien where they are almost always in large groups in the thousands. They are one of only a handful of aliens that work this way, most seem to work alone or in small groups and are therefore a lot less effective for a mass scale attack or invasion. I can only think of a handful of aliens that attack in large groups, Martians from When Mars Attacks and War of the Worlds, Xenomorphs from the Alien franchise, The Bugs from Starship Troopers, the Yuuzhan Vong from the real Star Wars books (not the Disney trash that has been Forced on us), the Harvesters from Battle Ship, and really that's all I can think of at the moment. Just about all others work in small groups or totally alone and for this they are not equipped for a full out invasion but better suited for hit and run/scare tactics. So in the end it all comes down to... do you break them up into categories of Hive/Invasion force comprising of no less then 10k units in the force, Scout/Clan force comprising no more then 20 units in the force, and OOPS troops the single or pair of aliens that crash into earth cause a bunch of havoc. Then you have to break these groups into more groups, technology advanced, about the same as humans, little to no technology. See it becomes hard to determine what alien species is the most dangerous, at least for me.

Serously they just got their asses kicked be present day earth with a bit of futuristic technology so now your going to pit them against the most brutal grim dark powerfull humanity their is, it would go like this The impirial navy assembles a fleet then decimates their entire alien fleet with 40k devistating ship weaponry or The space marines turn up teleport terminaters aboard their ship and kill everything! including the queen

40K Ain't pulling no punches it isn't a portrayal of humans with advanced tech and relying on it win every battle it is a portrayer of humans winning by sheer grit and will power against even more warlike/ advanced, dangerous foe's. I mean this a universe with actual demons! they aint afraid of some heavy tech reliant alians
