Hopefully a Scramble DLC lets us play as Maruki as he and Kasumi is forced to fight people who use the Jail King's situation for selfish reasons. I actually brainstormed ideas for what kind of Shido tier scumbags would exist as current threats to the Jail Kings who uses their formerly wretched situation to enrich themselves. Alice's target was a typical fat otaku who has control over her fanclub and gets away with disgusting shit involving her, Ango's target would be an editor who act like a self righteous social justice scumbag who believes Ango only succeeds because he panders and plans to ruin him, Mariko's target would be a butcher and food supplier for Okumura who sells tainted meat and abuses his workers for pure profit and helped store dead bodies the yakuza had hidden, Akane's target is the daughter of a Conspiracy member who is an Akechi fangirl and believes justice always win and anyone who backs the Phantom thieves should be subjected to maximum suffering and Akira's target would be a Thanos/Obadiah Stane style parody who wants to use EMMA to enslave the masses to believing that they want to be abused by the politicans.

It's been more of a month and there's still just two pieces of DLC (being only battle music) which is surprising because Koei Tecmo are notorious for their insane DLC practices... but then again, P5S is shorter than KH2...

I am just wondering how on earth his Persona contacted him in the REAL World.

@@l30ng62 given his persona refers to itself as "that who manifests thought itself" its probably a safe assumption that this being is on diety levels of power, so it probably can just appear as a voice in someone's head

I think a lot of it has to do with what their desires were at that point. The party awakened to their personae to stand up against their oppressors, which were usually a single person (the palace's ruler, or in Sumire's case her memories of Kasumi). Maruki felt oppressed by entire world and wanted to change it, and gained a persona with the appropriate power.

I kind of shudder the thought of Mitsuru and Naoto possibly knowing this in future P5 gen titles after Phantom Strikers. Both are enough to "execute" the entire Tokyo police force and Conspiracy since they had predicted the worst outcomes in Arena. Also they aren't pushovers when to comes to the reasons behind Persona users having to battle, as the Dark Hour battle resulted in the deaths of 2 of their comrades. Aigis is the most devastated after her partner Makoto's death on her arms in the promised day. Plus Atlus is the type whom refers back to the past titles and never make the new canon useless, as seen that the Jails have the same function as Maruki's Palace and Dark Hour. Even the Jail Kings kind of have the same circumstances as Maruki, Sae and Futaba despite the presentation difference; consumed by revenge to the point of never being able to overcome their shortcomings, using it to justify their cruel actions. Also the final jail reminded Mona of Maruki's Eden, but purposely made faint and it appears that Ren, Mona and possibly Akechi still retained clear memories of the distorted reality. They even take a creative idea of the mastermind and antagonist, a nice change of pace from the past neo Persona series (3 onwards) titles. Both masterminds of the true final arcs are cognition researchers, though their methods and goals are different, but outcomes are the same. Atlus also consider Akechi max justice and promise in Royal canon, kind of akin to Aigis' growth and social link in FES, sodified in the Answer. Both even made their innermost realizations near endgame. Even the new girl playable characters have similar situations and awakenings, plus both have the theological vitrues of the visconti deck as their Arcana. Knowing Atlus not wanting to leave anyone out as seen with Arena Ultimax, at best the Royal characters/developments appear in next game after Phantom Strikers. Considering the character and Arcana pattern, not surprised if the next canon timeline game have another girl character with Charity as her Arcana and another male adult Persona user with an Arcana outside the standard deck.

In P4 Arena, Naoto was appointed by Public Safety officials to investigate Mitsuru's Shadow Operatives and bring back any evidence of wrongdoing. Naturally, Naoto found no physical evidence of such, disappointing the officials. My guess is that they were looking for a viable excuse to seize the Kirijo Group's Shadow research and equipment for their own use. Whether the officials were simply jealous or part of what would later become the Conspiracy is anyone's guess.

@@rogerleung160 Its possible. Perhaps the next sequel after Phantom Strikers the Tokyo Police will get their desserts of their pride, likely a cognition researcher targets them using shadows. It was taken into consideration both Mitsuru and Naoto knows better, perhaps saves the police force from the invading shadows summoned by the new human enemy. They then asks them which opinion they want to choose in a serious but scary manner.

This actually make sense that Wakaba was assasinated by Conspiracy not only as cover up, but also prevent other researcher like Maruki to control congitive world opposite to their directions.

I forgot that the whole conspiracy gets taken down thanks to Shido’s testimony and Sae’s prosecution. This comment was a happy reminder.

Yeah that's one of the big mysteries I have post-game, whether or not all of Maruki's actualizations disappeared or not.

Sumire herself states during her third awakening that she's honestly glad Maruki changed her cognition, because it allowed her to see that all she needed to do in order to become as good as Kasumi was change her mindset. And through that, she grew as a person and became stronger as a result.

@@psl6145 that didn't mean it wasn't bad. Its like saying "i'm glad i lost my mother, it taught me the value of life!" It doesnt stop it from being a negative experience. I also hate how he encouraged her wanting to be someone else. A real therapist should make the patient with their insecurities, not prove their insecurities are right. Maruki's way of being a therapist sickens me.

