Its all that and then some. Super easy to set up and adjust. Bought the 5005 for the adjustability and am considering starting a side business sharpening blades for people.

It is June 2021 now and I have to ask how you like your 5005 now? Good or Bad I would love to know because I have been sharpening my blades by hand for 45 years and I need to find a better way. I hope to read your review.

Hi Kurt. Absolutely. Some John Deere blades have the most extreme angle variations we've seen. A lot of John Deere customers have said they need to set the 45 degree angle on their 5005 to get the factory (30 degree) edge. We're glad you got the 5005 too. It will serve you well once you figure out which angles are best for your blades.

I also have John Deere blades . The new blades from JD are at thirty degrees , however because of their curvature it is hard to use the sharpener as stated . I finally used a spacer on right side of blade too shift it farther to left . Once I had the spacer figure out , it works perfectly . Of course you also have to shift your grinder as far right as it will go.

A good starting point is a 36 or 40 grit flap disc. Some people prefer something that removes less, and some people prefer something that removes more material per swipe. But a 36 or 40 grit flap disc does the job without gouging over easily overheating the metal.

Yes, many Toro blades need the 35, or even sometimes the 40, degree angle to match the factory bevel. If you do not have the Model 5005, you may still be able to get the angle needed by shimming the right side of the blade. Based on customer feedback from other Gravely owners, you will likely need the 35 or 40 degree setting to match the factory bevel on those blades.
