How to Mount Your All American Sharpener

We've designed our mounting bracket in a way that gives you options. You can attach it to horizontal and vertical surfaces, including placing it in a bench vise. This video will demonstrate some of the many mounting possibilities.

I just received my 5005 Gen 2 model today and I can’t say enough incredible things about this phenomenal piece of engineering! You have outdone the competition in regards to sharpening mower blades by leaps and bounds! This unit has made blade maintenance for mowers a non tedious endeavor that most usually hate to do but not with this! This task is now actually enjoyable considering how the 5005 Gen 2 consistently and effortlessly produces precise edges from this supremely superior tool that is a much needed addition to any one that cares for precision lawn care. What is also amazing is that regardless of being a typical home DIY enthusiast or a hardcore lawn professional this lawn essential works with such ease and exactness that these results can be produced with confidence no matter the operator! I would just like to thank you at All American not only for making such a well built platform from nothin but quality materials that will no doubt last a lifetime but also that you make it here in our beautiful nation which means more then you can even know!! FYI (it is the next day) wow oh wow the sharpener worked great! I mounted it to a foldable saw horse with lag bolts (double 2x4s are on top of it) and I watched all the videos the night before...then I centered it, found the angle, balanced it...cut like a dream! Thank you!!!

I don't care how you mount then. Buy one. Buy one if you run a fleet of mowers or if you have one mower. They are amazing. Simple, full proof and male a better than factory edge. I have a John Deere 997R with a 72 inch mower, (big blades) and we mow a lot of rocks on our farm. This thing, combined with a M18 grinder had a factory edge back on them in minutes the first time I used it.

Mount mine to a “Jaw Horse” in the same manner you did to a bench vise. Allows portability.

I mount mine on a portable table with a "C" clamp and put it outside to eliminate all those metal grindings all over the floor to clean up. Just my 2 cents worth!

I have a Bostitch grinder, BTE820K, that mounts its support arm approximately 60 degrees relative to the head of the grinder as opposed to 90 degrees as is the case on many other makes, like the one you used for your demonstrations. How do I compensate for this difference, other than just replacing the grinder?

The adapter pin will attach into the handle threads regardless of the angle of the handle. The important thing is to align the center of your flap disk (we recommend a T27 or T29, 36,40 or 60 grit) to the bevel of the blade. The jig will hold the angle that you set for your particular blade. I hope that helps, and best of luck as you get started with your sharpener!

what size bolts do i need to mount it to my counter. I just got my sharpener but it didnt come with anything to mount it to a surface

The holes in the mounting bracket are 3/8" diameter and 1" apart on the centers. (The hole is made to fit a 3/8" bolt.) We don't provide those bolts because it will vary depending on how you choose to mount your sharpener. We realize there are a lot of words on our website, but we do state on the sharpener page that those aren't included. "One 45 Degree Bench Mount (2 machine screws to attach sharpener to mount are included). You will need to provide your own screws to mount the bracket to your mounting surface.)*" Sorry for any misunderstanding. That gator blade looks like my John deer 7 star set up ..what degree should this be sharpened at?

Sorry we didn't see your comment earlier. You will likely need the 35 or 40 degree setting for a Gator blade. The OEM John Deere blades will likely need the 45 degree setting due to the significant tilt forward in the cutting section.

Maybe I missed it but what size bolts/lag screws would I need to mount it to a 2x4 or front of a bench?

No problem. The bracket is 1/4" thick stainless steel, and the holes are 3/8" diameter.

Is there a set distance from the edge of the workbench to mount it?

As a starting point, a distance of about 8" from the screw/bolt holes on the base of the mounting bracket to the front of your workbench should give you a comfortable work reach, as well as keeping the mounted jig from sticking out from your bench. I would recommend placing your jig at that starting point (perhaps even with a blade mounted in it), and then move it forward and back from there until you arrive at something that feels right to you.