Not really. If Shiho gone to him while she was being abused by Kamoshida, I doubt she would have jumped off the building. Sumire's self-esteem was basically non-existent and the guilt from being indirectly responsible for her sister's death was making her suicidal. Honestly, Maruki's treatment was the best possible method retaining some semblance of mental stability before she became strong enough to confront the truth or had good enough people alongside her to help her deal with the truth, like Joker. The only problem is that Maruki eventually wanted to turn his temporary solution into a permanent one.

@@Birthday888 That doesn't stop it from being wrong. It wasnt the "best' treatment, it was the laziest. If you want to heal someone, do your best to boost their self esteem, give them support lines, tell them that being yourself is what's best to do. Also, imagine having low self esteem, and being told to just be someone else. Under normal circumstances, she would have an even lower self esteem. Maruki would have killed sumire if you went on with the fake reality.

@@Kingdom850 Pretty much. What Maruki did was something gray. Yes, what he did was bad, but in the end he did it not out of malice but because he thought that was the only way to save her. And it did help in the end as Sumire met Joker and his friends, and Joker helped her the rest of the way. Maruki's not evil, but he's still messed up in the head which is why they need to change his heart because it's clear that he went off the deep end in his pursuit to help people. All because of the sorrow in his heart from losing Rumi, Shido destroying his career, and then Yaldabaoth making his Persona crazy. Maruki's a victim of bad luck and hates seeing people in pain because of his own. He's a tragic figure to be honest.

It’s a major ethical quandary. Brainwashing the sadness out of somebody robs them of their free will and capacity to grow, but people with extremely pronounced trauma may not care.

I doubt he had the necessary tools to do that. The only reason cognitive psience became useful to him was because of Akechi. The moment Akechi disappeared, he became more or less powerless against the PT. And plus, Akechi could only induce psychotic breakdowns and not change cognition.

It's more likely that Shido didn't want the public to know about Maruki's research and used his influence to ruin Maruki's career. After all, his paper was really well responded to when he first presented it.

@@Birthday888 Remember that Wakaba most likely got murdered around the same time, since Shido was involved (Meaning that Yaldabaoth was obviously behind it.) Yaldabaoth still uses similar logic as Maruki, the Scramble Jails or Cognitive Psience in General, he's just twisting it to perverse degrees. So it's more of a Yaldabaoth thing than the pillaging of Cognitive Psience being organic. Yaldabaoth probably knew whoever behind it might threaten him and so he took the first step to make sure only he can save the world.

Sometimes when shit hits the fan sometimes the best why to help yourself is to think of how others would do things and put yourself in their shoes. Like for example when Miles Edgeworth from Ace Attorney had to play defense attorney in the third game, he was never an defense attorney at any point in time in his entire life so having to be one is like being in completely different shoes. So when he was cornered he had to think "What would Phoenix do?". In other words sometimes it's fine to put yourself into somebody else's shoes so that way you know what they go through in their living, and use it as motivation in life. Was what Maruki did was an extreme? Yes. Yes it was. But that mindset of sometimes living in other people's shoes is sound in logic. Just saying. EDIT: Also, reassuring people won't save everybody. Sometimes the person could see the reassurance as nothing more then taking pity on them and calling them wonderful won't help them in life. It's really hard to treat depression as it's more then just sadness, but hatred toward yourself and words aren't always enough to save somebody from it. Like I said; Maruki's actions were extreme, but in the end it saved Sumire, and her life became better afterwards; Both from the brainwashing and after she realize the truth.

@@SapphireSword-pd1ix if she had gone to a therapist(possibly to multiple), i doubt she saw it as pitying, and i understand that thinking about what someone else would think is beneficial, but literaly fucking telling someone to be someone else is a biiit extreme. (even if he did brainwash her to not remember who she was). My memory might be fuzzy, but i thought he was using his power subconsciously till he awakened, so wouldn't that mean he literaly told a girl with rock bottom self esteem to be someone else, not being sure/expecting his power would work or not. Im not sure if im remembering it correctly, so take it with a grain of salt.

+Brandon de Leon His Palace and Persona manifested at the exact same time, due to them both having the same source: his desire to make everyone happy. That’s why he personally oversees his own Palace, because his Shadow Self became Azathoth.

@@gavo7911 I swear that in vanilla p5 Igor mentions that the only reason the phantom thieves developed personas was because they interacted with joker and gained the ability to have a persona, and thus anyone who interacts with a persona user can awaken a persona.... Originating only from the wildcards akechi and joker.

+Yami Mayonnaise Nope, just about anyone can get a Persona. In P3 almost half the cast has a Persona before the protagonist.

Shido...the humber one bully in Persona 5. It is going to take up until the last P5 (including spinoffs and all) game to clean all the messes he had left.

"Kasumi" doesn't have two personalities. The real Kasumi sacrificed herself to save Sumire the current "Kasumi" we have. During a session with Maruki he used his ability unaware that he made Sumire believe she was Kasumi.
