How I mount the All American Sharpener model 5005 in a vise. A very heavy duty unit built with quality throughout.

N O T E: I would like to state why I added the aluminum angle piece for using in a vise instead of the stainless steel part from All American Sharpener. Should have mentioned it in the video. I did not want to damage the SS part with the vise jaws. But more importantly I wanted a "softer" material that the jaws would "bite" into for a better hold. And having the longer length of the aluminum angle in the vise gave better stability as you can see in my video.

FYI: I use a rockler jaw horse to hold the original mount vertically. The jaw horse has rubber pads in the clamp area and won't damage the all American mount.

**Not to discredit the fine work done on this accessory, but we are getting a lot of questions about mounting the unit(s) in a vise. We want to make it clear that you can mount it in a vise using the mounting bracket that comes with the unit(s). To do this, you turn the bracket around so the bottom section that you will put in the vise will be pointing vertically downward. Because the bracket is angled at 45 degrees, the section that you attach the unit to will still be at the same angle. Hope this helps!** [Original comment] Thanks for the thorough review of all the features of our 5005! We are glad you like it, and we really appreciate your business and support. Nice work on your end as well. We hope it gives you years of sharp mower blades.

This is not a cheap piece of junk. It is very well thought out, the man does an amazing job on these. I just received the Model 5005 about a week ago. This blade sharpening jig is worth every penny! Although I sharpen just 3 blades a week, This would be a great addition to any size operation.

Hi Ken. You can actually turn the mounting bracket around and mount it vertically in a vise. Not to discredit the work done on this extra piece, but we designed this functionality into the unit, so you can mount it in a vise using only the included mounting bracket. Thank you for your interest!

@@AllAmericanSharpener I would buy one from you if you made them. I like the wider 6" bite that the vise jaws would grip into. Plus it would act like an auto-leveler with the head of the vise. Thank you - love my sharpener!!!

I purchased their model 5000 that goes between 30•&15• Can’t say enough about how well it works for my Toro and Craftsman mowers. Honestly it’s probably the best option on the market for homeowners like myself and probably the pros as well.

I mounted my 5005 to a 24" long 2X4 about four inches from one end so that I could clamp it into my Black & Decker Workmate table and use it outside (keeps my shop cleaner) and also clamp in a vise. The B&D Workmate option allows me to take the whole thing when I go into the field.

Thank You so much for those kind words Gordon. But I really do not want to get into supplying these as I am busy with other things. It's just a piece of angle with two [2] holes drilled in it. Would you know someone that can do this for you locally?

I simply watched the youtube video of All American's description stating how the bracket that comes with the tool mount already can simply be turned the other way in the vise. I appreciate your effort and please don't take this the wrong way, but you are reinventing the wheel sorry to say. There is no need to do what you are doing. Its redundant. If you are worried about marring the bracket in a vise...small pieces of wood stock or paint sticks would do that very easily and would hold way more than needed to hold his into place in a vise.
@starastronomer
@starastronomer 4 жыл бұрын
Brian Webb We all do things differently don't we? More than one way to attack a job. I prefer to be very precise in everything I do. WHY would I want to put extra wood in place to not mar the SS surfaces? That is an extra process required that I don't want to do. By using the aluminum angle as I did it gets a better "bite" in the vise as it is a "softer" material. Also, it stays attached so it is a "one step" process from the case to the vise. No "reinventing" the wheel here. Just making it better for me in the way I like. BUT, if I was going to reinvent the wheel...............

I don't know how stainless steel reacts to aluminum, but if I were making that type of mount, I'd use either anodized aluminum or stainless steel. I know many types of steel don't play well with aluminum.
